“Disappointing”
Reviewed 10 March 2013

This hotel is in a brilliant location and has fantastic views. The building could be stunning.
On arrival and throughout our two night stay the owner was informative and nice enough. Our small double room had a small double bed with a very worn duvet cover which didn't do up at the bottom which the very worn duvet hung out of. The mattress had an uncomfortable plastic protective covering on. The house is tired and dated, not in a quaint way but more in a badly updated in the 70's way. I'm sure it was clean but just didn't feel it. The breakfast was small and of poor quality. I have never written a review on Trip Advisor before but as I used the TA reviews as a guide when I booked St Andrews I have to as I feel they are misleading. I was expecting a more comfortable stay.

St Andrews is a beautiful big house with wonderful views . We stayed for two nights here but never really felt at home . We were confused as to how the pricing worked as it seemed to vary depending on who you asked .
When returning to collect our bags we were asked why we hadnt a key ( we had of course handed it in that morning ) and there no pleasantries attempted .
Location is lovely and overall St Andrews is adequate but it could be so good with a little more effort and organisation .

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view as it is well worth it

We had a great family holiday at St Andrew's in Ventnor. We enjoyed the sea view from both the bedroom and the garden, the latter being a real plus during the hot sunny week we stayed there. Mick and Nava made us feel very welcome and gave my daughter a card and small present on her birthday. They have a nice short cut down to the beach which we made use of too. Mick has a good knowledge of both restuarants and activities for the Isle of Wight and Ventnor in particular.

Room Tip: book a sea view

warm and friendly b&b with very welcoming hosts make your stay feel like at grandparents home rather than impersonal hotel. Enough privacy and freedom, so if you feel like enjoying yourself quietly, not a problem. Beautiful house and garden with great location and view on Ocean and close proximity to Ventnor city centre and bus stop. Disadvantage may be a bit small room and rather fixed english breakfast menu.

Room Tip: check their website, where you can see room pics.

Great few days at St Andrews with Mick & Nava, as usual made to feel like family. Great views of the sea, good breakfast and plenty of fun time together, hope to visit again next year.

The location in Ventnor is good and the property has good sea views. The hosts are very welcoming, but after a long journey to the Isle of Wight you really just want to put your bags in your room. Rather than have a long chat..

We didnt realise there was a single suppliment for guests staying on their own as the website advertises a per person price, one of the reasons for choosing this B&B. I feel that it was overpriced for the money and the bathroom in number 10 could do with some attention, the shower head can not be moved to point downwards into the shower .. bit of a pain.

Breakfast wasn't great - the room is pretty cramped and felt a little awkward asking for more toast etc. There are a lot of other places in Ventnor, if we return we will look at other options.

As soon as we arrived at the hotel Mick and Nava made us very welcome, you immediately feel more like family than guests. I was booked into a double room with my son but we were given a family room with sea view as this was also available. Its worth trying to get a sea view if you can, the view of the bay is stunning. At only 5 minutes walk from the beach and no rate increase in school holidays I am surprised this hotel is not more popular with families. Our family room had a huge double bed, and a set of bunk beds, and a large bathroom with bath. Most of the other guest had stayed at the hotel before, and I will definitely return

Room Tip: ask for a sea view room
