“Perfectly adequate, not luxury”
Reviewed 31 August 2010

Good sizeed rooms, good position, helpful booking arrangements
A few relatively inexpensive additions would make a great difference:-e.g.
A door mat to save dirty footmarks
hooks in hall for outdoor clothes
a plug for the bath
a soap container for bath/shower
a hook behind bathroom door for clothes
a toilet brush
bedside lamps on both sides of double beds
standard or reading light in living room (light very poor for reading in this room)
Up-to-date information in welcome pack-the local shop is shut & pub more than 2mins walk.
4 chairs on balcony for flat for 6 people
cutlery very mimimal-need 6 knives & 6 wine glasses
Reception should be open more especially on Saturday-arrival day-however the staff were very helpful and friendly when they were present

We arrived at westfield lodges and apartments and first impressions are it is lovely. In beautiful surroundings and peaceful. We then went to our lodge. All I can say was we either had the attitude of it could ruin our holiday or we just got on with it and would enjoy our hols but not stay in our lodge much. It was quite dirty, not cleaned very well. We too like previous reviewer had to wash our cutlery and plates. There was no teapot at all, so we purchased one. Theshower only went half way up the bath so you either had to kneel down to shower or hold shower and lay it on bath floor while soaping. No shower curtain so beware as it sprays everywhere. The bath is okay if you run the tap on half power to get it hot, so takes a while ( not ideal for a family). no hooks on walls for hanging coats or towels etc. The pool is quite good but don`t shower there, as a lady pointed out to me, the shower isn`t screwed in and falls off the wall into cubicle and also curtain doesn`t go round plus it is hard sharp shower so no good for kids unless you want tears. No television reception only channels 1 and 3 and sometimes you could hardly see a picture. If you did get a picture not much sound just a lot of buzzing. We were promised an ariel which never arrived. Gave up asking. The wifi hardly worked either. The website and brochure advertises washers and dryers. Don`t be fooled. Only one washer working and not commercial washers only household appliances. Washers advertised as £1.00 per wash but this only lasts half a wash so you need £2.00 to do a load. It also states you need credit to open the door so if you are late back to laundry room it will cost another £1.00 to get washing out. Luckily I have a miele at home and know this is rubbish so anyone going just use a key and pull the little door at bottom open and pull the orange lever this is an emergency door button. NO MONEY NEEDED. There is only one dryer and it costs £2.00 per half load but the machine is set on cool it never seems to dry. One lady I met in the laundry room so so angry she had spent £12.00 one one load of washing getting it washed and dried, totally unacceptable for a park of that size. Most sites these days have proper laundrettes that are capable of doing a wash in a clean and tidy atmosphere. We used to go to Ryde after one go at this laundry room and get it done properly. Most people I met were unimpressed with the laundry facilities, no drying facilities for towels and swimming things ( lines, rotary lines etc. Even a couple around the site would help) I had a family in the lodge next to us who felt like us. We would def go back to that part of the island but never again to this site. Really poor accomodation.

We stayed on a 3-night break from Saturday night - coinciding with great warm Spring weather. The pictures on the website do not do the apartments justice - we were so surprised by the "finish" of the building - and the level of decor/equipment. The accomodation is "dog friendly" - and a supplement is payable £35 per dog per week. (Although the cheerful manager Toby only charged us for one dog). Everything is clean and fresh - although I would expect this, since it is a new-build. The living area is open plan and VERY spacious - so if you have young family - there is plenty of room for them to run/roll around. The kitchen was VERY well equipped - with a lot of thought gone in to what you might need. Full range of cooking equipment / utensils - even a garlic press and zester for citrus fruit! There was a very welcoming basket of Twinings teas / coffee / sugar - which we hadn't expected. The welcome pack is very informative. Surprised to have our own washer / dryer in the apartment - which was great.

We had a first floor apartment (although we had asked for a ground floor because of the dogs). The apartment buildings are three floors - and kind of build into the cliff top. The bottom two levels have little / no view - beyond the grassy bank of earth. I imagine the top floor has a reasonable view over the cliff and of the sea (although restricted).

Because you look out onto the steep grassy mound ahead - we found that children from neighbouring units took great fun in running past - up/down the bank - looking into your patio window - and shooting their water pistols at the windows (and dogs behind).

The lodges look like they were there way before - and look a little tired - like a caravan holiday.

I would definitely recommend the apartment over the lodges (which are dotted down the driveway in). The lodges come with the benefit of your "own space" - so you won't hear the noise of the person in the apartment above/below.

The actual location of the complex is off the beaten track - and a good twenty five minute walk to any amenities - since the Bonchurch post office has closed down.

We liked it for this reason - it was not near the tourist haunts of Ventnor - and you really did feel like you were "getting away from it all."

We would definitely stay again - but would avoid the main school holidays - simply because we don't have kids- and imagine that the place will be overrun with them in the height of season. We liked the fact that the whole complex was only about a quarter full.

Should mention the great pool, and sauna - a definite bonus - all adding to what felt like a far more expensive standard of accomodation than we had paid for. 3/4***

Will definitely go back.

We wanted to tell you that we had a fantastic weeks holiday with you guys, the apartments were absolutely beautiful, completely stunning. Our parents also had a great time, they were mesmerised when they saw the rooms.

Our son and daughter had a great time in the swimming pool.

The whole holiday was great and I would like to thank you for that.

We will definately book again with you and have already recommended you to many of our family and friends.

Clean, new spacious apartments overlooking the sea. We stayed over Easter with 2 children aged 2yrs and 4years and a Grandmother. We had a 3 bedroom apartment which was very well furnished with every gadget you could think of. There is a laundry room which is available in a separate building. The apartment had a small balcony overlooking the sea. We were situated above the swimming pool which of decent size and was very warm and perfect for small children. The manager there is very helpful and the staff extremely efficient. There are designated car spaces per apartment.. The grounds have a tennis court and gardens for small children to run around and play in. The apartments are located on the cliff edge in Bonchurch, a short 15minute walk into Ventnor along the coastal path. There isn't a beach at Bonchurch but Ventnor is the closest beach around a 5 minute drive away. The nearest supermarket is in Ventor but the major supermarkets do online deliveries as well. I have always found in the past its been tricky to find a decent, non shabby place on the Isle of Wight to stay but this is a great location and a perfect retreat for a week away with small children at a very reasonable rate.

Really lovely, modern apartment with all amenities. Large balcony, facing the sea (although we weren't high enough to see the sea). Used the pool twice and really enjoyed. Had it all to ourselves on both occasions.
Good cooking facilities, all you could need.
Good standard of decor.
Very warm (as this was a winter stay)
A lift for getting up and down with luggage.
A marked parking bay specific to the apartment.
Ventnor itself very nice. Enjoyed a good family lunch at the Spyglass, which I'd recommend.
had a good family holiday here and used as a base to explore the whole island. Couldn't fault it.

In contrast to the previous review of the lodges, our stay in one of the Westfield apartments was excellent.

On arrival we were met and personally greeted, before being shown to our apartment which was on the top floor overlooking the green lawns and the sea. We are a family of four, [two young children] and we elected to stay in a one bedroom apartment, using the sofa bed in the living area. The whole apartment was spotless, with everything you could possibly need from ample clean crockery, cutlery, microwave, kettle, toaster, oven with hob, - even a washing machine! The TV was great and a DVD player was also provided. I cannot fault in any way the apartment for its cleanliness, or its facilities.

The swimming pool at the Westfield apartments is also fantastic; clean and warm it was a pleasure to use. Although we went in late August - still in school holiday time the pool was very quiet most days and evenings. My kids loved it and we went every day, one day we were in it for five hours!! There was also a sauna located within the pool complex which we did not use but saw others using and enjoying. Many of the other guests also had young children [school holidays] but the grounds and adjoining apartments were quiet during the evenings and night times.

The location of the Westfield apartments and lodges is quite isolated and very hilly, not a problem for us, and being isolated made it more enjoyable. There is a nice 20 minute walk along a flat coastal [paved] path to Ventnor from the small beach near the apartments; and driving to Ventnor only takes five minutes.

In summary; excellent apartment, well run & managed, beautiful location.

Would I go to the Westfield apartments again - definitely!
