Well, not having been here for 2 years I was expecting a horrid time based on some of the reviews, but I am pleased to report this could not of been further from the truth .since I was last here everything has improved . Whilst still not the Ritz , it offers a typical English seaside hotel experience, except here the service we received throughout all departments was exceptional .we stayed on a ladies weekend , so we had breakfast and evening meal, breakfast , superbly cooked and plentiful, the evening meal , not quite gourmet but certainly tasty and well presented. The table staff worked hard and managed a cheery smile , whilst pandering the needs of a few demanding people . Bar area , recently freshened up, service price and selection could not be faulted . Back areas attention to detail has improved, whilst we had a room on the 3 rd floor , it was clean warm and comfortable , sadly the jacuzzi was not working at the time but I'm sure it will be attended to, ( joke ) only thing really missing , but is typical of this aged property was a power shower , but the bathroom was clean and useable .tv in the room had the digital channels , we did have one issue in the room, but we notified the Manageress Sophie and it was dealt with immediately , we did not wait until leaving and then complain !
All in all , it is what it is , a very reasonably priced place to stay , with good staff and facilities .be warned , it is not 4 star nor pretends to be, but does try , certainly gives value for money and is improving ! Cheers all , see you next time , the Page Family

Just returned from a four night coach holiday. After reading the reviews we were dreading what we would find, but on the whole it wasn't too bad. The staff were all very pleasant and the young waitress we had was excellent. Tea or coffee was available for us on our arrival which was a nice touch. Yes the food was definitely the weak link, and two nights running we were not able to have our first choice, but then it was a cheap holiday!. The bathroom was very tiny, with the toilet and the basin being far too close together for comfort. Our group felt that the rooms should have a telephone as not everyone has a mobile in case of an emergency in the night. We did have a particularly bitter cold week but there was a definite lack of radiators and the restaurant was extremely cold. The staff did bring heaters in to the lounge and dancing area but, as the doors seemed to be left open most of the time, it was still very cold.

Just returned home after a four day stay with a local coach operator.Cannot understand the bad reviews about this hotel. To us ,and we are fussy, the whole of the hotel is very clean,my usual standard is the amount of dust, fluff around edges of rooms, our's had none,as some people have said ,we had a top floor room with a balcony,it was very cold and windy and a little drafty, but the noise of the sea makes up for that. The food was plain and simple but very tasty, ample amounts and well cooked,Darren the waiter is very attentative. We will deffinatly return to this hotel.

just got back from a few nights stay at this hotel. Had a wonderful time the rooms ate very clean and tidy. All I can say is you get what you pay for. The staff are friendly and attentive (especially Ryan behind the bar who looks like mclovin from the film superbad!) ahh Chika chika! The food is average but edible! Had a wonderful time and would recommend this to anyone looking for a cheap get away! Thanks Carlton hotel! Top marks!

Room Tip: 124 and 127 are the rooms we had!

Wouldn't be a compliant as such but firstly the shower in our room was slightly split, so couldn't use it also the first night was freezing due to heavy winds and the door leading to the little patio area was far from air tight, and the room was freezing (might as well of had the door open) - the rooms weren't bad other than that so just needs a bit of work on bringing back up to standard.
Also first impressions mean alot and think the front outside of the hotel could do with a bit of decorating I must admit if I hadn't of booked it online and was looking then and there I wouldn't of stayed there due to how slightly run down it looked outside, it's a shame as inside in fairly well kept!
One last thing would be the maid trying to enter our room at 9:30 in the morning on our deparcher day, they knocked once and didn't really give me time to go and open the door, and then she or he quickly open and then closed it when they must of seen a light on, I think this is very bad indeed, when I told reception they said they should knock twice, but she 100% only knocked once.. They did say they would keep a check on it. I don't think they should go in the room until after the 10:30 time it states that we should be out by.
But taken all that to one side.. We did still enjoy our stay, and couldn't fault the reception staff at all, as they were helpful on arrival by seeing if our room was ready early (we was very early) and gave us a cup of tea wile we waited, and they continued to be friendly and helpful all our stay. I would still recommend this hotel if these things were dealt with.

Inspite of the lousy reviews below, we decided to have a 4 day holiday here in January. We found it to be well worth the £109 we had paid for the trip.
The food in the dining room, although quite basic, was quite satisfactory with a good selection. The vegetarian options were found to be the most tasty. The young serving staff could not be more helpfull and pleasant and worked very hard to ensure no one waited too long to be served.
The bar staff and entertainments team all carried out their jobs with a smile and nothing was too much trouble.
The only slight niggle was, having a room right at the top of the building, there was a lack of water pressure and little hot water.
The rooms were decorated nicely and the tea and coffee supplied were topped up everyday, something you dont often get in hotels costing far much more.
All in all the whole visit was very enjoyable and I wouldnt hesitate to recommend for a short, inexpensive trip.

Room Tip: Rooms at front face beach thought top floo has low water pressure

We stayed here just after Christmas as part of a coach holiday. For what we paid I was not expecting very much. The hotel has prime position and on arrival we received a warm welcome and a room, although on the small side was clean and comfortable. The food was adequate and the service quick and efficient. The service is where the hotel excels itself. The staff go an extra mile to ensure that their guests are comfortable and well looked after. This is a hotel that is exceptional value for money.
