We stayed here for four nights in July....

Upon arrival we were allowed to check in a little earlier but when we went up to our room we were told by the maid that she hadn't yet cleaned it; we just wanted somewhere to leave our bags so it wasn't too much of an inconvenience but first impressions and all that.

After check-in we were given directions to the 'nearby' parking location which turned out to be a five minute walk away up two flights of stairs and a steep hill which was fine for us but would be a problem for anyone with mobility issues. Another potential concen with the parking is that they only have 20 or so parking spaces yet they have 88 rooms. We asked about this and was told that they are allocated on arrival subject to availability but, with so many coach parties staying here, we don't know whether it ever results in someone expecting parking not actually getting it.

Being situated right on the Seafront, the location of the hotel is superb though Sandown itself looks a little tired and run down and could with some investment to bring it back to life but we just used it as a base to explore the rest of the beautiful Island which it is well located to do.

The room itself was sea-facing, very clean and of an adequate size. There was no aircon in the room, and the hotel do not supply fans, so it was very hot and stuffy during the day but the seabreeze and comforatble bed made for a very good night's sleep.

There was a good choice for breakfast, not just the usual Full English, and though it was all edible it was nothing to rave about. We ate out every eveing so can't comment on the evening offerings.

For the first two nights that we were there the ballroom was taken over by a private party so there was no evening entertainment, which caused a few grumbles from the coach party guests, but from what I heard the night that there was entertainment I don't think we missed much!

Aside from the location of this hotel, the best thing about it was the staff, especially the girl on Reception, who dealt with all of our requests very professionally, efficiently and promptly; if it wasn't for them I would rate this hotel as average but because of them I'll rate it very good.

Thank you very much for your extensive review - it's really kind of you to take the time. We're really pleased that you enjoyed your stay and that you were particularly impressed with the helpfulness of the staff and the seafront location. I'm sorry that the entertainment was not to your liking, we try to offer a range of entertainment to suit all tastes so perhaps on an alternative night you would have enjoyed it. We hope you will return to the Trouville Hotel on your next visit to the Isle of Wight.

I have just returned from a Club Dance weekend at the Trouville which was great fun! The hotel staff were very helpful especially Laura in the restaurant (table 11 !!) & Front of House Manager, Debbie.
The rooms were clean & well maintained by the housekeeping team, food of a good standard & the hotel was right on the clean & deserted beach - what more do you need?!
The town itself was very quiet, especially on the Saturday night but we did find some 'action' at the Sunday pub quiz at The Castle. Not a place to visit if you want lots of action but great place to relax in.

Room Tip: The sea view rooms are fab but if you sleep with a window open it can be noisy.

I stayed at the Trouville with a coach trip at the end of June, most things have already been said about this hotel, great sea views, clean+tidy, food was ok but could have a long wait for cooked breakfasts, dining room staff worked really hard and were really friendly..the room was nice but the bathroom a bit tired,it was clean but needs to be updated. If you have mobility problems this is not the hotel for you ,you have to step into the bath to use shower as they are all above the bath as one of our party found out when we checked in,she was told to go across the road and use the sea! they do not have any accessable bathrooms in this hotel.good hotel to use as a base + travel over the island, Sandown town ok but like many places these days, the high street tired and old fashioned +closed down shops..

Room Tip: sea views excellent

Thank you very much for your review following your recent stay. It's lovely that you appreciated the cleanliness of the hotel and the sea views! I agree that some of the bathrooms do require some updating - this is planned for January 2014 and also includes some walk-in showers. I'm surprised that one of your party was only informed that all rooms have baths on arrival. The coach operators are informed of this prior to arrival, which should be relayed to the guests. With regards to the town, Sandown Town Council is currently working very hard to 'revamp' the town, with lots of interesting ideas/plans in the pipeline so you will have to come back to see the improvements!

Just returned from a brilliant holiday week with a coach of friends from Oxford.
Hotel is clean, tidy, light and airy. Staff were excellent, keen and attentive. Managers were happy, helpful and efficient.
Breakfasts were a delight, freshly cooked, good choice and plenty to eat.
Evening meals were well cooked and presented with a good choice and more than enough to eat.
Rooms overlooking sea would be difficult to beat as the windows are full width of room.
My wife and I would return to this hotel anytime.
Evening entertainment was nicely varied, very professional and enjoyable.
You could not get closer to the sea if you tried.
Altogether a brilliant time.
Thank you Trouville

Just back from a one night stay & thought this is was a good choice. Staff very friendly & helpful, sea view room (3rd floor) gave a great view of the bay. Room was a bit hot (but I guess most hotel rooms are at the moment (20/7). Woken early (6am) by tractor/beach rake tidying the beach opposite (but better than a scruffy beach I guess). Enjoyed a full English breakfast, buffet cereals/juice, served main & toast. Entertainment perhaps aimed at an elderly audience (who were in the majority when we stayed) but the singer sounded pretty good.
Would we return - definitely yes.

A short stay but a great review - thank you very much, we really appreciate it! Sorry that you found your room to be hot - fortunately (or unfortunately!) you experienced very warm weather whilst you were here which did cause the rooms to get unusually hot. We're glad that you enjoyed your stay and we hope to see you again soon.

Stayed over night in a family room on the 2nd floor. Firstly, the staff were all very friendly and interacted with the guests and appeared to enjoy being there. The hotel itself was quite dated looking and nothing special from the outside but our room had the softest nicest beds, plenty of room and clean bathroom with nice towels and soap etc. Proper clean new looking sheets and working tv ( tiny with freeview). The hotel is on the beach front and right near the pier so ideally located. We frquented the bar and the evening entertainment was very good despite not being over populated with guests. The hotel did appear to have alot of older guests but we did see some other families sprinkled around. The breakfast in the morning was fabulous with chose of 3 juices, cereal, hot drinks and extensive hot food including a lovely veggie breakfast for me! Again staff were outstanding and nothing too much bother.

If I had to find cons to this hotel I think it would be the windows in our room which for a family room were worrying. 2 windows were taped shut and the other one we were warned by the cleaners was dangerous as it was broken and opened wide which would be very dangerous as a chair was sitting right next to the window. I think for the £110 a night I would have expected safe windows! Also booking a table for dinner 5 mins after 5 was a complete no go which seemed odd but not end of the world as we had a nice meal out.

Overall would def book again for the overall atmosphere and rooms.

Stayed here from 6th -13th July as part of a coach party. On arrival our check in was very smooth, all our cases were taken off the coach and delivered to our rooms. We had a sea view room on the fourth floor which was clean and tidy, plenty of hanging space in the wardrobe and nice white fluffy towels in the bathroom which were changed as required. The bed was very comfortable and sleep was aided by the sound of the waves breaking on the shore just across the road, The breakfasts and evening meals were of a very good standard served by friendly, cheerful staff. There was entertainment each evening at the hotel. It was also quite nice to have an evening stroll along the prom. and the pier. We were lucky enough to have a week of unbroken sunshine so we hired a couple of sunbeds on the beach (felt like we were abroad). There is a bus stop a few minutes walk and a railway station about a 10 minute walk from the hotel which makes it well situated to see the rest of the Island. Check out was just as smooth as all cases were taken from outside our bedroom door and loaded on the coach while we had our last breakfast. We had a good time and would recommend this hotel. Thanks to all the staff at the Trouville and our coach driver Steve.
