I stayed at the Regency for one night on business. I arrived mid evening, and was greeted by a very surly and unsmiling receptionist, who may be one of the owners. Signing in was accomplished without a smile or any dialogue. I was told how to find my way to the room, and encountered the antique lift which has just enough room for one person and a case. Any more would require several trips.
However, the room was large, quiet, clean with good internet access and a DVD.
The hotel displays a quirky policy over breakfast. There is no buffet, only waiter service. This does not lend itself to a quick getaway, but would be OK if you have time to relax.
Paying the bill was a repeat of the signing in experience, with the same unsmiling, but efficient receptionist. No small talk, like 'did you enjoy your stay?' etc.
It did represent reasonable value for money, but could be so much better with more emphasis on customers' total experience.
