Big rooms. Beautiful views. Easy walks on the sea promenade, and close to restaurants. TV in the shower too. Lux breakfast. A winner at 170 sterling a nite. Lovely lobby. Classy classical furniture, friendly staff, At all hours of the day. I recommend

Firstly, the hotel is exquisitely situated on the Douglas seafront, less than 5 minutes from the ferry terminal and very near the terminus of the horse drawn tram - slow but quaint and very useful! We were courteously greeted on our arrival although no-one offered to take our bags. The hotel occupies what at one time would have been several properties and is a little like a rabbit warren. We had a luxury package which included a la carte dinner, bed and breakfast and a business class room. Our room was large with two armchairs in addition to a working desk and was well appointed The bathroom with a large bath, a double basin and a large stand-alone shower was simply superb. There is, however, a design fault in that there were literally no drawers in the room despite there being plenty available space If fault there be, there is no air-conditioning in the bedrooms and, with the room facing the front, there was the choice between closing the windows for peace and being too hot or keeping them open and facing up to the noise. The promenade at times was very noisy with ordinary traffic, late-night revellers and tiny-brained bikers who think they are being clever by revving up their disgusting machines!
Breakfast was excellent as were the evening meals although the menu was the same every day - could there not be some sort of rotation of menus? The house wine was reasonably priced at £15 per bottle and was, to my unsophisticated palate, more than adequate. The portions were large - perhaps too large. The bar area was excellently laid out and appointed although the piped music was rubbish and the air-conditioning was perhaps too strong.
Our package was for three nights and we had to move for the fourth. We had a problem with the new room but on approaching the reception we were smoothly allocated another wholly satisfactory room. The sorting out of problems like this is the sign of a good hotel. In fact all the staff whom we encountered were without exception helpful and pleasant and a credit to the hotel.
Jut one final point. Our e-mail instructions on finding the hotel told us to turn LEFT from the ferry terminal onto the promenade. This was codswallop. This may (or may not!) be the route for cars but it is certainly not the pedestrian route which is STRAIGHTFORWARD onto the promenade. I hope that the hotel might alter their instructions to make this clear as there are still people who arrive on foot and we initially lost our way and bearings by going left. Nevertheless, overall, we had a good stay in a pleasant environment and I would recommend the hotel. The island itself is very interesting and is well worth a visit

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the promenade may be larger and better equipped - although undoubtedly you will pay more.

We spent 3 nights in this hotel on a recent visit to the Isle of Man. The location is the best thing about it, although the reception and downstairs area's are nicely done out. Then it was down hill, our room was in the back of the hotel via a series of corridors and stairs with a outlook on to a flat roof across a alley way. The room was small, as was the en-suite. The bed we had was 2 singles put together and the mattress on my side had seen better days. Luckily we didn't spent much time in the room as it was nothing special. Breakfast was very good with a nice view of Douglas bay. Parking was out the front on the road, we always found a spot and was free after 5pm.

Very good hotel only a short stroll from the ferry terminal, and handy for local shops and amenities.
It would have earned five stars had it not been for the maze of rooms as this hotel has obviously expanded over the years into adjoining properties.
Very well appointed with excellent food available, however our room was unbearably hot, admittedly due to seasonably hot weather. The room was situated at the rear of the building and suffered from a lot of early morning noise from deliveries etc
Apart from this it would be a five star recommendation
