we stayed at The Great Western last week for a few days. we celebrated our wedding anniversay.
when we returned one day, Housekeeping had popped a few small bottles of wine with a lovely message in our room. it was a lovely thing for them to do. but all the staff were fab. from the Reception Team, helping with information on the Island. and booking us taxis. To the Restaurant staff, where nothing was too much trouble. same goes for the bar staff. We are definately returning here soon. loved it loved it loved it!

Room Tip: just ask for a sea view :)

As one of our other hotel chains keeps telling us, the main purpose of a hotel is to provide a good night's sleep, but this is where the Palace fell down. Our room at the back got the afternoon sun, so even in May it got quite hot. As usual in a safety obsessed world, the window opened only a little. That let some heat out, but let a lot of noise in from the many air conditioning units on the flat roof outside. That was tolerable, but the shouting, screaming and singing outside reception until 3am was not. Smokers and people waiting for taxis presumably. Having a casino and nightclub on the premises has a downside. Otherwise it was a good hotel, clean room, good breakfast, the usual polite, efficient East European staff. The free internet worked fine, but was the slightly irritating type that wants you to log in every time your device wakes up. Another minor failure was that the signal to all the TVs failed some time on (cup final) Saturday afternoon until some time on Sunday. The location on the promenade was good, with some good, medium price restaurants within about a mile. The car park was adequate, at least at this time of year. In conclusion, a good place to stay if you are high up, at the opposite end from reception, or pay the extra for a sea view and a room at the front.

Room Tip: Get a room at the front or at the end furthest from reception (or bring earplugs)

We stayed at Best Western Palace Casino on the Promenade in Douglas, and we had a wonderful time. All the staff we had dealings with were really good and very helpful. For example, printing our boarding cards off for us. The food and service were excellent, nothing was too much trouble. I highly reccommend the kippers for breakfast, they were delicious. We did'nt actually try the casino but the hotel seemed very busy and really popular.

Got the Palace as an add on offered by an airline booking database. Mmm. Room was 414 at the back of the hotel overlooking the carpark. Now I'm not expecting a romantic sea view for a twin room on the cheap. It was Friday night and the issue was the noise as the car park was used by smokers from the bar/nightclub/who cares until 01.30 and chucking out at 4am.

With the window open (no aircon and a radiator that would not go off) there was not a lot of sleep.

That apart it was a reasonably modern hotel that ticked boxes. In Douglas that is the distinction- proper hotel v guesthouse. This is a proper hotel and on the right day in the right way could be good.

The other disappointment was the restaurant. Remember this hotel is well away from the high street so alternatives are not that walkable. However for a 4* hotel I do expect table service rather than a carvery. I suppose carvery echoes the slightly dated concrete architecture. Still it was OK.

Room Tip: On Friday get the seafront if you want some sleep

Thank you for taking the time to submit a review and for your constructive feedback. We are sorry to hear that your sleep was disrupted due to noise from the car park. Our Club is open on a Friday and Saturday night and as you can imagine, despite our best efforts, it is not always easy to monitor the noise level from our guests. We have noted your comment regarding the radiator and have asked our maintenance team to look into this - please accept our apologies. Thank you again for your feedback.

The outside of the hotel is not particularly pleasing but inside was immaculate. The staff were helpful and friendly. We had a room with a sea view and really enjoyed hearing the sea late at night (the traffic pretty much died down to nothing after 10pm). We did stay midweek however - it may be noisier at weekends.

The room was very clean with a comfy bed and all the usual facilities. We would happily stay again.

Added bonus of a casino gave a bit extra to do and the bar/restaurant attached to the hotel was reasonably priced and the food was good!

Book a room with a sea view - it's worth the extra. Staff at breakfast were great and couldn't have been more accommodating. Reception and bar staff were good too. The hotel is at the far end of town from the marina where many of the restaurants are but it's not too far to walk or a short cab ride away. The gym is small but quite well equipped. The pool overlooks the sea which is nice. The exterior, lack of investment and sense of arrival are by far the worst aspects of the hotel, which is a real shame. Hence the Average score.

Room Tip: Choose a sea view room - or you'll be overlooking the car park.
