Just back from 2 nights in this lovely hotel. We took our married daughter and two of our Grandchildren.
This place has it all, the food was amazing, breakfast, lunch by the pool or dinner in the dining room were all delicious. The staff were wonderful and we had a babysitter in the evening so our daughter could enjoy herself without the worry of the children. Great location and super views.
A find...a lovely family hotel which has great food.

Room Tip: Have a garden or sea view

Our first time in the Isle of Wight and we were not expecting the hotel to be much as we had booked online and we were expecting cheap and cheerful. Instead it was beautiful. The food was better than a lot of the best restaurants. The staff were great very happy and helpful. It is just a lovely ace to stay. We will return.

I have recently returned from a 2 night stay at The Royal and cannot quite believe how lovely it is. As soon as I walked into the Reception area my jaw dropped and stayed like this for virtually two days! This was a romantic trip and didn't disappoint. The staff provided the right amount of attentiveness. The decor mixes traditional with cheeky chic. I enjoyed looking at the black and white framed photos that cover the walls in the conservatory and bar/lounge area. Pretty sure I spotted Fangio as well as actors, actresses and jazz musicians. Our room was a good size with a large en-suite bathroom (premier double), with deliciously comfy bedding and all spotlessly clean. The food is exceptional and there's a good wine list. We enjoyed lovely walks and discovered a cricket club just off the beach set in a glorious "bowl". I have go to there again. It's marvellous!! Planning to return with my adult children next time.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view. It's worth the extra.

Thank you so much for taking the time to post a review - 'traditional cheeky chic' is sure to become a design trend! Enjoy the summer and we hope to see you again soon.

Just spent four nights at The Royal and loved it. Had a family room with "garden view" and was given a Premier room on the top floor so had a sea view too. Room was fantastic, in a L-shape so kids slept around the corner and had their own flat screen TV too. Large bathroom with big bath and separate (large) power shower.
The hotel had a lovely relaxed feel to it and was very quiet. Get's busier in the afternoons as others come for afternoon tea. Hotel food was excellent, although the restaurant menu needed more choice or at least a daily special as you'd end up eating the same if you were staying for more nights.
While some say this isn't a children friendly hotel, I would disagree. There were plenty of young families here and our 4 yr old and 13 yr old enjoyed it. But noisy or uncontrolled kids would be frowned on. The garden had a sand pit and swings for toddlers. The outside pool is heated and is great for the older children.
With absolutely no Vodafone signal in or around the hotel and a very week WiFi signal in the room (WiFi only in public area downstairs) it allowed me to switch off completely!
After talking to other guests, it seems many are regulars and come every year. And we can see why. A great four star hotel. Pricey - but like everything in this world - you get what you pay for.

Thank you for posting your lovely feedback. Apparently it's called a 'cold zone' when you have no signal and I agree sometimes you just have to switch off! We are all very pleased you and your family had an enjoyable and relaxing stay with us.
Best wishes, all the staff at the Royal

This is a lovely older style hotel set up high above the bay at Ventnor. The gardens are lovely and there is a small heated swimming pool. There is plenty of parking.

We stayed for one night only as sadly time would only allow this. There is a very nice reception area with friendly staff. However, I hate to sound old fashioned but I hate being greeting by "alright"? instead of "Good afternoon/morning" etc. Not quite the right tone considering the style of the hotel. That withstanding, the staff are all very helpful and pleasant. The room we had was large with a good bathroom with and very nice products. Tea and coffee (instant) are supplied in the room, also there is a small water each without the usual price tag attached which is nice. Our room had a view of the bay from the bed which was lovely. Decor is slightly old fashioned but goes with the style of the hotel.

The common ways have been Farrow and Balled but the rest of the hotel varies from art deco to quite Edwardian in feel. The dining room is formal and opens up, when the weather allows, onto the gardens. We had dinner which was good, especially the desserts, and breakfast was very nice too. The dining room was well managed by a charming host both in the evening and for breakfast.

My only complaint - 11.00 a.m. check out even at the weekends - surely 12.00 is early enough?

Room Tip: One with a sea view.
