Stayed 2 nights for TT weekend wanted 3 nights but could not get in due to demand, originaly only managed to get one night booked but cancelation allowed us the 2nd night, unfortunately booked late so could only get a double to share with my mate, however very friendly and helpfull reception staff arranged for us to have an available twin room for our first night with a swap to the double for our second night, twin had a great sea view, double not as nice but was comfy and 1000 times better than our original alternative of a tent or a park bench!!
Breakfast great (Manx Kippers for me full English for my mate both good).
Location is a 5-10 walk to town centre but nice and quite due to this, bus stop directly opposite if you don't want the walk.
Stayed at another more expensive hotel for our first night, for next years TT we will book early and try and get in the Hydro again, some freindly fellow guests chatting in the well priced bar told us they had been comming to the TT for over 10 years and stayed at the Hydro on each occasion, I can see why, it is not a Chelsea buteque hotel it is a freindly, comfortable, clean honest (does what it says on the tin) hotel that me and my mate will be very pleased to go back too for another TT weekend.

A recently visited the Isle of Man with friends, celebrating the impending marriage of a friend. We stayed at the Hydro, in Douglas. The hotel had been booked by one of the other members of the party and was inclusive of the ferry crossing, the total being £130 for return fares and accommodation.

We arrived on the later boat, but this wasn't a problem for the hotel. Check in was quick and without hassle. I had a double room, which although a little small, had everything you needed. The decor was maybe a little dated, in the room, but it was comfortable and very clean. The room had Tea & Coffee making facilities as well as flat screen TV and plenty of plug sockets. The room was ensuite and the Bathroom was a nice surprise. The door seemed quite small into the bathroom and I though it may have also been a little on the small size, however, the door opened in to a nice sized bathroom with a shower & plenty of hot water!

Breakfast was good. There was plenty of choice including branded cereals, toast, a traditional fried breakfast, porridge and of course the Manx breakfast of Kippers. I tried both the kippers and the fried breakfast during my stay and both were very pleasant. The staff serving were very polite and helpful.

The hotel had a nice looking bar and lounge, although I didn't actually use these facilities.

The location of the hotel is on the front in Douglas, so everything is in fairly close proximity. The hotel is down the far end of the prom., away from the ferry terminal, but don't let that put you off. If you are able bodied the walk from the terminal to the hotel is about 10 mins, along the flat and well paved prom. If you have mobility issues there are plenty of taxis and busses which run along the front, and should be fairly inexpensive. Being at the end of the prom that it is, the hotel is close to the Electric railway, which offers a trip to Laxey, Ramsay or the summit Snaefell for a reasonable cost, but with fantastic views of the exceptional IOM coast. Indeed, on a clear day you will be able to view Ireland, Nothern Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales from the summit of Snaefell.

I would recommend this hotel to you if you are planning a short trip to the Isle of Man.

We have just returned from a week at this hotel with Just Go Coach Holidays with 48 others. We had a small but comfortable room with a side sea view, ensuite shower and bath and flat screen TV, and tea and coffee making. The hotel is old and does need some refurbishing in some of the communal areas. The staff are very helpful and friendly and went out of their way to help if required. The food was adequate with a good choice for breakfast and dinner ( recommend the kippers - delicious). Excellent location on sea front between the centre of Douglas and steam railway one way, and the Electric Manx Railway to Laxey/Ramsey the other way. On two evenings the hotel arranged singers for our entertainment, both of which were excellent. All in all, a very enjoyable stay.

Lovely friendly hotel, very clean, staff extremely helpful, great location for my son to gain access to the transport network that he loves. Initially, a little disappointed to have a room at the back of the hotel but had booked last minute, however it was lovely and big and bright and very quiet so it was not a problem.

Stayed here from 24-26th Feb 2012 for a weekend. Room was very small for a en-suite twin, en-suite looked as if it had been built into an old walk in closet. Shower leaked, there was 2 bedside lamps wired into same plug with the cable joined with a block connector wrapped in black tape. Room generally clean but had a musty smell to it.
Breakfast was very poor quality with the food appearing to be cooked the night before and heated in the morning, however the bacon was semi raw and cold, staff who we met were friendly but a weekend stay here was enough i would not stay here for any longer
