“WARM HOTEL, FRIENDLY STAFF”
Reviewed 15 January 2014

We stayed at the Hotel for two weekends, one straight before Christmas and one straight after the New Year. The staff were very welcoming on both occasions, giving helpful advice and providing it in an informative but light hearted and humorous way. I got the impression that they would help in any way. The hotel was clean and very, very warm. The beds were very comfortable and we enjoyed good sleeps. The breakfasts were of a very high standard. Some parts of the hotel are looking a little tired, decoratively speaking, and a tap in the bathroom was a bit of a challenge one morning but this in no way detracted from the overall impression we had. I will be using this hotel again.

stayed here for a weekend in November 2013 for a friends birthday. the three of us booked a room online - a 3 bedded room - however when we got there, we were given the wrong room, but the hotel staff were more than happy to upgrade us and make sure we got our money back. the rooms were sufficient, large and very cosy, we found that they were too warm during the night.
Great location - right on the seafront and directly in the middle of all the bars and fast-food restaurants.
the bathroom was gorgeous! plenty of space for the 3 of us.
they even had Freeview! we found that depending where you were in the hotel you could get the wifi in your room.
we didn't have any maid service in our room as we turned them away every morning, we would rather clean up ourselves.
we enjoyed our stay that much that we booked another two days on top of the 3 days we already had. partly because we enjoyed whitley bay and the hotel and partly because we were too hung-over to make the 5 hour journey home!

the night staff were brilliant, so much banter! still good friends with them now, we are looking to go back later on in the year, maybe when its a bit warmer

Just back from a 2 nights stay at The Windsor. Very central for shops and Metro and very close to the seafront. I have to say for what we paid it was excellent value for money.
We stayed in room 46 which was very spacious. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly and recommended the restaurant which we booked on our first night.
First impressions were good but then my husband found a sticky lolly on the wooden arm of his chair and I noticed the radiator had not been cleaned someone had spilt some coffee or tea down it.
The bathroom had the advantage of a separate bath and shower but no soap for bath and on closer inspection lots of cracked floor tiles.
The heating was not on so room quite cold!
We regretted booking a table at restaurant. I like to eat reasonably early so we booked for 7pm. The menu was limited so we ordered almost straight away ........ our meal came at 8:20!!! This was after us asking if there was a problem. The reason they gave was that the chef had prepared my husbands paella from scratch. Had my husband known this he would gave chosen an alternative. However paella excellent but staff should have initially advised us of the delay.
Breakfast was good with regards to food but not much direction from staff, we decided we could sit anywhere and started helping ourselves to things.
On the whole excellent value for money but hotel tired and seemed to be struggling.

Recently returned from a 2 night break at the Windsor Hotel in Whitley Bay. It is situated about 100m from the promenade on a fairly quiet side road which connects the sea front to the town.
As is often the case at this time of year, the hotel was quiet and it has to be said is looking tired and worn.
We had room 48 on the second floor which was a reasonable size, but can only be described as average. The room was cheerless - completely devoid of pictures, one of the beds was decidedly worn and the TV was of a dated design. The bathroom was better, but had some of the most uninviting looking soap of a spurious brown colour with the sink, but none in the bath! Bedroom furniture was at least 60 years old and I could not classify the style.
We had the evening meal on the first night which was good - the breakfast food was also good, but many of the basics expected these days were missing. No fresh rolls, croissants, fresh coffee, cooked meats or refrigerated yoghurts etc - basic.
Whitley Bay has a decent sea front with some regeneration taking place - you can have a bracing walk by the sea out of season and it is a 20 minute train ride into Newcastle.
However, the Windsor Hotel does need some serious money spending on it to attract new clientèle - so with that statement I award it 3 stars - just!

Room Tip: Rooms do experience noise from revellers well into the night (3.40 am) - check this out

This is our 3rd stay at the windsor hotel and we were not disappointed. We asked for a sea view and were given room 20... absolutely stunning! A large room with a beautiful 4 poster bed and 42" tv. The cost was £60 for 2 nights a real bargain.a lovely bathroom with separate bath and shower cubicle. The staff always friendly and helpful. We will definitely be staying here again and would recommend it to anyone.

We were booked in to see the pato in Whitley bay . We found the hotel through Trip Advisor and despite mixed reviews decided to go ahead and book as the family room was a very reasonable price and near to the seafront . Our other option was to stay in Newcastle . The family room was huge and fine for a family of 4 . It was clean , warm and quiet in the evenings . The breakfasts were tasty and the wedding breakfast was a nice treat . All the staff were helpful and friendly but especially Jonathan on reception who seems a real character . The hoel was two minutes walk from the beach and near by to a few local restaurants too . The panto starring the wonderful Sarah Jane Honeywell.was great too . Our only disappointment on leaving was to find a parking ticket on our windscreen . We were apparently next to a dropped kerb at the front of the hotel . We are disputing the fine as the kerb was not level with the road and had no markings or signs .We had been parked there for three days and hadn't realised there was a car park at the back of the hotel .

Room Tip: Apparently quieter at the back of the hotel . Park in the car park !
