Booked a coach trip with Leisure Time from an advert in The South Wales Argus. Mistakenly thought we were going to The Channel View in Shanklin. We would not have booked had we known it was the one in Sandown. My friend who has difficulty walking was allocated a room totally unsuitable as you had to go up the stairs to the 2nd floor. She was given 3 different rooms in all, the third being on the ground floor which was suitable. Our room on the 2nd floor did have a sea view, the room had been freshly decorated and the bathroom had been newly fitted out with a new shower. However, the water pressure was very low and the shower was unusable as no water came through. Room was very clean as was the bedding. Hall and stairs and our rooms had nice new carpets. I got into the shower in my friends room, turned on the water which subsequently became very hot, burning the soles of my feet! Had to exit quickly. Dangerous for someone with a disability! Good job my friend hadn't taken a shower as she would have certainly got burned. I showered in another room on the 1st floor-3rd time lucky! Heating was on and rooms were warm and could be turned off if necessary so no problem with overheating! Food was equivalent to school canteen level and was quite bland. Had veg soup which tasted of stuffing balls and was grey? Breakfast was ok. Pots of tea were awful. Take tea bags and ask for hot water! Waitress worked hard and was lovely. Entertainment was enjoyable over 3 nights. Re free bar, I had orange juice and took it back as it smelt off. Other drinks were fine. We were spoken to quite sharply by bar staff when 2 of us ordered 3 drinks, one for my disabled friend who was seated and unable to come to the bar. We enjoyed the break but not the food. Would we go again? No!

The Heating was too hot in the bedrooms and in the entertainment so it was too hot to dance, the entertainment was good the first two nights but the third night they looked like they was called at the last minute. The food was ok but I would have liked a wide choice at breakfast, I only used the shower once as the water was too hot or too cold. Also in the room we had what looked like poo smeared on the wall and the door frame of the bathroom.

Heating was set at 30 degrees...far too hot!!! Room was tatty, didn't sleep in the bed only on it BUT the shower etc was new even if a bit too small! The food was ok but a very limited menu and no brown bread for toast at breakfast time...really??? This was a cheap coach trip so am not too surprised at the standard but think this place needs some renovation/decorating, so yeah a cheap and cheerful time there but would not go again if there were other options available.

Have just come back this evening from a great weekend at The Channel View Hotel. Our room was comfortable and clean. Food was good. You can not expect a 4 star hotel, when you are paying 2 star prices, but we had GREAT COMPANY. Waitress was very good. But Oh Dear, the bar staff and who we thought to be the manageress will not get any awards in the customer service department.. If the Hotel Inspector makes a visit, she will rip them apart, lol. A smile and manners cost nothing.

This hotel seems to split opinion, our room was ok, clean and warm. Big crack in the sink which had been masticked to stop the leak.

The mens toilets downstairs are disgusting, spongy floors and a horrible smell.

The food is an enigma, one meal can be superb and the next awful. The chicken curry was lovely, then next night was the worst meal ive had in years. Onion soup!!!!!! Our waitress in the evening and at breakfast was superb and very helpful. She was polite and courteous.

Asian female owner a bit rude, no social ability whatsoever.

Just returned after 4 day Christmas break .The hotel was a work in progress but the management and staff could not do enough for you .Any thing you asked for was sorted. The food was great. I would like to thank the owners for making our stay so unforgettable. The owners went out of there way to make my family welcome just for Christmas day dinner .
The staff are a credit to the owners and the owners work so hard medals all round
