We booked the Rutland at the last minute, and we were pleasantly surpirsed to be upgraded to a larger double room with a sea view. The staff were plesant, but the barman was runing out the door at about 10pm leaving the bar unmaned and no mention of how we could get another drink if we wanted one.
The breakfast was self services and I would recomend tryign to arrive before the large coach parties. The usual full English was availble on the self service bain maries, but the fruit juices tasted watered down and bacon was rather salty for my taste.
All said and done we would stay here agian it was a good base, clean and tidy although I would take a tin of WD40 to oil the fire door on the first floor adjacent to our room. ;-)

Room Tip: Go for the sea view.

My wife and I stayed at the Rutland on a GB Tours holiday for 4 nights from 16th April. This was our second visit to the hotel. A thorough restoration had taken place since last year and the decor was excellent. Our room [104] was an executive suite and was excellent in every way. We looked forward to our meals every day and thought them to be excellent. The staff were very efficient and our room was kept immaculate. The hotel is very conveniently placed along the front.I can thoroughly recommend the Rutland and we look forward to another visit.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 104 on the front overlooking the bay. There was no traffic noise. An excellent cho...

My wife and I recently stayed in the Rutland Hotel for 3 nights as part of a brief coach trip to the Isle of Man. I must admit to expecting a 'coach' type hotel well worn, tired and in dire need of a lick of paint. We were very pleasantly surprised when we arrived at The Rutland and were welcomed by helpful staff into and excellent hotel.
There is nothing fancy about The Rutland, no marble reception area with fountains playing, no gym, no pool - who needs all that and who wants to pay for all that? The location is excellent right on the sea front, our room was large and had a sea view (for which we paid extra), able to sleep four with an up to date en-suite. The whole hotel was in very good decorative order, far better than many hotels offering more stars and higher prices. The food was good and politely served. We asked for an iron and there was a member of staff, with iron in hand at the door almost as soon as we put the phone down.
When we left, the staff waved us goodbye from the steps of the hotel - a nice final touch.
Only downside was, as someone else mentioned, there are quite steep steps up to the main entrance which some less able people may find difficult.
Thank your Rutland for a most enjoyable stay!!

Room Tip: Worth paying a little extra for a good sea view room

I booked this hotel after reading previous reviews and can honestly say we weren't disappointed. Friendly helpful staff for whom nothing was too much trouble. I have a food allergy and Aaron the chef went to great lengths to ensure I could eat what I wanted.
Would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and would like to return in the future.

Holiday in Isle of Man enhanced by our stay at this hotel. From being greeted by staff waiting at the door on the Sunday evening to help unload the coach and take cases to the rooms to the time we left, we were made welcome, and staff at all times were attentive, always ready to help and pleasant at all times. What a team!
Location of the Rutland on the main promenade meant that for those who might find the walk into Douglas a little difficult would be well served by buses and the notice board listed the bus times.
Surprised really that it is only 3 star rated as accommodation was very good. Food was well cooked, though maybe some would say it was not varied enough for them though my wife and I were pleased with choice available. People requiring gluten free alternatives were catered for.
There was some entertainment provided on two nights. The first night was a singer but with several people tired after the journey, there was not a good audience but that is not the fault of the hotel. the second night's entertainer provided an evening with small quizzes , and repartee, with small prizes too
There was a problem with hairdryer in our room not working and as it was a Bank Holiday the problem could not be solved instantly but on Tuesday when shops opened, a brand new hairdryer was put in the room for our use, and that impressed us.
Only problem really with the actual hotel is the steepness of the entrance steps, difficult for those who are not so mobile.

Very enjoyable stay, enhanced by GB Tours' excellent organisation. The hotel was well maintained, room cleanliness commendable and the staff attentive, courteous and ever ready to help. Food served was well cooked, though evening meal menus could be said to lack imagination and variety. Steep steps leading to the main entrance would cause difficulties for those with mobility issues. If mobility allows, it is feasible to walk into the shopping area from the hotel; it would take 20 - 25 minutes. Buses to the shops, and further, leave from almost opposite the hotel.

Room Tip: We had an executive, very spacious, sea-facing room with a very large bathroom (Room 104). Not aware...

Stayed here for 4 nights with GB Tours. Rooms are very modern and well equipped. The food was excellent on bb and evening meal basis. The staff were very welcoming and pleasant. Stayed in room 105 which has a sea view. Suprised that its listed as 3star should be higher in my opinion. Although it was listed as a short break, it was a very full schedule that covered the whole island.

Room Tip: Sea view room 105 106
