We were at Kauri Cliff and Cape Kindnappers lodges in New Zealand few months ago. Both places are out of this world, service is excellent, staff superb and lodges more than five stars. Both places have magnificent views to the ocean and golf courses are top. I do not golf, but I still had great time as there are activities for non golfers; gym, spa, swimming pool, walking routes etc. If I wanted something extra like blueberries for breakfast, the did not say no, they got them from some where and nezt morning I had blueberries also, without asking. I call this top service. The only thing negative is that from Finland New Zealand is far, but once you get there you will love it. I will reveal here that I am a senior staff-writer and travel a lot, so I know what I am talking about.

Room Tip: All rooms are good, but ask with a view to the ocean and gol course

We stayed at Kauri Cliffs in February 2014 and the lodge is very luxurious, it is beautifully appointed and boasts one of the best golf courses we've ever played. The pro shop staff were wonderful and very helpful. We enjoyed the special Maori performance before dinner and the Valentine's Day dinner on pink beach was a highlight. The overall service was good but not as good as some other luxury lodges we're used to, who falls in the same league. For example, we weren't greeted on arrival or assisted with our bags until our chauffeur alerted the reception staff that we've arrived (which was strange as they were alerted to our arrival at the gate which is a five minute drive to the lodge), also, our room had an issue with a faulty TV network cable and after three days, despite daily calls to reception, the problem persisted without a solution or an explanation. Fortunately, we weren't too concerned as we did not watch much television, but the lack of action to get it sorted out, did leave a question mark as to the level of service one would expect from a lodge of this caliber. There were a couple of small niggles with the taps in the shower, again, not something to be expected from a luxury lodge. Overall, the dinners were delicious, the waitstaff friendly, the rooms comfortable, and the scenery breathtaking so overall we had a lovely, memorable stay.

Dear TJLizelle,

Many thanks for your feedback on your stay last summer at The Lodge at Kauri Cliffs.
We are so pleased that you found the lodge to be “ a very special place”. Your sentiment about the location and the world class golf course are equally welcomed, and we thank you for sharing these kind words.

It is disappointing, however, to learn of your concerns about a couple of service issues. In everything we do, we strive for the extraordinary. Our expectations for service are no different. I assure you, the service concerns you mention are not typical of The Lodge at Kauri Cliffs, and the genuine service our guests have come to know and love.

Your feedback is invaluable, however, to ensuring our standards are always met, without exception. I encourage you to reach out to us directly, and am glad that you did so in this instance. We do hope to welcome you back in the near future, and are delighted you agree that Kauri Cliffs is a very special place.

Warm regards

This has to be the most gorgeous spot in the North Island, certainly the best I have been too. The location is amazing- the most incredible views, beautiful scenery, trees, forest, beaches, landscape, and then there is the rooms. We stayed in a deluxe room and I just wished the days were longer to enjoy it more! Did walk to the giant kauri tree and to pink beach, drove around the whole estate and got a sense of the expanse. Outstanding meal at the Lodge, delicious massage at the exquisite Spa. What a treat, already planning how to return! Staff were all superb, Jodi, Andrew, I feel bad naming just two when everyone was so friendly and helpful. Guys said fantastic golf but even if you didn't play there is so much to do instead and still feel you have enjoyed the location and its amenities.

We have just enjoyed a three day stay at this hotel and it has been absolutely marvellous. Superb food , friendly and highly competent staff and a great golf course to boot. I can not recommend this lodge more highly and the only variable is of course the weather at this time of year but we were reasonably lucky.!! The rooms / suites are just fine , well appointed and serviced and quite frankly it is impossible to make any negatives comments because there just weren't any. Dale the head chef is a great chef and even though we were the only people to dine on our first evening here he produced an absolutely fantastic 5 course tasting menu for us and the service and wine selection choices were very well explained by Valeria the sommelier to make it the perfect evening for both of us.

Room Tip: All the rooms are similar but number one is the shortest walk to the lodge and has a great view over...

The Lodge at Kauri Cliffs is gorgeous! We only stayed one night and I never wanted to leave. We felt more relaxed after 24 hours here than a whole week in Fiji. It was a turbo-vacation! The spa is amazing, the suite was luxurious, the Lodge is beautifully appointed, the food is amazing and the service was impeccable. The location is spectacular! The views from the Lodge and our suite were breathtaking. Absolutely every aspect of this place is designed for relaxation and pleasure. I can't wait to go back!!

Room Tip: There are no bad rooms.

Went to stay the night at Kauri Cliffs on the recommendation and booking through Alistair Tod from Greenfernz. We were greeted by Jodi, the Assistant Manager of the Lodge. Jodi was friendly, personable and very knowledgable about the property and surrounding areas. She made us feel very welcome and nothing was a problem.

Our room had beautiful decor that perfectly matched the property surroundings. My wife had a massage by Trudi at the spa and said it was the best massage she has had.

The golf course is simply stunning. It reminds me of pebble beach just without the crowds. So many strong golf holes with the most beautiful ocean views.

We are looking forward to our spring visit to Cape Kidnappers.
