“Traditional English seaside hotel”
Reviewed 31 August 2013

We stayed 5 nights at the hotel taking several rooms for our family. One of the rooms was lovely, another was good, but the last one was in dire need of a total refurbishment. For example, cold water from the hot tap on the sink (and vice versa), head boards a little greasy where people had sat up in bed, beds had dips in them, carpets a little grey, loo seat was loose, bath plug not on chain etc. Saying that, the weather was warm and the sea view rooms were cooled nicely through open windows by a light and fresh sea breeze. As said by other reviewers, you cannot fault the food at all. Breakfasts and evening meals were of a consistently high quality, food was hot and the choices were very good. Service for restaurant and bar were- brilliant. Please note though, dinner is served as a relaxing occasion so takes more than 2 hours - rather than being a quick refuel. Parking is a little tricky for the average sized car and could be more so for a large car or 4x4 as the spaces are small. You may have to be patient with the parking arrangements and be prepared for some careful reversing and it is useful to have someone guide you. The facilities in the cliff top gardens are good for keeping children and adults occupied with the full sized tennis court being particularly good, and the outside pool seemed nice and clean, if a little cold. Overall, we had a pleasant stay and so did other guests it seemed. It is a relaxing seaside hotel, albeit dated in many areas, but pleasant nonetheless.

From the moment I booked our holiday I knew we were going to be warmly welcomed and indeed we were. Without exception the staff were amazing and took care of our every needs. Our room, No. 8, had great views of the sea, generous in size and nicely decorated, in fact it was charming. As for the food, breakfast was the best I have ever had in a hotel, freshly cooked to our own spec every time. Choice for dinner was excellent; something for everyone and great vegetarian choices too. Freshly cooked vegetables were also a real treat and fabulous deserts. Wine and drinks very reasonably priced and again, good choices. the facilities at this hotel are actually 5 star: pitch and put golf course, overlooking the sea, was a joy; table tennis in the garden, heated swimming pool was fabulous and the tennis court was a real hit with our family. Racquets, golf clubs etc. all provided by the hotel. The public rooms were beautiful, full of charm and character. Lovely seaview walk down to Ventnor town and beach. Would I stay there again, can't wait. This place is a jewel. People say it is a little tired in places and yes it is but it is clean and the service is excellent.

Room Tip: Sea View rooms are a must.

We stayed in this hotel for 5 days half board. It was just wonderful and a very relaxing break. The hotel is a beautiful building and it has a warm homely feel to it. Yes it's décor is tired and some parts of it clearly need to be refurnished, but it is clean and just utterly charming. The staff and owners make you feel most welcome and are happy to assist you in any way they can. Our room was spacious and had a wonderful sea view.
The pool was great and it's a 10 minute stroll to Ventnor beach.
The food in the restaurant was fresh and delicious, service yet again excellent. Breakfast was also fabulous, what a way to start the day, eating a freshly cooked Full English whilst enjoying the stunning view.
This is an old fashioned English sea side hotel and to us it was simply delightful. We will absolutely return. Thoroughly recommend to all, a good place for reunions / parties too.

Room Tip: Ask for room in the original building.

Just spent five days at this hotel, and the staff were more than willing to do anything to make us feel welcome. Our room was at the top, with a fairy tale turret window seat and a four poster bed. Everything was spotless and facilities where fine. The meals were very generous with a good selection every day.
It is a good family hotel.
As with most seaside buildings, the exterior is a little weathered, not surprising really.
The interior takes you back in time to when it was a grand residence for a wealthy Victorian Gentleman. Take the time to look at the pictures on the wall, showing it in its early days.

Room Tip: Big staircase over three floors, so make sure you ask, if you need easier access, as there is no l...

Stayed here on business in a week when most of the hotels in the north of the island seemed to be fully booked so this was not our first choice. When we were shown to our rooms our heart dropped a little due to the dated quality of the decor and bathroom.

Thought it strange my bathroom light was on when I entered the room and it took me some time to locate the light switch behind the swing door only to find I couldn’t turn it off – had to do some loosening of the fitting to turn it on and off.

I was in Room 29 which had a balcony overlooking the sea, golf course and helipad so you can't knock the view. We stayed during the recent heat-wave and so it was heart warming to awake to the glorious sunshine and the view. At night you could see the ferries and liners going by with their lights ablaze.

Although dated, the room was clean, the bed comfortable and although I could hear my neighbours talking on the balcony before going to bed I heard nothing else to disturb my sleep. The staff were friendly, the breakfast was good, well presented and on the first morning quickly prepared. Choice of juices, fruit, cereals and cooked breakfast made to order.

We didn't eat at the hotel as the meal times seemed restrictive. The problem was then finding a place to eat. Please be warned that Ventnor town closes on Mondays and Tuesdays so we were glad we had the car to find somewhere decent to eat.

Cutting across the island to get to Cowes during the heatwave showed how beautiful the IOW is and makes you come back for more.

Thinking about our stay after our visit we concluded the main problem is the price. For £90 B&B on the mainland you'd expect at least Ikea style decor and I'm not sure Ikea was even in existence the last time the room was decorated. If they had charged £60/N then I'd have considered it better VFM. We travelled before the schools broke up and the hotel was certainly not full

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome. John the owner showed us to our room which was newly renovated and very clean. We had a little patio of our own and wonderful views. The bed was huge & comfortable, and the bathroom with separate bath and shower was wonderful. The facilities in the room had everything we needed, and the information pack covered all we needed to know.
Breakfast was plentiful, the breakfast staff bright and cheerful, and the views from the breakfast table was a great start to the day.
Sadly we had a puncture in our motorbike back wheel, but John couldn't have been more helpful. He made phonecalls for us and helped us get back on the road.
If you are looking for a family run hotel with excellent staff, beautiful views, and fabulous food stay at Ventnor Towers, you will not be disappointed!

This hotel clearly has a lot of history but we felt it's lost its charm, now tired and needs a huge investment to return it to former glory.

Bedroom on first impression was lovely, bed was very comfy and we slept well, but the ensuite looked 40 years old, with a shower curtain over the bath and peeling wallpaper.

Heated outdoor pool was very cold and the patio area completely covered in large bird droppings. 9 hole minigolf course but the grass is too long to play. Paper napkins at the otherwise good breakfast.

Tough situation because it really feels like it needs a big investment but I cant imagine the market is there for the return. We felt 100 p/n was too much.
