Recommended length of visit: 2-3 hours
Owner description: Jam Jar Cinema is an intimate, inviting, friendly 50 seat community venue in the heart of Whitley Bay. We boast a cosy lounge and bar area, offering a broad selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, all available to be consumed whilst watching a eclectic selection of new and classic films for all ages. We are one of the smallest full time screens in the UK - run by with and for local people and visitors to the area. We have big ambitions and an even bigger heart. All money raised is reinvested in education and outreach projects across the North East. Tickets are simply purchased either on-line, or at the in-house Box Office, accessible during our opening hours. The venue is also available for Private Events/Parties. Come see us at the Box Office to find out more. So whether you come to see a film, or fancy a drink in a relaxed environment, pop on down to Jam Jar Cinema. We hope to see you soon!

“West Side Story”

Got there, told them my name, the pre-ordered tickets were waiting for us at the till. Help your self to home made scones and would you like tea or coffee. Brilliant. A man playing piano in the corner of the room, very pleasant. We had an interval and got a g&t(Bombay Sapphire) and a v&t(Grey Goose), both doubles and took them back in for the second half.
I loved it and the other half loved it too - she liked the film a bit more than me though. Great little gem in Whitley, if only I lived here I'd visit often.

“Wonderful!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 August 2014

I have privately hired the Jam Jar for various film showings for both my children and adult friends. It is a fabulous venue and we always have a great time. Dan and his staff are amazing, nothing is too much trouble and we always feel welcome when we come to Jam Jar. Cannot recommend enough, we have a further 4 bookings to enjoy in the near future. Pay a visit, you will not be disappointed!

Small But friendly, the staff are all excellent, the small cinema gives the feeling of being at a private screening, Drinks , food ar at reasonable prices.
I My wife and i intend to revisit very homely, wish i could see all my favourites here!!
they seem to specialise in films that have just come off main screens as well as classics, this is a local enterprise, along with the whitley bay film festival , great to see things happening in whitley

“Great addition to Whitely Bay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 June 2014

Jam Jar Cinema a must visit for anyone in Whitely Bay, locals and visitors alike. You can really feel that the place is community run and in return, run for the benefit of the community. The prices here are cheaper than perhaps all big name cinema companies, and if you don't want a drink the incredibly helpful staff will happily serve you coffee or drinks from the bar. Not to mention that all seats are premium seats, something the other cinema firms charge extra for, giving you added comfort. The venue can also be hired out for parties or gatherings - a great idea if you're looking to do something a little fun, quirky and different.
