“Nice To Be Back!”
Reviewed 24 August 2011

I hadn't realised it but the last of our previous 3 visits to this hotel must have been back in the 1980's,how time flies,so when we wanted a last minute break on the Island & it came up we thought we would give it a go.
Having read some replies about how bad it looked from the outside we were surprised to see how good it looked,a little tired yes but by no means as bad as we had been lead to believe.
Parking was our first problem, the car park was very full on our arrival,we were lucky as somebody parked right by the entrance moved off & in we went, determined now that the car was staying put!
Once inside the entrance is clean & bright, one problem tho',we had booked 4 nights & they had us down for 2,a problem sorted the next day,one thing to remember when that happens is to make sure your room key is reprogrammed for the extra nights, something we forgot & had a long walk back to reception who quickly solved the problem.
We had room 247,the last room on a long corridor which seemed to get longer every time we walked it,with a sea view but sadly not a balcony, contrary to another reviewer not all sea front rooms have balconies, the origional rooms do but the ones constructed when the hotel was extended some years ago do not, nevertheless we had a wonderful view, the room was clean, roomy & bright if,like the exterior looking a little tired in places,& with mixer taps on the wash basin which we never did work out, turning the hot tap often gave cold water & turning the cold tap hot water, baffling!
On our later visits we have been used to staying nearer the town centre so the Palace seemed an awful long walk away,we ain't as young as we used to be!,but we soon got to know the bus services which stopped right outside the hotel,as do the horse drawn trams.
We did not eat at the hotel although we were sorely tempted, the smell from the Paragon Carvery was wonderful at times, maybe next time!
On our last day my Wife fancied a swim, the pool area is wonderful, large pool & a lovely seated area with big comfy sofa's for me to sit, watch the wonderful view over Douglas Bay & listen to my music, superb, they also serve refreshments in this area, there are also spa facilities & a gym there.
Overall a wonderful stay,a full review of the trip will be on TA forums when I get time.

I was a little disappointed with the outside, it doesn't look quite like the picture. You enter around the back of the building through the car park. The staff were very friendly and polite. The room was clean and had everything you needed, only a little small, the loo is too close the the bath and the shower is over the very narrow bath. But ok as we only stayed a couple of nights.
If you are at the back of the hotel, be expected to be woken as people enter and leave the Casino into the early hours.
The breakfast was really good, just don't be tempted to sit by the window, you will cook.
Spa area was nice, with a lovely view over the sea. if you get the choice though; go to the Sefton (as we did last time), it's on the same road, and everything is just that little bit better.
OK for a short break.

Room Tip: See view, as can get noised late at night at the back.

stayed at this hotel whilst exploying the I.O.M on a motor cycle, good on site parking.our room faced to the rear of the building, and there was some noise from kitchen extractors and the bin man at 7.30 am. Room was small but well furnished nice bathroom with soft towels and nice quality soaps etc.our stay included use of the health club with a good size pool and a steamroom, all very clean ,restarunt was good value (a carvery every night )and a good bar menu, just as well because i did not notice many restuarants about outside.staff were friendly and helpfull. Paid £65 a night room only on line with a deal.

Myself and a colleague stayed at the Palace hotel during a business trip to the Isle of Man. Overall the stay was good. Nothing stood out as extremely negative or positive during our stay.

The rooms that we were booked in had been refurbished probably in the last year or so, and were done very tastefully. It appears that the main restaurant has been renovated, and while we were there I notice that they had started repainting some of the hallways. The common areas are in most need of a facelift now, as is the exterior, which might drive some away, as it is kind of drab and tired looking.

The breakfast buffet in the morning was done very well, and I was pleasantly surprised that even if you're not used to the typical English breakfast, there was plenty there to find what you wanted, regardless of tastes.

The only 'issue' we ran into is that we were not able to check in early. This was not the hotel's fault, but rather an error with who booked the room, but if you are traveling quite a distance and expect to check in before 4PM, you should arrange this ahead of time. Overall the staff were quite courteous and helpful.

Room Tip: Be sure to book a sea side room. The view from the west side of the hotel is of the car park.

When visiting the Isle of Man we always stay at The Sefton. However, we acquired a little dog in February this year and so could not stay there. Discovered the Palace is part of The Sefton group so decided to try it. Must say we were pleasantly surprised. For the grand price of £95 per night we and our dog were welcomed in a friendly and efficient way. Clean, functional and comfortable sea view bedroom and bathroom (though maybe not as big as we would prefer), lovely dog bed, blanket and pillow and a good quality, buffet breakfast. What more do you need for a short break? Dog heaven in that he could see the beach from the window and raced along it several times a day.
Whilst not of the excellent standard of The Sefton, this hotel represents really good value for money and is kind to dogs too!
Will definitely stay there again.

We had a short 5 day trip to the Isle of Man and chose to stay at the Palace. I cannot fault our stay as the rooms were clean and modern and we had beautiful views over the sea front. The food was lovely- lots to choose from at breakfast and wonderful meals at both the Paragon and Atlantis restaurants. Staff were friendly and helpful and made a fuss over our 2 children of 3 and 7. The kids enjoyed having the pool on site, the beach across the road, a cinema (for those rainy days!) just a stones throw away and a great ice cream parlour a short stroll down the road (definitely recommended)!! Look forward to another stay here next year.

I have stayed here many times now and this hotel has always been great. It is right in the centre of douglas. With excellent sea views. The rooms on the front all have balconies.
