My wife and I were booked in for a 3 night stay just before Easter to avoid the crowds. We were met at the door by Bob and Esme, Bob helped us with our luggage and took us to our room. We had booked the larger 4 poster with spectacular views of the Harbour and sea front. The room was spacious and spottlessly clean with crisp bed linen. We were not dissapointed.
Our main reason for visiting Ventnor was to use it as a hub for walking. Bob provided us with expert local knowledge and hand drawn maps showing the best scenic routes and tea stops. Without this we would have missed the most delightful tea shack on the coastal route to Shanklin.
With regards to eating out, again Bob came to the rescue offering first hand knowledge of the local pubs and restuarants. We recommend 'Philleas Fog' just up the hill. Fantastic food served in a timely manner. For more traditional pub grub, we were directed to 'The Spyglass', a short walk along the sea front. We chose a night of Jazz and was most impressed. Entertainment is on most nights.
This leaves Esme and her 'to die for' breakfast. Choice is limitless, I had Kippers one morning which melted in my mouth. My wife chose a half breakfast which was plenty.
All good things come to an end and sadly for us we took a call just after breakfast the second day to realise a member of our family was ill. Bob and Esme could see our distress and went that extra mile to help in what way they could. The telephoned ahead to the ferry company and arranged a change at no cost. Our bill was left unsettled to be sorted at a later date. This left us with the daunting 6 hour drive to Yorkshire. Arriving at the Ferry operator in Yarmouth, they were expecting us and placed us on the next available ferry. A few weeks later Esme sent us a touching email and reimbursed our card for the day we had lost. Bob and Esme did not have to do this and for that I am most grateful.

I recommmend the St Augustine in Ventner with out reservation. In fact If Bob and Esme ever sold up and bought another Hotel, I would recommend that without even visiting it, I know they would never settle for second best.

Room Tip: Any Sea view room is a delight.

One of the best hotels I have stayed in for a while, Bob and Esme are great hosts. It's good value for the price with excellent sea views and 2 minutes to the sea. Will definitely be back agin very soon.

We stayed in the Tower room, it was a very unusuall room as it was overlooking the bay on three sides, not a huge room, but a good sized 5ft bed with lovely crisp white bedlinen.( this isthe room to ask for if you are looking for something a little quirky, not your usuall room )
we had a lovely stay and Bob & Esme made us so welcome. We had the most beautiful breakfast, ranging from full cooked to fresh fruit with yoghurt .
Thank you bob & Esme ," we will be back"

This was our second stay at The Augustine Villa and it won't be our last. We received the same warm, friendly welcome from Bob and Esmie and had a wonderful sea view room. The breakfast menu is varied and so good we had to extend our daily walks!
We are already looking forward to our next stay.

Room Tip: Sea view room if possible.

we were looking for somewhere to relax chill out and facing the sea
we researched a few hotels in Ventnor before deciding on this one as the description matched our criteria
It looked fantastic and when we got there it was as we expected
beautifully maintained ,fantastic location ,quiet ,extremely friendly and helpful proprietors, very clean rooms great food and lovely ambiance. To be able to come and go as we pleased was a great bonus as was the little extras they had...phone ...internet,shower gels ....lots of 'what to do and where to go' guides.
I would not hesitate to recommend this Hotel to anyone ...my only tip would be when you get to Shanklin Station? take a cab
it will only be about £10 because if you take the bus there is quite a walk to the hotel from the bus stop and carrying luggage far is not nice

We just got back from a great stay at St Augustine Villa. Bob and Esme are the perfect hosts, friendly and available to answer any questions without being too "in your face".

Our rooms were nicely decorated and well maintained with good views of the seafront and quiet harbor. Beds were comfortable and the shower was very powerful. Breakfast was excellent and Esme did a great job of remembering everyone's drink preferences etc. We had no problem parking at the hotel but space was limited and would be a problem in the summer, a town parking lot is just a short walk away on the seafront.

For dining nearby we tried and would recommend El Toro Tapas and Phileas Fogg in the town and the Ale and Oyster on the waterfront. Reservations are necessary on the weekend even in April and would probably be needed every day during the busy summer season.

Ventnor is a great location, small enough to not feel as touristy as Sandown/Shanklin etc and well situated for driving to the island's attractions. There are steep hills everywhere though so people with walking difficulties may have problems.

I can highly recommend a stay at St Augustine Villa for a relaxing vacation. The villa has the best position of any hotel in Ventnor with views directly out to sea from most of the rooms. The owners Bob and Esme made the stay a pleasure. They were very helpful in recommending places to eat in the area. I found Ventnor an ideal base for two days of walking. I can recommend the walk west along the front to the Botanic gardens and then onwards to St Catherines and Lulworth cove. All together a great place to stay.
