Firstly apologies to the Management of the hotel for the delay in writing this- been busy travelling ! We stayed at the hotel on the 13th October this year. From the start to finish our stay was second to none. Lovely welcome from the lady at reception - we were showed our room and how to use the gadgets ! Lovely clean, bright , elegant room - with balcony and some amazing views out to sea. We had booked for my partners birthday and we ate in the restaurant. We had the taster menu with wine - we have eaten in some Michelin star rated restaurants before but this is the best we have tried. The elegant food was presented superbly the tastes were amazing - no need for special effects here - the WOW factor is in the first bite you take.. The choice of wines with each course were again spot on - they complimented the food and did not over-power. The staff were attentive and very, very good. The package could not be bettered ! We spoke with Robert Thompson at the end of the meal and just loved his vision for the future of the hotel and his plans for expansion. I cannot explain in words how good the whole experience was - the room , the evening meal , the views and a wicked breakfast . We could not ask for more. Thank you to everyone at the hotel for a fantastic day and night

We stayed at the Hambrough for our wedding anniversary. The hotel arranged for a taxi pick-up for us which was very helpful.

The hotel is beautifully decorated, very stylish. It looks out over the bay at Ventor. We were welcomed by the very helpful manager Adrian. Our room was stunning - gorgeous decoration and v comfy bed. We also had a bowl of fruit provided when we arrived. The TV, DVD and satellite TV was a bonus too.

We had dinner at the Hambrough that evening (separate review), needless to say amazing!

Breakfast was phenomenal. No charge for breakfast in bed, and the most amazing breakfast food in a hotel we've had. Eggs benedict and porridge highly recommended.

We stayed for 2 nights and the breakfast on the second morning was just as good as the first. Buffet style continental with a choice of hot food. Again - service was impeccable.

We wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Hambrough to anyone wanting a lovely relaxing weekend with excellent food. Thank you all!

Room Tip: The rooms with views are amazing but the smaller rooms are better value.

Hotel was cool and sophisticated, great position/views/bedrooms/furnishings.
Only 1 dislike - transparent acrylic chairs in bar - brave choice but....
Everything else was superb, staff, breakfast & especially dinner . Will
be back - need more of this.

Room Tip: First floor easier than 2nd floor.

Thank you for your kind review, we are delighted you enjoyed your stay with us and look forward to welcoming you back in the near future. The chairs have been an interesting talking point amongst guests and the team however, we will see changes to the bar set up in the near future.Thank you again.

My wife and I decided to take up a recommendation to stay at 'The Hambrough'. We are so glad that we did! We were lucky enough to have a balcony room, which was comfortable, stylish and had a wonderful view! All including the manager, the restaurant and bar staff made our stay a memorable one. As to Robert Thompson's skills in the kitchen - superb! After a great meal he kindly joined us, in the bar, for an interesting chat. We will be back!

Room Tip: We had Room 1 - great.

Stayed on the spur of the moment...great decision! Room reasonably spacious with good facilities (balcony room would be even lovelier, I'm sure)...restaurant ambience lovely, staff great and food absolutely sublime - don't miss it!

The beach area at Ventnor is really lovely - faded Victorian elegance mixed with very recent (and surprisingly OK) attempts to modernise...but town itself a little damaged by the recession.

Room Tip: We didn't stay in a balcony room as they were booked, but would I'm sure have even better vi...

We celebrated our special day in this fantastic place surrounded by the splendid site of Ventnor esplanade. We wanted our wedding small and intimate, just families. We have to say that we had an absolute perfect day. With cordial and generous disposition towards guests, the Hambrough team was really supportive and friendly , we will not forget the tears of joy that we shared. The wedding breakfast was delicate in design and taste, and we will not forget the Hambrough magic touch for the wedding cake. A side we did rent the Villa Lavinia which was spacious, well equiped for self catering and comfortable, so families were at their ease for our special event.
Many thanks to the Hambrough ! H&E

It may just be me, but I've always struggled to find somewhere spot-on to stay when visiting fthe Isle of Wight. That is, until now: Robert Thompson's The Hamborough Hotel is a restaurant with rooms that will satisfy travellers who usually stay in Soho House, The Pig, Babbington House, etc. and for whom the traditional IOW B&B just does not appeal.

Friendly, professional staff who are happy to go the extra mile - retrieve a lost magazine or change our ferry booking, for example. A genuine attempt to make your stay memorable and - of course - fabulous food. I am a coeliac (and vegetarian) who needs to remain 100% gluten free. This was no trouble at all, and the great value lunch menu (£29 for three courses including a glass of wine) was adapted to my requirements.

I enjoyed a delicate beetroot salad with horseradish cream, broad bean and mint risotto and a plate of local cheeses and homemade chutney. Cubes of intense raspberry jelly accompanied coffee. My husband selected skate wing and a veal cutlet with boulangerie potatoes that he rated above a recent lunch at a well-known London eaterie that had an extra Michelin star. A well-judged bottle of rose was recommended by the sommelier.

Take someone you love and ask for a room with a balcony overlooking the sea. Wake up to hear the waves, wrap up warm and walk around the coast for 20 minutes to sweet Steephill Cove, visit the Botanical Garden, and then borrow a DVD to watch in your room until hopping downstairs for dinner. Ventnor is an interesting mixture of faded glamour, working harbour, and quirky seaside destination.

If, like me, you're a coeliac it's well-worth noting that the Terrace Restaurant at Osborne House offers a roasted vegetable and goat cheese salad for a gluten-free snack while you're out and about.

.

Ventnor has the air of a once-faded resort that is once more up and coming. An undercliffe, coffee shops on the seafront, a few shops selling vinatge items and curios, and some fab Victorian architecture make this a greta seaside retreat

Room Tip: Room Number One has a large balcony and a bathroom with freestanding soaking tub.
