Enjoyed a good tasting meal, though a little on the expensive side for the amount / quality. Not child friendly and no kids menu available. Good and friendly table service.

We had booked to go to a different restaurant, so when they rang 20mins before to say they had overbooked we were a bit miffed. It ended by being a blessing as we found the Ale and Oyster. Even though it was a Saturday night, Ventnor Carnival & Fringe weekend. The friendly staff promised they would get us a table if we didn't mind a wait. We enjoyed a drink on the terrace and people watched, till a table became free. The food was worth the wait! Good value and served with a smile by the hardworking staff. The restaurant seemed popular with the locals (always a good sign in my book), so I recommend you book you may not be so lucky as we were.

Very friendly staff tabled us late after a disaster of a meal at the nearby met.

The ambience and view from the place is lovely.

We ordered the fish and chips and pan fried chicken, took a while to arrive- the chicken was fantastic, however the fish and chips were average.

Worth a go in a pinch.

We had a lovely table outdoors on the tiny veranda and ordered fish and chips with pea puree, and sole with capers and sauté potatoes. Food lovely, service attentive although far too few to cope with their evident popularity. An excellent evening, no wonder it's popular with the locals.

I have to start off with a small negative... The exterior of this fine restaurant/bar belies just how good it is. It's just a tad in need of a spruce-up...

But that's the end of the negativity. Inside it's a pretty sleek experience.

My son and had the steaks. Tender doesn't begin to describe them...I could have cut mine with a spoon!

Service was excellent, the beer and wine we'll-chosen and we'll-kept.

We were back for beers the next day!!
