firstly great staff great breakfast. downside the toilet: in room 3 it was really too small and badly situated : a larger person would struggle to fit! the view of the derelict house in the back lane not great and sorry but the wifi was almost non-existant. not really top dollar as the price would suggest

The place was very clean.. However the Internet connection signal was weak and we had to use it in the breakfast room and the shower continuously clogged up where you had to repeatedly flush the toilet to get the shower to drain

Otherwise ok.

June 14th I took my three 5 year old grandchildren for an overnight stay. Plan was to get away from the World Cup. The Metropolitan was a brilliant choice. Our room had a double and two singles. Lovely bathroom, with two hand basins which the kids thought was mega brill. The welcome we received on arrival from Steve was lovely, the kids warmed to him instantly. Everything about our stay was very good, comfortable room, breakfast, friendly atmosphere. cannot give this hotel enough praise. It was the first time I had taken my littlies on an overnight stay on my own. This wonderful hotel has given me the confidence to do that again. Definitely a lovely place to stay.

We have just checked out of this superb bed and breakfast where we spent 2 nights in the family room. It must have been good as this is the first time that I have ever written a review!

The room was wonderful; a huge room which could have accommodated 6 (we were 5) whole of the top floor with a compact but well equipped ensuite shower room with luxuriously thick white towels & gorgeously fragranced products.

The owners have thought of everything; a good supply of teas, coffee, hot chocolate sachets in room with good quality biscuits; hairdryer, shoe polish, clothes brush & ironing board/iron available; drawers lined with paper which is a map of the local coast line; a hanging rail cleverly housed in an alcove with plenty of hangers & a hook on back of bathroom door (amazing how many places don't have); comfortable beds & decor all very contemporary & a black and white theme.

The breakfasts......well, think we can safely say these were the best we've ever had when staying in a b&b or hotel. A great variety of fresh fruit, home-made granola, individual boxes of kelloggs cereals (which our children loved), fruit juices & yoghurts to start. There followed a choice from full English breakfast (choice of eggs, bacon, sausages, hash browns, mushrooms, vine tomatoes & baked beans), kedgeree with poached egg, kipper paté, smoked salmon with scrambled eggs on a muffin all washed down with a choice of teas or coffee. If you had room, there was toast & a choice of jams/honey/marmalade!!!

Would thoroughly recommend this place - not surprised it has won so many awards for an excellent place to stay in Tyne & Weir.

I stayed here this week and was really impressed. I loved the décor and the rooms were clean and comfortable. I had a single room which was small but well designed, with everything you need. My daughter had a double and was delighted with it. Steve is friendly and professional and manages the breakfast schedule really well with pre-ordering and the choice at breakfast was good including kedgeree. TV was good quality and the Wi-Fi worked perfectly. All in all, this is a lovely place to stay, well-located and good value.

Room Tip: be prepared for seagulls!
