I recently stayed in the Rutland Hotel on a short break with my daughter. The positives include very, very friendly and efficient staff. They knew their job and provided excellent customer service. The refurbishement of the hotel was excellent, our room was pleasant, well decorated, and spotless. The shower was great with superb room service. The breakfast was adequate, with a good choice of both hot and cold, but not that imaginative, fresh fruit rather than tinned would have been nice. The communal areas were a bit ordinary.

I payed £50 per night for a twin room on a b&b basis. At that rate it represented great value for money and I would happily stay there again.

Room Tip: We were at the back, where most of the rooms are. There is some noise from fans, but we found it tol...

Just returned from two night break at the Rutland. Lovely hotel, spotlessly clean, staff friendly and buffet breakfast excellent!! Little bit out of town - £3 taxi ride (or horse drawn tram). Douglas not the most exciting place to stay I have to say, very quiet, not a lot to do, expecially when the weather not up to much. If I ever did go back to Douglas I would not hesitate to stay at the Rutland. Two nice local restaurants - Jaks, and Harbour Lights - both worth a visit.

Room Tip: 112 - front, sea view and a balcony off the bathroom!!

We stayed here as part of a group tour and had a good stay. Bedrooms were fairly large and clean as were the bathrooms, bed was good size but very squeaky. Towels were clean and fluffy but very frayed edges really tatty I would suggest a new laundry! We were on the 2nd floor in a quiet room the fans on the ground floor could be heard but ok however the whole hotel was soooo hot, don't know why because the weather wasn't hot and sunny. Everyone was the same. The ground floor is not a very friendly area, fairly basic decor and the bar staff also manages reception so you could be waiting for a drink for a while. The food was ok but vegetables very unimaginative(peas, carrots and swede for every dinner) staff cleared away very well and breakfast was very good. All in all if the price suits I would recommend this hotel.

Other negative comments on this hotel can be confirmed by me, I have just returned from this hotel after a 3 night stay. The staff were friendly (not over) BUT THE HEAT ON THE 4th Floor is terrible they have provided fans which help a little. You can feel the bed springs through the bedding also, new beds are required. as Rita F has also made a comment on the noise we can confirm the noise is the extractor fans starting up around 5.35 am.
We had one evening meal which was very bland with un-cooked peas and green beans, give it a miss.
One lift which will hold a max of 3 persons or 2 with some luggage!!
Only if you have no other option stay in this hotel.

Room Tip: Don't have a 4th floor room, better still find another hotel. Only coach tours get the lower flo...

Management response:Responded 12 July 2012

Thank you for the review of the Rutland Hotel. We are sorry that you were disappointed with certain aspects of your stay with us, particularly the issues you raise with regard to the hotel's heating. We would like to apologise for the discomfort you experienced. We are aware of these issues and will be addressing them as required. The weather is naturally very changeable and during summer it can get warmer in the hotel, however have now sourced a supply of electrical fans for any guests who may on occasion appreciate these. Thank you for your kind words regarding our friendly staff, which are very much appreciated.

I had the pleasure of staying for 12 days in March {fabulous weather for 11 days Snow on the last}. My 88 yr old mother and I had a back room on the third floor, I was a bit worried abouit the FANS but they didn't disturb us. The room was hot but a desk fan was supplied. The first three days we seemed to be the only patrons but as the weekend came the coaches arrived. This didn't really affect the service as extra staff were employed. ALL the staff we met were great. All in all a very pleasant experience at a very reasonable price.
