Love the IOW, love Ventnor and you won't find a more friendly hotel anywhere on the Island. David and Jan and their incredibly loyal staff have been a part of our annual getaways for decades. Well appointed rooms, nice (self service) bar and a decent six course evening meal with friendly amusing banter make for a refreshing, relaxing time.
I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to any first time trippers to the island (previous incumbents will need no such recommendation)
Book and enjoy - you won't regret it !

We found St Maur via the Ryde Tourist Info and enjoyed our stay there. The rooms were fine, some with views of the sea from a delightful balcony (albeit from a distance), but we had been told we would get only glimpses so we were more than happy.
The rooms were clean and well appointed: my wife would always prefer a duvet and we could perhaps quibble about the size/location of the tv but these are minor points: all the staff made us feel very welcome, from arriving through to breakfast and room cleaners. The hotel was spotlessly clean and the breakfasts were good and served in a warm and punctual way.
The honesty bar was a nice touch, especially as it was filled with local ales.

How to go from a 4 star to a 5 star from us? I guess staying at the 21 in Brighton and the leazes in Cirnecester has spoilt us, but i always love a DVD library when the nights are cold/wet, more info about what to do in the rooms would be helpful, and a few more 'bits of luxury' always help. These may not matter to you, and it is a more than good hotel, and you will be warmly welcomed and not regret choosing this.

Thank you for your comments, we are glad you both enjoyed your stay with us, also we take on board your suggestions as we like to provide as much as we can for our guests. We are upgrading all our Televisions to flat Screens so very soon all rooms will have larger flat screen tvs. Once again thank you.

Our 2nd visit to this little gem of a hotel. From the moment you book to the moment you leave it is like visiting friends - except of course you have to pay up before you drive off. The food is excellent - proper home made meals cooked to perfection. If you can put up with the laughter from happy staff ( we can ) then every meal time is a pleasure. We booked and were unable to have one of the front facing rooms. There was therefore a small discount for the Standard Room. This was a large well maintained bedroom that felt far better than standard. The floor boards creaked a bit but with no bedroom below I am sure no-one noticed.

So what is wrong with the place - ermmm.
The off raod car park is a bit tight but with such nice fellow guests this is quite managable.
The bar is now a 24hr honesty bar - a change from our last visit. Not such a great change for me as I like the 'Fawlty Towers thing' of a bar opening at 6pm for pre dinner drinks and then a chat with 'mine host', before going to bed, over a pint of lager.
Still if these are my only complaints then the place can't be too bad can it?

An excellent hotel with friendly staff, delicious food and surprising views of the Solent.
The owner and his wife have made St. Maur a place you would want to go back to time and time again.
Hint - use the street name on your satnav and polish up your parking skills.
