We didn't stay in the lodge, we came specifically for the golf, which was spectacular. We were supposed to have a poor day weather-wise, but it was a stunning day. The golf course was fantastic, one of the best I've ever played, with some amazing holes and jaw-dropping views. After the round, my wife arrived and the pros allowed us to take a cart out and have a look at the views.

We were staying for dinner, and they were more than happy for us to while away an hour or 2 in the spa and jacuzzi, the General Manager Jay even driving us up there and collecting us once we had finished.

The meal that we had was beautiful - the only issue we did have was that we went a-la-carte and missed out on dessert when we could have gone for the 5 course menu and still paid the same price, but were not told, just were greeted with surprise that we didn't have the whole menu, which of course we would definitely had done had we have known.

This is the only blot on the copy book for us, and we felt we were treated like royalty as soon as we passed through the gates to the moment we left. Can't wait to go again!

Thank you for taking the time to share this feedback from your recent visit to Kauri Cliffs.

We are delighted to hear how much you enjoyed your golf and dining experiences. I was disappointed to learn that you were not offered dessert during your meal. These are available on both the Tasting and A la Carte menu’s we offer. Sincere apologies that you did not have the opportunity to experience our Pastry Chef’s expertise while with us.

We look forward to welcoming you back to the Lodge soon.

We were in two minds about submitting this review as we felt we had said all we had to say at the time. Patrons at Kauri Cliffs Lodge (KCL) probably fall into two classes: those for whom staying there is quite frequent and routine, and those for whom it an indulgence
We're in the latter group.
My wife and I stayed for two nights in late August to celebrate a special anniversary, as part of ten days touring Northland.

We've had indulgences at luxury places around the world, lodges, palaces and hotels (such as Four Seasons) but nothing can compare to this fine place in our homeland.
From the time the remote-controlled gates open at the driveway, the service is exemplary. All staff address one by name, and they're pleasant and helpful without going overboard.
Sebastian gave us welcome drink in the main lodge (well, it was afternoon) while Boyd made our car disappear and luggage reappear in the suite.

There, a bottle of pinot noir joined a welcome note to acknowledge the anniversary. The suites are semi-detached but extremely private in their bush surroundings, but with fabulous views North-east. They're wonderfully designed and equipped.
As we were on the "NZ Residents Winter Package", we chose the massage each day in the stunning spa building under the TLC of Georgia.

After pre-dinner drinks, dinner was served that night in the North veranda room where we were the sole occupants in front of a log fire, and served by Susanne. I chose the tasting menu both evenings - all meals were top class in taste, presentation and delivery.
It was a bit windy and showery on day two, so we took a golf cart and explored the property, along the golf routes and farm access ways. Massages again between 3-5.00pm (one hour each). A special menu for us at dinner under the eye of Michael and Susanne. There was a bottle of champagne ordered as a surprise by our younger sonin collusion with the staff

We appreciated that Jay Robertson stopped by to welcome us at pre-dinner drinks. Ever the gracious host, at breakfast on the third and last day, he stressed that we didn't have to rush off and we could stay all day if we wished.

One final anecdote shows why KCL is set apart from others. Eighteen kilometres on the drive North, I had a flashback of our "medicine kit" sitting on a low shelf in Suite X bathrrom. A call confirmed it was there and that it would be delivered! Sure enough, on the nine kilometre mark we met up with Boyd delivering the bag.

Thanks to KCL for making a special occasion a memorable one.

Room Tip: We understand all the double-occupancy suites are identical

Arriving at Kauri Cliffs we wondered if our stay could live up to wonderful Cape Kidnappers and of course it did in every way. A very warm welcome from Neil who asked if we would like tea, before showing us around. Our suite was gorgeous with views over the golf course and although not golfers we took the opportunity of driving a golf buggy around the course. Boyd took us on a lovely property tour and impressed us with his knowledge of the bird life with many interesting stories and also showed us the beaches. We were completely spoiled in the dining room with the fabulous food antd care of Michael, Trevor and Susanne.
We were sorry to have to say goodbye to everyone after a short stay but where we had felt so much at home.
