“Beautiful spot, lovely hosts”
Reviewed 24 February 2009

We stayed at the Leconfield for one night - we were a party of 8 so there were only a couple of others there at the same time as us. The reason we chose it was that the hosts were so helpful and friendly when we first enquired. It was midwinter so we planned to spend most of our time inside and wanted somewhere we felt welcome.
The rooms were lovely and the whole place looked like it had been freshly decorated, it was so clean. Everything was very well run, the food was great and they were very helpful in accommodating all that we needed. It's a short taxi ride from the end of the train line and right on top of the hill above the sea with beautiful walks all around. Highly recommended for a lovely quiet weekend.

We arrived at the Leconfield looking forward to a luxury break having received the brochure. The room was similar to a B&B we stayed at last year for a quarter of the price. I did not expect painted over tiles in the bathroom with dodgy filling around the basin. The breakfast was very nice, however we were seated at a table the first day and told this was our table for the week (we were moved 3 times) It seemed we were not treated in the same way as guests that had paid for evening meals, we were also surprised at being charged for what we thought was a complimentary cup of tea on arrival. The rooms were very clean and had we paid around £200 less it would have been nearer the mark. Having been to New York last year we were probably spoilt!.

My Husband and I spent our Honeymoon night at the Leconfield and had an absolutely wonderful time. We knocked over candle accidently and stained the carpet with wax.
We were totally mortified. However, the owner Paul could not have been more kind or reassuring and told us to not think another thing about it. There was Champagne and a note on our arrival which was so thoughtful.
The food was great, the service impeccable. We can thoroughly reccommend the Leconfield and so look forward to returning when we are next on the Isle Of Wight..(If Paul will have us!!)
Oh! and the little blind cat was so precious! xx

We spent 3nights in the Captains Bridge and found it to be everything described on the website. It was the perfect location to unwind and relax the evening meals were westend standard and the service was 5star. Breakfast was a treat and Paul's wine list was spot on and went down very well. Our compliments to all the staff on making our stay so warm and friendly.

Just returned from a 5 night stay at The Leconfield and it is every bit as good as all the Tripadvisor reviews I had read before going.

It is situated on the outskirts of Ventnor and is about 35 minutes drive away from the ferry ports of the Isle of Wight.

Paul and Cheryl run a very efficient operation. The welcome is warm and friendly and it sets the tone for a trouble free stay.
The room we had (Starfish) was the cheapest on the tariff. It was spotlessly clean, had a great en suite shower room and a double bed together with flat screen tv. The ceiling did creak when the people in the room above walked about but I guess you come to expect that in large old houses and it certainly did not detract from the experience.

The lounges were comfortable and "littered" with information about places of interest on the Island. We had a 5 night b and b stay but decided to have dinner on three nights and we were not disappointed. The food was of a very good quality with plenty of choice. Breakfast was also exceptionally good.

There is a small outdoor swimming pool but alas we did not have time to use it.

We can certainly recommend The Leconfield as a place to stay when visiting the island

We have just returned from a 3 night stay at the Leconfield Hotel and could not fault it. The rooms, the food and the service were excellent. Paul and Cheryl were extremely welcoming and helpful. Our stay was on a dinner, bed and breakfast ferry inclusive basis and the choice of evening menu was very varied and beautifully presented. We would certainly recommend the Leconfield to other visitors.
