Great place good ales, and excellent homemade food. The Sunday roast is the best I’ve had. My wife is vegetarian and she enjoyed the food very much. Recommend to everyone who likes a family run bar.

An absolute gem in the centre of Ventnor. A real old fashioned welcome from the congenial host Graham. The traditional home cooked food is excellent and there is a good selection of ales. The memorabilia and decoration is really quite special. Definitely worth a visit.
This is our regular eatery for great food and at an unbelievable low cost. I do not know how they can do it for the price. Half price of what you would expect elsewhere.
Dropped in because of the heavy rain. We had excellent homemade meals and drinks at a very reasonable price. Querky and cosy. Felt very welcome even though mostly locals there.
My husband and I stopped on the off chance to have a drink in this small but brightly decorated hostelry and ended up having an excellent freshy cooked two course lunch from a wide ranging menu served by a welcoming and convivial landlady. The service,...atmosphere and quality of the food could not have been better. And great value!More
If you want decent well cooked food at a very reasonable price this is the place to go. Friendly staff, excellent service. We keep returning time after time.
Myself and partner with two Canadian friends visited Perks of Ventnor at the end of February for a drink and some food. We had used this little gem of a place several times in the past . Due to the Covid Virus We had not...been to the Island for nearly 2 years, We were delighted to find that Perks of Ventnor in particular and Ventnor Town in general had changed very little. Some licensed establishments that you visit are either a pub selling good beer with bad food and wine or a restaurant selling good food and wine with bad beer. This place is neither, it sells good beer/wine with good food. The Owner and staff are both friendly and professional. A previous reviewer had left a very negative review with what appeared to be a rant about an anti Gay owner and manager/staff . This is not true as both of my Canadian friends are openly gay. They know the owner and staff well having lived on the Island in the past, they both were treated the same as every one else over the years and thought that the review was unfair. I will be visiting Ventnor probably over the Easter bank holiday and will most certainly make a bee line to Perks of Ventnor.More
Dave the manager suddenly banned me for no reason. His conduct is Draconian and totally out of touch with the modern world. He is the Only person in my entire life who has ever banned me out of all the businesses I've visited over the...years. Everyone else has Welcomed my custom and accepted me for who I am, without question. When I asked him Why he banned me, he said "I don't 'have' to give a reason" then gave an insincere apology. I then explained to him that there are plenty of other businesses that I can visit. I had no wish to argue the issue with him so I left shortly afterwards. He is always the complete opposite to his other customers. I then e-mailed the owner Graham Perks. He has clearly chosen to condone his manager/barman by ignoring my e-mails, then letter requesting an explanation as to why I was banned for no reason. Graham clearly has more loyalty for his Staff than his paying customers, which shows this business's lack of respect for their customers. If Graham had any decency, he would have responded, apologized for Dave's rudeness and offered me a long overdue explanation and resolution by now. The very reason Dave is unwilling to give an explanation, and Graham is unwilling to relay to me an explanation, is because it would reflect on the truth of the matter that Dave is discriminatory against anyone who is Goth and Autistic and who Cross Dresses part-time, like at a local music & comedy festival I attended. Dave knew I was alternative from the start, yet, out of the blue, two months after my first visit, he suddenly banned me unexpectedly on the Sunday evening. I never visited cross dressed, but that shouldn't be an issue in this day and age. I also didn't have any piercings or tattoos, which are very common with alternative people, including in the Goth scene. Again, that also shouldn't be an issue. I'd merely asked him for a drink and I'd also complimented the food I'd eaten at Perks of Ventnor the week before (I visited on a Friday), which I thoroughly enjoyed. The two female staff on duty that day who spoke to me were very Welcoming, and like all staff except Dave, none of them requested me to leave. Dave had pre-planned this, as Miles called out for Dave upon my visit to the bar counter, who was clearly counting on me coming in so he could berate me in front of everyone in the room to end my custom on a whim for the sake of it. Dave acted indifferently, showing no interest whatsoever in the fact that I'd enjoyed my food the previous week and complimented it, as all he was interested in was having His say and humiliating me in front of his staff colleague and customers. Dave’s exact words were “I don’t want you coming back here again”, without saying why. I’d never caused any trouble to anyone there or anywhere else, as I am always very civil wherever I go, but there was no point me trying to reason with Dave, as he was unwilling to listen to reason. Although I remain very disappointed that Dave felt the need to ban me for no reason, and that he's refused to give a reason (as it would reflect upon the reality of his complacency that he's discriminatory against anyone whose face ' doesn't fit ', even though I was always very respectful of everyone including Dave's repeated rudeness, and my alternativeness is mild compared to some goths' appearances), the environment was far better whenever he wasn't on duty, but Dave's and Perks's loss, as Perks doesn't have a captive audience, and there are plenty of other businesses within and outside of Ventnor whose staff act Professionally towards Their customers, so Perks is of no loss to me as a customer. During an early visit last June, I once, unintentionally, forgot to put my mask back on as I approached a wall with memorabilia. I quickly rectified the situation then apologised to Dave, who insisted on saying "Rules are Rules", even though a further comment wasn't required from him, as I'd already made my apology. He just wanted to throw his weight around at any opportunity he was on duty. The environment was the opposite whenever he wasn't there. Just a week after he unfairly banned me for no reason, he carried on his charade while he visited an Indian restaurant, intimidating me after he'd booked a table for him and his friends there for the next evening. I was merely viewing the restaurant's menu to think through what to order, then, making himself obvious that he was there to make a nuisance of himself, with no witnesses (as the Indian staff were out the back by this stage), he stood in the room for several seconds then sniggered at me on his way out. For someone who is given the responsibility of managing one business, he sets a very poor example of running a business when he then intimidates a customer he had banned the previous week in a restaurant he doesn’t even work in. I ignored his immature attitude, but this man shouldn't be intimidating people within his business or especially somewhere else where he doesn't even work. My 1 star rating reflects the incident relating to 29 August 2021, the occasion I was banned for no reason, as most staff were pleasant to me and the food was very tasty, which I would have bought more of for future lunches, if it wasn’t for Dave bullying me not to return to Perks because of his hang-ups, despite me being a customer there from June to August 2021. To this day, not one other business has banned me anywhere else, as they have Respect for Their customers. Likewise to when I've bumped into staff of other businesses on occasions outside of their premises who've always been very welcoming to me within And outside of the businesses they work in. I am posting this review in the hope that no other customers are treated appallingly there or elsewhere by this rude member of staff and to reflect upon the business owner’s ignorance to take customers’ complaints seriously, which could easily have rectified this matter instead of repeatedly ignoring it. I have also notified various people of the above incidents relating to August and September 2021, who are equally as shocked and appalled at how I’ve been treated. It’s their call as to whether they return to Perks, visit for the first time or never go there, but at least some have refused to visit there for the first time, on principal, in case They are also subjected to the same treatment. I don’t blame them.More
This is my second visit to Perks, and if it stays the same it wont be my last!. Visiting a friend who is now a Ventnor Resident we wanted somewhere for a nice lunch with good food and somewhere we could have a chat and...catch up over Lunch. This as before proved to be just the Place. The inside is fascinating dedicated to everything British and britishness! You could spend hours just trying to read and look at everything on the walls here!. The food is great . Nothing too Fancy or posh but that's what's great. Its good home cooked meals. Nice beer or wine to go with your meal. No rush to get you to eat and move on so your table can be freed up. Its a very relaxed atmosphere. I agree with the comments that say the only problem is that its on the Isle Of Wight and not nearer my home!More
Just a couple of lunch time drinks waiting for the bus. But Friendly welcome and Very attentive service. Lovely house gin and tonic. Interesting interior decor. Incidentally it’s up for sale with the flats above and below it. A few years ago I could have...been tempted… Nice place.👍More
Fantastic, quirky, friendly! We went for drinks a couple of times during our stay in Ventnor, and thought this place was absolutely fantastic. Very friendly, great decor, couldn’t fault it. I just wish they would open up a branch near us!
The staff treat you like a friend and family, such an easy going place and the food is world class at prices you wouldn’t believe. If you like friendliness, great food and a relaxing atmosphere, Perks is the place to go and unwind.
Found this bar on the second evening of our holiday and then ended up going every evening for the remainder of our holiday. It is quirky and small but oh my goodness, we were treated like we had been regulars for years. The locals are...very friendly and if Carlsberg made barmen it would be David - the perfect host. We are planning on visiting Ventnor again this year and we will be going back to our ‘local’.More
We were very thirsty in Ventnor so chose to visit Perks for a quick drink. It's almost like stepping back in time with all the British memorabilia everywhere, and the traditional lunch crowd (we brought the average age down by a couple of decades). The...lady serving was lovely and friendly, and she clearly knew all the locals well - we could see why this place would get loyal custom.More
Great little bar celebrating all things British! Some really interesting memorabilia on the walls. Excellent service and great atmosphere, some might say "quirky", but well worth a visit! Sensible prices too!
