“Tasty food and good customer service”
Reviewed 16 March 2014 via mobile

It was a few weeks ago that we visited here, we had been on a night out and decided a curry was in order. We have had takeaways from here before which have been very good, sitting in was even nicer. I would say the chicken tikka masala was the best I have had in many years, it was absolutely delicious and no grease like in other local restaurants. My other half had vegetable madras which he described as excellent and full of spice and flavour. Towards the end we got chatting to the owner who talked to us abut how they cook the dishes...very interesting and reassuring to hear how good food is cooked! We will absolutely be back, we would like to try the tapas night.

“Excellent food, service awful.”
Reviewed 12 March 2014

I have been in this restaurant several times, and it has always been OK, a bit slow maybe but brilliant food. I went in with my family recently, and found that there was only one waiter, with a number of tables full and folk waiting for takeaways. We ordered our meal and drinks, but our starter came after about an hour. The waiter was obviously harassed and apologised but explained that he was on his own. Eventually, after we were considering going to the Shahenshah, our food arrived. As always the food was excellent. My only complaint was that the dishes came but without those little warmers with the candles you usually get. The food quickly goes cold. So, lovely food, eventually. The service was terrible but that was not the fault of the only waiter who worked very hard indeed. But the average mark is not my fault either; it could have been a very good.

“Food average, Service terrible”
Reviewed 1 March 2014

Waited ridiculous amount of time for drinks, to then not actually get the drinks orders right. (Which was quite annoying when you could see a person behind the bar playing on their phone).
The main problem was the incompetence of waiting staff.
Topped off by very average food.
My second and last visit.

Hi Vanessa judging by your review I am of the impression that you rarely dine out??!
Should you choose to dine out Again in the future
Few points to take into consideration.

Firstly....when ordering try to look at the person that's taking your order rather then staring into the ceiling or in a different direction. Waiting approximately 5 mins for your drinks on a busy Saturday nite in my opinion is normal.

Secondly.....the person you noticed behind the bar was taking a call on a cordless phone for a take out order again this is normal in most establishments.

Thirdly......when clearing tables the waiting team takes great satisfaction in noticing that a customer has finished all there meal, when clearing your table it was noted that the dishes were clean to the extent that the dishwasher need not wash them.

We at the ahar take great pride in providing our customers with excellent food and exceptional service.

“Consistenly excellent food and service”
Reviewed 1 March 2014

This is a great Indian restaurant. The food is always excellent as is the service. If you go on Friday's you can get the staff curry and that is a lovely curry. Staff are very professional but also friendly. There are loads of Indian restaurants nearby but none of them serve food of this quality. Atmosphere is nice too.

“Local, friendly and good value”
Reviewed 6 February 2014 via mobile

The Ahar is the closest restaurant to our house. Fortunately it has always been a byword for friendly service and excellent value food so we are frequent customers, both for eating in and take away meals.
The restaurant is family run by entrepreneurial brothers who have recently introduced tinnovative menus to complement the standard, comprehensive offer. We have enjoyed the tapas menu which enables you to try two different main dishes in addition to a starter, side dish, rice and nan bread for a fixed price. The new diet menu looks as though it will be just as enjoyable and good value.
The staff are friendly and helpful, always willing to try and accommodate us even when we forget to reserve a table.
The restaurant has space for about 30 diners and comfortable seating at the bar whilst waiting for a table or to collect take away orders. The bar has a good selection of draught and bottled beers, including Cobra and Kingfisher, plus reasonably priced wine. The decor is contemporary Indian and the lighting creates an intimate atmosphere.
We shall continue to make regular use of this excellent local restaurant. Our children, who now live outside the region always make a beeline for the Ahar when they visit.
