“Not Bad At All”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 December 2011

I stayed at the hotel because our company Christmas party was being held there and it made more sense to stay at the hotel than try an get home.

I was very pleasantly surprised. I'd never stayed at The Palace before and I had not heard got things about it, but it was on the whole very nice. The room was nicely done out and clean, there was plenty of toiletries, biscuits, tea & coffee provided. I had a good nights sleep and the check-out time of 12 certainly helped after the Christmas party!

I didn't use the pool or gym, but I have done before about 10 years ago and I remember it be very nice.

I would definitely stay here again.

Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review for the Best Western Palace Hotel and Casino.

We are very pleased that you enjoyed your one night stay with us (in a standard double room) and that you found the room provisions plentiful for your use.

We trust that the next time you need to stay over in Douglas, you will once again choose to stay with us and save the taxi fare home to Peel.

The hotel was larger than we usually go to. However, the bedrooms were comfortable but we had no sea view from the room. The dining area was segregated from the main one and was a tad on the cold side. We had to ask for the heating to be put on, as the weather was not exactly hot for June. A big step was in the way to the separate dining room and had to climbed up then down to access it. That was somewhat a put off and was not wheelchair friendly. The food was very good but the service was a little on the slow side. The weeks stay could have been better, had we been incorporated in the main dining area, instead have been herded into the 'other' room.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms come at an extra price.

Thank you very much for your comments regarding the hotel during your stay with the tour in June. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay on the island, and the food at the Palace, but apologise for the steps en-route to the dining area. There is an alternative route (which is a lengthier walk), but the room is fully wheelchair accessible.

We do hope that we may be able to welcome you back to the Palace again soon, and will endeavour to provide you with a seaview room on your next visit!

booked this hotel for a long wkend on manx gp fortnight. The reason we went for this hotel was because all other hotels were full,it was quiet expensive but had good reviews and a good rating. The hotel was nicely presented inside, we had breakfeast in the restaurant which was excellent with a great view, the staff were excellent. The rooms were very average, old fashioned and the beds were terrible. The hotel car park was big but that didnt matter because it was always full with cars belonging to people not staying at the hotel.

Thank you for taking the time to post a review, and we hope that you enjoyed the races during the Grand Prix! Thank you too for your favourable comments regarding the breakfast, the staff and the magnificent views over Douglas bay. Regarding the mattress, we apologise for the condition you found it, but assure you that we have a policy of regular replacement and trust that on your next visit, you will enjoy the comfort of a brand new bed!

our family took 2 rooms, one was dearer, it's view of Douglas seafront was worth the extra cost, it was also larger. The star feature of this hotel is the indoor pool, and the adjacent lounge area, if only the cost of getting to the IOM was less we would come to the Palace more often, but there are criticisms to make, a lot of the decor is shabby, and actually dark and gloomy. The car park side of the hotel needs a lot of refurbishment, but there are masses of car spaces. The hotel is a long walk from Douglas centre, we chose to try the horse trams and the buses instead of driving. We liked the dining room and the breakfast we ate there on a lovely sunny morning and it is that memory which is with me now. All in all a nice hotel.

Room Tip: Worth it to pay the extra for a sea view room

Went as a group of 9 for a stag do. RJ's taxis picked us up (they also took us to the go kart track in Jerby, back via a 2 hour pub stop in Ramsey and back to the airport for 20 a head, including the karaoke minibus!!) and it was around 15 minutes from the airport to the Palace.

Rooms are clean, fairly nicely decorated and had all that you could need for a simple stay. Our rooms all looked out across the sea front, rather striking. Perhaps not great at 8am with a very sore head!

We didn't take breakfast, cheaper options are plentiful in the town centre (10 minute walk). The casino is fairly small, 2 blackjack tables (5 and 2 min. bet) 2 roulette wheels and a few assorted brag and dealer poker games with maybe a dozen slot machines. There is also a bar in here, at 3.50 a bottle it's a pricey do.

Upstairs there is a lounge bar next to the restaurant. If you are after a beer, head downstairs to Colours, much cheaper bar on the promenade.

A pretty good place for a bunch of fellas to bed down for the night, perhaps a bit pricey (80 per twin room) but with the bars and casino it did what we needed.

Room Tip: Odd numbered rooms have sea facing views.

We booked 2 twin rooms - got room 430 (fine room - no fridge though) and 432. Room 432 is part of the new extension according to the duty manager. Although the wardrobe is narrower than the 4 coat hangers supplied and also contains an ironing board (which had to sit in front of the window so that I could hang 3 dresses - side on) and the overall room is so cramped that you are tripping over everything as you try to move, the duty manager felt that in essence the room is still a twin room and is therefore as good as any other twin room. Way to go - how to ruin a holiday in what was otherwise a beautiful island. I note that the Isle of Mann is packed with hotels so don't even bother going near this one. Pathetic !

Room Tip: Don't accept a smaller room - they have reasonable twin rooms but will shove you in the extensio...

Hotel is situated at far end of prom, 20 minutes walk from town. Interior is tired. Rear facing rooms are subject to noise of fans all night. I demanded to be moved from the broom cupboard room and was sent down to Sefton Hotel which is much smarter.
