I followed the signs to the museum from the main shopping street and almost gave up after climbing lots of steps and ending up in a multi story car park. The signing is not clear. Eventually I found my way there and was glad that I had persevered. The only disappointing part of the museum was the area dedicated to the TT races, there were only 5 motorcycles from the early days and not really a lot about it. The part played by Manx people during the 2 World Wars was excellently displayed with interesting write ups and artifacts. The history of the Isle of Man was also very interesting as was the geology with a great number of specimens. Unfortunately I was rather late arriving at the museum and didn't have time to do it justice but what I saw was very interesting and when I next visit the island I will certainly visit it again and make sure I have plenty of time to do it.
Paul Hope.

This museum is an excellent overview of life on the Isle of Man from the distant past to more recent times. The galleries are well laid out and the information signs are clear and concise. I am very interested in transport on the IOM and the preserved horse tram was an excellent exhibit. It was a bit difficult to find the museum, my route from Douglas Promenade involved going up a multi story car park and across a bridge and further up a hill until I found it. Once inside however I felt that the effort was worth it. I can thoroughly recommend this museum to anyone interested in the history of the Isle of Man.

Very interesting place to visit, there is a lot of old memories of the Manx steam railway. Old coach and locomotive plus booking office memorabilia. The staff there are very helpful if you want or need further information. You are not time bound you can stay for as long or short time as you wish.
