“Birthday treat”
Reviewed 24 January 2013

We stayed for one night as a birthday treat. We had a balcony room overlooking the bay. Beautiful sunset and sun rise.

Hotel is lovely. The restaurant exceptional. Highly recommended. Have stayed in great hotels all over the world; this is one of the best

This was the second time we have stayed at the hamborough. The first time I was really impressed with the food, I wanted to go again.
We booked a one night mid week dine & stay @ £80pp
This time we were advised the restaurant was closed but they would book us in at their sister restaurant just up the road.

We had to ask the hotel to book a taxi for us to get to the restaurant, I wasn't impressed we were expected to pay for this +£10

The set menu had a very poor choice, the main was a fish dish or a pasta. We were advised we could eat off the a la carte menu +£15pp

Out room looked nice but was basic, the bed barley a double & sheets rather than a quilt.

£200 (not including the wine we choose which they had run out of) for a one night stay & dine, mid week, out of season is very overpriced. The quality of the hotel does not match the actual hamborough restaurant.

I've stayed in a lot nicer hotels for a lot better value.

Wouldn't stay again, or eat in their sister restaurant 'the Pond'

Breakfast to our room was the best part of the stay.

Thank you for your feedback regarding your dine & stay with us. We are of course upset that you felt the price was too high and assure you that all of your comments have been taken on board. Our Winter special offer has been designed for local residents to enjoy our award winning rooms and restaurants during out of season. Supplements (i.e for the a la carte) are subject to our guests preferences of dishes, Robert has designed a set menu that uses all the freshest ingredients available which is £15 - £20 per person - the "a la carte" is usually around £40 per person for three courses with particular dishes such as Sea Bream, Local Lamb and Partridge. All feedback is vital to us and we strive each day to improve upon each area of our business. We hope that you can return to us at some point in the future.

Bit late with my recommendation but have definitely spread the word by mouth. My partner and I stayed here back in September 2011 and couldn’t fault anything. The service was top notch, as was the food; both vegetarian’s we also liked the fact that we were not charged as much as meat eaters... which is very rare!!!! Defiantly recommended to all

The Hambrough is the place to stay if you want a carefree break away. We stayed over Christmas and there was nothing extra that we could have wished for. They even got in Dr Pepper Zero especially for my wife as it is her favourite drink. She got a Flaming Dr Pepper cocktail on Christmas Day. The staff are friendly and very professional. The food is exceptional because of their exceptional Chef-patron Robert Thompson.

It is a long journey for us to the Isle of Wight but the stay at the Hambrough makes it all worth while.

Room Tip: All the rooms are well equiped but go for either room 1 or room 2 for the balconies.

We recently stayed at the Hambrough in room 2 and I have to say this is one of the nicest hotels I have stayed in. Great decor, facilities and location. Breakfast was amazing and I highly recommend the eggs benedict in addition all the staff are friendly and well informed. Thanks for a great stay!

Just the sort of place we like - clean, contemporary, stylish, with an excellent restaurant.
Food and presentation were exquisite, both at the Hambrough and its sister restaurant the
Pond Cafe. Staff very accommodating. No spa, fitness room or other frills, but that's how we like it. Parking not quite so easy.

From the first phone call to make our booking, we had high hopes for a fantastic weekend at The Hambrough. Nothing was too much trouble to ensure all details were covered before our arrival and when you’re travelling with two small children you want to know you’re going to be looked after.
Our package included one dinner in the restaurant and we wanted our two small boys (aged 5 and 4) to join us. Other similar restaurants have either just ‘tolerated’ them or simply refused to have them, despite the fact they are probably better behaved than many adult diners! I was assured that children were welcomed rather than just tolerated and that they could either have smaller versions of the main menu or Robert Thompson would be happy to prepare a special meal for them. Sounded too good to be true.
We arrived on Thursday afternoon and stayed in Room 5 for the first night, switching to the larger Room 1 for the next two nights. Room 1 wasn’t available for the whole stay but switching was completely hassle free as the lovely staff took care of everything for us.
Both rooms were beautiful, very well-appointed, spotlessly clean and very spacious with glorious sea views. Room 1 had the added bonus of a lovely balcony and was slightly larger.
We needn’t have worried about the children either. The boys were accommodated on a sofa bed which was made up each evening and put away again the next morning; a nice touch and allowed us to enjoy the room fully during the day. At dinner they were made to feel so welcome that we could all relax and enjoy a thoroughly delightful evening. All of the staff were so friendly and couldn’t have been more helpful. True to their word, special meals were designed for our younger son while our 5 year old enjoyed meals from the main menu.
As for the food, it can be summed up in one word: fantastic. Breakfast was lovely with some interesting twists on the normal offerings and dinner was truly delicious and presented beautifully. (And compared to other Michelin starred restaurants, great value for money too.)
Overall, our stay at The Hambrough was faultless and we very much hope to return soon.
