My partner & I checked in with his parents for 2 nights at The Royal Hotel in June 2014 and from the moment we arrived loved every second of our stay. The hotel itself oozes European sophistication with lush furnishings and service which were a treat but it was the warmth & personality of the staff which blew us away. From reception to bar staff no request was too much trouble and every tip, direction or service was delivered with a smile and warmth. This was doubly impressive given the late nights due to World Cup (they even set up a big screen in one room for guests to watch the England game) and the fact our trip coincided with the Isle of Wight festival.

5 stars and if I could give them more I would.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the front facing the water or the garden, a real treat

Having experienced, as non-residents, The Royal's superb cuisine in the form of evening dinner (on more than one occasion) and their superbly presented traditional afternoon tea, a stay at The Royal became a must!
We achieved our goal over the recent Spring Bank Holiday weekend. We were not disappointed!
Friendly welcome at reception. Room overlooking the beautiful garden and out to sea at the front of the hotel. Room a bit on the small side but comfortably furnished with quality fittings and impeccably clean. Good sized flat screen TV. Bathroom also spotlessly clean; quality toiletries & towels provided. Overall very comfortable and more than adequate for our long weekend stay.
The Royal is quintessentially a truly British traditional hotel that upholds the traditions and quality expected of such an establishment and cannot be compared with the soulless surroundings of modern concrete and glass box hotels.
Again, the cuisine was superb. Dinner served in elegant traditional surroundings - an interesting menu with food superbly cooked and presented - served by attentive waiting staff. Decent wine list at expected restaurant prices.
Very attractive gardens and outdoor swimming pool - well maintained and cared for.
Criticisms - a few but nothing that seriously detracts from the overall quality of The Royal. We would have liked, as standard, bathrobes in our room ( we understand they are provided in higher grade rooms); more sun loungers are needed around the pool and we found the coffee & tea 'top up' service at breakfast needed to be prompted by catching the eye of passing waiters - sounds like nitpicking but 5 minutes or more with empty cups is a lifetime at breakfast!
Would we stay again? - without question!

What an amazing hotel and even more than this what amazing staff!. Nothing was too much trouble in fact I would .say the staff went above and beyond what you would expect staff to do. My dad left with some of the most precious memories. Everything worked like clockwork. Cannot say enough how much I would definitely recommend this hotel for a special function.

Room Tip: Don't panic like I did there are two car parks attached to this hotel!!

A great weekend spent at The Royal.
Very friendly staff. Very clean and fresh. AA 4* well deserved.
Definitely walk across the road an up into the "Riviera Terrace" (owned by the hotel) for a superb via of Ventnor, it's Esplanade and the bay. You can even order tea for here.
Breakfasts were great. Sadly didn't sample the dinners but what we saw as we returned late in the evening looked good.
Rooms and beds tad on the small side for the price but hey you only sleep in them.
Will definitely revisit one day.

Room Tip: Definitely go for "Garden View" to get a good view of the town and bay

Stayed here here a couple of times with other friends.
Quiet, peaceful and the staff were always there, tho you never got the impression, they seem to anticipate your needs.
Room was extremely comfortable and will be going back again this year.

This was our Anniversary 2 night break & after a lot of searching on TA decided upon The Royal.

Good- beautiful location in Ventnor, lovely looking hotel with immaculate gardens, staff very welcoming. Lovely Sea & garden views from Rm 22. Breakfast was nice.

Bad- paid for upgrade to Premier room, room quite small for price, ensuite had mould around bath & water in sink does not drain away unless you hold the lever down at the back of the tap! Horrible empty small black fridge & ugly black TV stand in bedroom, really not in keeping with rest of room which is old white furniture & blue walls/bedspread.

Ugly- the shower, absolutely no pressure at all & very hard to control temperature, could not get cold to come out, really did not expect this from a Premier room.

We did raise the shower point with the GM & he was very courteous & discounted our room as there wasn't another Premier room to move into. He did say no one had complained before which I believe him but can't understand why not. They are looking into this.

The rest of the above issues we put on the comments card as it was only the shower that we were extremely disappointed by. Our room was very overpriced for what it was, really not worth more than £175 a night, there was nothing Premier about it.

Also as this was our anniversary I did expect a little card, some small chocs or even the Reception staff to comment upon arrival, sometimes it's just the little things that make such a difference.

We stayed here for 3 nights to celebrate my wife's birthday and had a really enjoyable visit. We splashed out on a premier room which was lovely, not large but adequate space, well furnished and with a spacious modern en-suite. The room had two large windows - the view from one window was of the sea, the other of the undercliff garden that belongs to the hotel.

All the food in the hotel was excellent. Breakfast was part buffet, part freshly cooked, with a good choice. The Eggs Benedict was fantastic. Dinner was from a table d'hote menu that provided 6 or 7 options for each course and all of it was delicious. The local cheese soufle was superb, and they offer locally caught seafood, including crab and lobster, some with a price supplement. Everything we ordered was excellent!

The staff in the hotel were all friendly and helpful, and the restaurant was well run. We could not really find fault and will definitely return in the near future.

Room Tip: Our premier room was lovely but expensive. We also viewed a de luxe room and this was smaller but at...
