Recommended length of visit: 1-2 hours
Owner description: The Grove Museum of Victorian Life was developed in the mid 19th century by the Liverpool shipping merchant Duncan Gibb as a summer retreat for himself and his family.Later, the Victorian villa became the family's permanent residence and family home and a visit to the Grove is like stepping back in time. You'll find a series of period rooms, containing mostly original furnishings and fittings, a costume room, and displays of the possessions of three generations. There's also the opportunity to view the outbuildings, which would have served the substantial adjoining farmland, with agricultural equipment including a restored horse-powered threshing mill on display.Step out into the gardens and you'll be able to see the bees making honey or have a game of croquet on the lawn. Sit and relax in the Conservatory or enjoy a picnic in the Grove's gardens. There is also a museum shop on site.

This museum of Victorian life in the Isle of Man is well worth a visit if you are in the Ramsay area. Tea in the garden was very enjoyable and the house most interesting

“'Never forget the past'”
Reviewed 14 April 2014 via mobile

I live in Port St. Mary on the island and have never been to the Grove Museum. My late mother and grandfather were born in Ramsey, as well as my aunties and uncles. To visit here was a mind stirring event.
I had a good chat with the lady who explained about the family that lived here.
Well worth seeing part of our past and how a well off family would have conducted their daily life. It was quite amusing when children visiting, asked where the television was.
I hold a Manx Heritage pass, so i will be coming here again to learn a bit more, visit the tearoom and take a few more photos.

“A step back in time...”
Reviewed 8 January 2014

Open the doors and your in the world of the by-gone-era of the turn of the last century. The Gibb family home is as if they have just left it, to go to town. This is a must on your trip to the Island. If you like ghosts this may be the place for you... the house has a few !!! Lovely teas in the tea-room as well. This is one of my favourite places to visit on the Isle of Man.

“A trip into another world, from a time long gone and well worth a visit.”
Reviewed 26 November 2013

the family who made this place home ended with the death of two unmarried daughters , who left the property to the Manx Heritage society who turned the whole place into a museum. The rooms are set out in the traditional victorian style , with carriages and farm machinery in the barns. The gift shop sells local crafts and there is also a tea room for refreshments. A very good day out in Ramsey.
