We always go for basic accommodation, small B&B in small villages, hoping to find personality and human warmth. Not in this case. Now I understand why the only picture that you can find of this place is the little garden outside.... We arrived and were greeted by a sign on the door with the number to call to check in. The guy that runs it was having a bite at the pub (4,30 pm) and candidly said he forgot about us arriving. Great start!!!
Big room, high ceiling, lots of light. Furniture dated, something just out of a 60's movie. However I wouldn't have given it such a poor score if it wasn't for the horrible noises coming from the pipes, a bang and then crushing noise, like those garbage disposal you sometimes find installed under the kitchen sink. Coming from who knows where considering that, when we asked the owner, he couldn't say anything. It looked like he actually didn't notice or wasn't bothered by it! Breakfast of poor quality, freshly prepared but the ingredients left to desire. We pick this place for the proximity to the seafront and the lighthouse, I have to say there is not much more to Whitley Bay anyway (truth to be told we visited at the end of May, not peak season). Still I was expecting a bit less than a ghost town. The lighthouse is very charming though.....
