“The calypso needs a re-tune”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 October 2012

This hotel is in the perfect spot; sunlit balcony, wavering palms, soft sands and shallow sea, tucked at the quiet end of the bay. It's why we went. Yet it could do with a spot of TLC, a coat of paint and more.So whilst it charges top euro The Calypso really should get itself a re-tune. And if you ever read here its tuned up and turned itself into a swish boutique hotel rush to book. Meantime it is like so much of Spain today needs a face lift or finishing!

Room Tip: If you plan to be out after 10pm take the key with you!!

The hotel is under new management, [old lady has gone] the new owner is doing his best to get and keep customers. the beach bar is still the best in the area. this hotel now does halloween, st georges and st andrews day meals and is available for any type of function. the staff are friendly and helpful. I would recommend this as a great place to spend time in San Juan De Los Terreros.
also see www.terreros for more info.

Room Tip: best with one on the front to get the sea breaze

We found this by chance while touring. Right on the beach, lovely rooms, many with a beach view and balcony. It has a restaurant (not used) and a beach front restaurant/bar where we had a good lunch. Reasonably priced in August 90 euro inc buffet breakfast. A comment about the management. Check in staff very good. Bar staff very good. Management (an elderly lady who I was told was the owner) badly in need of customer service advice. We revisited the beach bar/restaurant in the evening about 8.30 (not late for Spain). Signs on a post clearly gave opening times as quite late. We finished our adequate meal around 9.30 and looked forward to relaxing with drinks for maybe a further hour. Its August, Its warm. We were told the bar would be closing at 10pm, I queried the signage, the waiter had little english so brought over a colleague. I explained our wishes and he went to the afformentioned elderly lady (about 4 steps away) who chuntered something in Spanish and turned her back on us. 2 minutes later all the lights went out and we were in the dark!! She obviously had somewhere to go as shortly after the second chap picked her up in a car and they disappeared. At breakfast we saw large signs describing what comprises a 'buffet breakfast' - 1 egg, 1 sausage, 1 juice, 1 coffee etc. Most were totaly ignoring this as did we. For the rest of our stay we ate over the road at a perfectly good open air restaurant - until well after midnight.
Do not let this stop you staying at this lovely little hotel, just don't put up with any outdated attitudes to paying clients.

Room Tip: Ensure you get one facing the sea. The rear rooms could be anywhere -we were given one first but it...
