“Best Establishment in Ramsey”
Reviewed 17 February 2014

Have frequented this place for over a year now and have never walked out disappointed. The whole menu is excellent with good home cooked food at reasonable prices served quickly and pleasantly.

A great choice for breakfast, lunch or afternoon tea with lovely people running the place. Can't recommend the place highly enough.

“Great find”
Reviewed 16 December 2013

We were somewhat underwhelmed by the choice of places to have lunch in Ramsey - there were three families with six children between us. We stumbled into this place almost by accident, luckily we were able to get some tables together as another group was just leaving. What a great cafe menu with a good variety - everyone found something they liked including a couple of fussy adults! The food was good 'home fayre', well presented and no-one was disappointed! Great value too. A 'high street' cafe with a bit of character.....

“Fantastic, surprising little place”
Reviewed 1 November 2013

We happened to stop by on a break from watching the racing during TT week. We were looking for cakes and tea in a lovely place and, to our pleasant surprise we found a very clean, cozy, classy, full-menu restaurant - in addition to lovely cakes and teas.

Run by the very sweet and talented Eva from Bulfgaria the menu feature delicious, healthy daily specials and a variety of traditional Manx/British fare ranging from fish & chips to meat pies, salads and sandwiches. We enjoyed the food, location, atmosphere, as well as Eva's and her mate's hospitality so much we returned five times that week! It is reasonably priced and good for lunch, dinner, afternoon tea, or a snack (and open fairly late).

Specifically, we had excellent coffee and tea, lemon cake which was a delicious generous portion, fluffy and not oversweet; Cross buns which were moist and delicious, Fish & Chips which were simply the best in town - with a flavorful batter, high quality fish, with great chips - properly sized and not greasy at all....Ace!!! We also stopped for takeaway sandwiches twice during the racing and they were, although simply English cheese sandwiches, superb!

Eva does cakes and other pastries for special oocassions and, from waht we could see from her photos (and not only photos of her cakes grace the walls. Eva is a talented photographer and many beautiful Manx and other landscapes from interesting and creative prespectives adorn the walls), they were creative, often funny, and beautiful! Although we didn't order any, I am sure they are as delicious as everything else.

So, do yourself and your loved ones a favor and please go see Eva at The Mad Hatter and go early in your trip and often. Both your palate and pocketbook with be very happy!

“Really tasty homemade fresh food”
Reviewed 21 September 2013

My big gripe about IOM is the lack of good food at sensible prices..... at last a restaurant with both of these. Would be nice if they moved down south so I could go more often! Agree with OneK60 that the one revelations is that the food is really home made and really tasty.

“Great Little Caf'”
Reviewed 17 August 2013

This is a great little caf', I shouldn't really be telling you about it, as right now it's one of those places for those 'in the know'.

The Mad Hatter is bright, clean and cheery, it's staff are friendly without it feeling forced. But the revelation.......is that the food really is home made, and it's good. The fishcakes with chilli jam (that I had) were made in the kitchen, not in some industrial unit in Grimsby, and the same rings true of their whole menu.

This is not a deep fried sausages and chips with everything kind of place - and it's all the better for it, having said that, if you do want chips, then their chips are great............

Go try it, but don't tell too many people......
