Great friendly family run business with helpful staff. Bar meals or restaurant available, food is excellent. When away from home on business this is a great hotel where it easy to meet similar people.
Two minutes from the prom and ideally placed to drive to all parts of the island.

Room Tip: For a few pounds more ask for a sea view.

Some of the rooms are named after race courses or horses. I was in Newbury with a view past neighbouring buildings to the sea. Plenty of clothes storage space, both drawers and wardrobe with lots of hangers. Large comfortable bed and good-sized bathroom with the aforementioned spa bath - bliss at the end of a cold, sighseeing day. There was a desk/dressingtable with a well-lit mirror, ideal for applying makeup. The lighting in the bathroom was also good but the bedroom lighting was abysmal - dreadful spotlights and bedside lights with such dark shades that no light escaped. The wi-fi (free) worked well in the bedroom.

The staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfasts good. I cannot really comment on the dinner menu as I was with a group and we had a separate menu.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the front

I would like to say that we were treated very well at the Ascot Hotel on a recent stay - our room was excellent if not a little too hot, and the breakfast very good. All the staff made us most welcome and nothing appeared to be any trouble.

Like a lot of the older hotels in the Isle of Man, the decor in this hotel is slightly dated but don't let that put you off .We had a triple room that was exceptionally big with flat screen tv, trouser press, tea/coffee making facilities and jacuzzi bath ! Breakfast is good and you can either choose from the hot buffet or have it cooked to your liking. There are also cereals, juices, yogurts etc to choose from. For those that don't want to venture too far, there are evening meal options for hotel guests and a small and friendly hotel bar. The Ascot also has a lift, which a lot of the older hotels don't.

Location is one block back from Central Prom ,so if your driving it's a bit easier to get parking (street parking) near the hotel once you don't mind a lot of hills. If your on foot it's about 20mins walk from the ferry terminal.

Room Tip: If your a light sleeper get a room at the back of the hotel as the front rooms take in the noise of...

I've stayed in many many places in the Isle of Man and the Ascot was a bit of a revelation. While the rooms were fairly standard in terms of facilities and age of the contents, the cleanliness of the place was just outstanding. I stayed in off-peak too so you come to expect a bit less based on experience but the Ascot showed a level of cleanliness that you don't often enjoy, the attention to detail was perfect. In addition the staff couldn't help us enough and the food, particularly the breakfast, was also excellent. A little gem of a hotel...

To start with had to wait ages at reception for the receptionist to actual appear, had requested a smoking room but didn't get that. When we got to our room is was BOILING! had to turn down all the heaters but even then it was too hot and couldn't open the window because of all the noise outside from the nearby bar and drunkards singing. Tried to get to sleep but couldn't because it was too hot then the person in the room above us decided to stomp around for half an hour (this was at 12am!) After almost an hour and a half of trying to get to sleep we gave up and went to reception to maybe request moving to a room at the back of the hotel where it would be quieter but yet again..........NO RECEPTIONIST! Waited at reception for a good 15 minutes and eventually gave up because we couldn't find one member of staff to talk to about our room,we left the hotel. Won't be staying again!

Room Tip: Don't bother

I stayed with my partner for 2 nights and was more than pleased with the experience, Although a basic hotel it was very clean and the staff were a real credit, ever so helpful, friendly and attentive doing everything they could to make your stay as comfortable as possible. The room was large and included tea making, hair dryer, flat screen TV and a jacuzzi bath amongst other things. The WiFi was free and worked perfectly well in our room. I cannot comment on the food as I didnt eat there but plenty were seen using the restaurant. The hotel is a stones throw away from the beach and a short walk to the main town. A highly recommended venue and a big thanks to all the staff-I would have no hesitation returning.

Room Tip: We stayed in the "Ledger" room. It was roomy and quiet. The view wasnt great but I didnt s...
