“Wow! what a great place to stay”
Reviewed 2 November 2013

Just spent four nights here while visiting family in the area.
The staff are so friendly and couldn't be more helpful.
The room (14) was comfortable and clean, the bathroom spacious.
The breakfast is fantastic, great food and very attentive staff.
This was our second stay at The Royal Hotel and we wouldn't stay anywhere else.
We are recommending it to our family and friends.
Thank you so much to Julie and all the staff.

We had a wonderful stay at the Royal Hotel this weekend. Location is great, room was huge, very comfortable, spotless and well decorated. Breakfast was exceptional and all the staff extremely friendly helpful and informative. We would definitely stay there again and will recommend to friends and family. Would also recommend the Divanti restaurant next door the food and service is first class. Thanks to everyone.

The room stank of suwage from bathroom which you couldnt get in to have a shower as it was that small .there wad noway of filling a kettle for tea/coffee as sink to small. Very little room to walk around beds. The windows not correctly fitted so drafty and extremly cold. The rooms ad terrible the staff however are lovely.
The parking is badly thought out could be made easier.
Food looked ok I didnt try breakfast looked good but was average.
Would I go again. NO would I recommend NO.

me and me partner stayed at this hotel on the 26/10/13 and as we have 4 kids it was just a 1 night stay to get some piece and quiet from screaming kids ,, this was our first night in hotel and for the price thought it was good ,, so when we got there wiated about 15 mins before being seen ,, that was just the start ,, we got to our room which was number 14 and decided to make a cup a coffee for us both ,, and then the kettle woudnt come on so i phoned reception and no answer as they were showing other people to there rooms ,, but then we relised the kettle wasnt broken it was the actual wall socket so had to use the other socket for it to work ,, so our first thoughts were small room but it was ok for 1 night ,, bathroom smells clean and fresh ,, but after a couple of hours that fresh distenfecting smell had gone from the bathroom and left a horrible sewer smell ,, as if somebody had just used the tiolet for a number 2 .. and smell was a nightmare .

anyway went for meal and and had some drinks ,, and by this time 22.20 we dicided to head back to hotel and get some sleep as we were absolutly knackered from me bieng woke up at 6.30 and me partner was woke up at 4.30am the day before we went to the hotel ,, so we really need to get some kip ,,
this didnt happen due to our room being situted under the resaurant down stairs ,, you could here the pans and people having conversations , laughing ,, and these noises werent quiet , anything but ,, it sounded like if you put to metal bin lids to gether and clang them thats what it sounded like , and there is no way i could sleep throu that ,, so i phoned the porter to see if we could be moved and quess what all rooms were full so we were stuck and we had to wiat for the restaurant staff to finish there cleaning which would of been 23.00 hrs ,, not good news ..
so basically i had enough i couldnt take it no more so i told me partner iam going home and the taxi cost £25 to get back as we had missed the metro home ,,
to round everything off i phoned the manageress the next day ,, and told her what had happened and why i didnt enjoy my stay ,, and alos the the horrible smell in the bathroom ,, and my reply to this was ,, that she coudnt smell any odours ,, ( LIE ) and thought it could be the drians outside ,, even thou we had no windows open ,, and theres no window in the bathroom ,,
plus i was told from mangeress that the noise was the restaurant ,, and basically i had to put up with it ,, even thou we wanted some where quiet ,, anything but quiet ,,
so mangeress apoligesed for the noise which didnt make it any better after paying for something your not getting ,, and the manger didnt offer me a refund ,, but did offer me another night in the hotel free ,, which wasnt for me ,, because i wouldnt go back even when its free , just have to learn from my mistake ,, and i hope people read this and think twice before you go there ,, as for the other rooms i dont know what they are like but i do know room 14 is the 1 to avoid ,, and if your not happy for any reason dont expect a refund ,, because its not going to happen ,, and niether will you sleep properly unless you wiate for the restaurant to close after 23.00..

good points ,, i liked the staff they were friendly ,, food dont know because i didnt stay long enough to have anything including my breakfast that was part of the deal ,, , but since i have read other peoples comments ,, alot of them is sleep 0 points ,, and thats not good ,, just wished i read these comments before i made my choice of hotels ,,
PLEASE DONT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE AS I DONE ,, READ THE REVIEWS FIRST

Hotel chosen from internet after reading reviews. Totally lived up to expectations - staff went out of their way to be helpful - from the receptionist to all the waiting on staff. Lovely breakfast - high standard - freshly produced. I have breakfasted in many hotels and this hotel did not disappoint - excellent service and food. Rooms clean and adequate for our requirements. Would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.

Very friendly, helpful staff. Excellent breakfast choice available. The hotel was spotless. A really lovely place to stay, I would definitely recommend The Royal Hotel and would love to stay again.
Good transport links to Newcastle, just 20 mins away. The Metro train service is a great way to get around and see Newcastle and surrounding areas.

Room Tip: The double suite we stayed in was excellent with great sea views.
