“Had a great time.”
Reviewed 6 July 2009

We were in the isle of man for our eldest daughter's wedding, a party of eight stayed in this hotel. The reception and bar area's were nice and clean and the reception staff very helpfull. We had a standard double room which was a bit on the small side, but comfortable and clean, no view either. My cousin paid a bit more for a sea view and had a bigger room. The breakfast was buffet style you helped yourself and on the whole was very nice. Can't say much more because we didn't get to see a lot as we were tied up only that we had a good crack in the hotel bar every night.

We stayed in this hotel over the New Year. The receptionist was lovely, friendly and full of information.

The breakfast is supposed to be freshly cooked. On the first morning the sausages were wrinkly and cold, the scrambled egg was watery and drinkable. Not good. The young girls serving the breakfast were giggling among themselves and speaking in their own language.

We found the bedroom small but it was nice and warm which we were glad of because it was so cold outside.

We loved the location of the hotel. It is on Central Promenade and is only a 5 minute walk to the shops. It is lovely to sit in bar and look out at the sea.

We booked a standard room at the Empress. It was clearly recently updated and was well appointed with a good bathroom with excellent power shower.
We were only staying one night and were very pleased overall with the room, reception staff and the service at the function we attended at the hotel. Breakfast was fine and we were pleased that we could take breakfat from 6.45am as we were leaving early.
We were also pleased not to be disturbed by any late night noise (this was a Saturday night)
If we had been staying longer we would have found the room rather small and lacking in storage space but for one night we found the Empress good value for money.

I stayed in the Empress on a family holiday recently, it was fabulous. the rooms were spacious, it was clean and tidy, the staff were pleasant and very helpful. I was a very impressed with the restaurant, the food was exceptional for a hotel and the waiters were very attentative and helpful.

I would definitely recommend this to anybody who is looking at visiting the Isle of Man.

We recently had a 3 night stay at The Empress Hotel Douglas Isle of Man. The hotel is lovely, very clean with great facilities. The only thing that let it down was the staff. On checking in the Receptionist did not inform us of the facilities available, and did not come across friendly or helpful. We had a meal in the downstairs restaurant - the food was very average and not worth the money. The bar staff were also not warm and friendly but somewhat cold but efficient. The only time we experienced a friendly smile was on checking out. A warm friendly smile and general chat goes a long way to make a guest feel welcome

An old hotel that has been modernised. Standard rooms are very small and ours had a sloping floor. The view from the bedroom window was of the building site next door; dust from which set off the fire alarm at 3 a.m. and got everyone outside on the prom. The food and service at breakfast was terrible.
No parking.
We checked out after one night (having booked for four) and we weren't the only ones. Got the impression that this was a regular occurence.

Stayed at the Empress for one night on a business trip. Truly dissappointed for the amount of money it cost (£85 per night).
Small room facing other rooms at the Hotel with a net outside the window for whatever reason.
Staff unhelpful - I requested an iron and was told I had to come down to reception and fetch it myself. Not what I would expect for £85 a night.

Having walked through the modern looking bar and reception area, I thought I was at Faulty Towers. Outdated decor, creaking floorboards and frankly, needs modernising.

Would not recommend this hotel to anyone at this price. If it was around £40 - £50 per night, then okay..
