We stayed here for four nights in July....
Upon arrival we were allowed to check in a little earlier but when we went up to our room we were told by the maid that she hadn't yet cleaned it; we just wanted somewhere to leave our bags so it wasn't too much of an inconvenience but first impressions and all that.
After check-in we were given directions to the 'nearby' parking location which turned out to be a five minute walk away up two flights of stairs and a steep hill which was fine for us but would be a problem for anyone with mobility issues. Another potential concen with the parking is that they only have 20 or so parking spaces yet they have 88 rooms. We asked about this and was told that they are allocated on arrival subject to availability but, with so many coach parties staying here, we don't know whether it ever results in someone expecting parking not actually getting it.
Being situated right on the Seafront, the location of the hotel is superb though Sandown itself looks a little tired and run down and could with some investment to bring it back to life but we just used it as a base to explore the rest of the beautiful Island which it is well located to do.
The room itself was sea-facing, very clean and of an adequate size. There was no aircon in the room, and the hotel do not supply fans, so it was very hot and stuffy during the day but the seabreeze and comforatble bed made for a very good night's sleep.
There was a good choice for breakfast, not just the usual Full English, and though it was all edible it was nothing to rave about. We ate out every eveing so can't comment on the evening offerings.
For the first two nights that we were there the ballroom was taken over by a private party so there was no evening entertainment, which caused a few grumbles from the coach party guests, but from what I heard the night that there was entertainment I don't think we missed much!
Aside from the location of this hotel, the best thing about it was the staff, especially the girl on Reception, who dealt with all of our requests very professionally, efficiently and promptly; if it wasn't for them I would rate this hotel as average but because of them I'll rate it very good.
