“Where do we start”
Reviewed 27 April 2013

We have just come back from a 5 day break at Broadway Park Hotel, Sandown, Isle of Wight.

We traveled with Shearings by coach and we cannot fault the driver, Paul, who was very pleasant, informative and helpful.

When it came to the hotel we were very disappointed, room 119 was a complete let down particularly the bathroom, no shower except a plastic shower head that would fit on to the taps but when you attached it it blew off the taps and was no where near long enough to shower under and there was no where to attach it anyway.

We asked if we could change rooms as both of us find it difficult to get in and out of bath but were told there were no rooms available, bathroom was also mouldy and not clean.

The bedroom was not being cleaned as we spotted a cobweb under the dressing table which looks as if it had been there some weeks by the size of it. Heating was the form of an oil filled mobile radiator. We opted for the drinks offer of £30.00 each which allows 4 drinks each per night but what you were'nt told was you were limited to certain drinks if you wanted for example a Guiness you had to pay an upgrade of £1.00 which was not explained to us at time of booking.

Resturant staff very pleasant, food OK for money paid, bar staff OK.

All in all loved Isle of Wight and Shearings coach travel but not hotel.

Room Tip: Don't go for 119 ask before you go to have bathroom with a shower and check about the drinks vou...

I was sorry to read that you were dissapointed with your stay with us last week. We were unable to offer you a room with a shower as we were fully booked, if you had mentioned to us at the time the issues relating to the cleanliness of your room we would have got these rectified immediately. When making a reservation it is always advisable to request a shower, this would avoid any further disappointment in the future. The pre-paid drinks voucher are a good deal, £30.00 pp for 4 drinks per night over a 4 night break (£1.87 per drink) which includes many of the quality brands, Bells, Gordons, Bacardi, Smirnoff, there is the option to upgrade your dirnk to another brand for a £1.00, like the Guiness, which still makes it good value for money. Thank you for taking the time to post your review.

We have just returned from this hotel with Shearings. Although we had a lovely holiday, due to meeting very nice people, the hotel was very disappointing. It needs a thorough referb. The room we had was very dated & the bathroom in particular was awful not suitable for older people! It only had a bath with a "shower" attachment over the bath which only gave scalding hot water or cold no good if you wanted to shower. Also getting into & out of the bath was very difficult for my partner as he is in his 70's. We did complain about the water temperature but nothing was done. Also the bathroom had a very bad smell. It was damp & musty & the shower curtain could have done with a good wash. Having said all that we did enjoy the food & trips out. Gary our coach driver was fantastic, a lot better than the driver we had when we went to Ilfracombe in February this year!! We would return but only if the hotel was thoroughly spruced up.

I was sorry to read that you did not enjoy your stay with us, unfortunately not all of our bathrooms have showers, we are gradually refurbishing some of the bathrooms and this issue is being rectifeid. We were fully booked at the time and unable to offer to you an alternative room, should you book again in the future please mention when making your reservation that you require a shower, this imformation will be passed onto the hotel and avoid you any further dissappointment. Thank you for your review.

We stayed at this hotel for a long weekend break. Although rather tired-looking in places, the hotel is undergoing renovations and the completed areas look good. The staff were all extremely friendly and the food was hot and tasty - and a good choice was available.

The hotel car park does not have sufficient spaces, so parking needs to be reserved at £5 per night. All spaces are numbered and the reserved ones are indicated by a cone, so if someone moves the cone it is not obviously reserved so may be occupied by another resident (although when this happened to us, the hotel receptionist soon got the other car moved). Cars may be parked in surrounding roads.

Visited this hotel from the 19th to the 22nd of April 2013 on a Shearings coach holiday. For what we paid this hotel gave great value for money. We had a good choice of meals and the entertainment was good. The room was clean and comfortable and warm. On the negative side there was no WI-FI available and the windows around the hotel could have done with a good clean,

We stayed at the Broadway Park over Easter from 29th March to 1st April 2013 through a Shearings Bay Hotels self-drive package. We just wanted to get away and relax and that is just what we did!
You definitely need a car to get about and you definitely need to pre-book your parking place unless you are very fit.
The hotel itself is a bit weary but this is reflected in the price. The food was excellent both at breakfast and in the evening. The staff were very friendly and pleasant. Some were a bit too familiar for us. Friendly is nice but familiarity.......! The service at meal times was sometimes very fast and then slowed to a crawl but we managed to get to where we wanted in time!
We didn't try the entertainment. We looked into the ballroom and decided it was not our scene or age group and I don't mean too young and trendy!!
We have been to the IOW many times so knew where to visit. Forgot everything closes on Easter Sunday! Still we went to Oasis, the Garlic Farm, Godshill and shopping in Newport.
The ferry home from Yarmouth got cancelled and rerouted through Fishbourne. A bit of driving and waiting about but we arrived home the same time as we would have.
Thoroughly enjoyed our weekend and will go again but probably not back to the Broadway Park.

Room Tip: I think they are all much the same and there is a series of lifts so no problems getting to any room...

Thank you for taking the time to post a review of your stay with us over the Easter Weekend. I was glad to read that you enjoyed your meals with us and that all the staff made you feel welcome, sorry that the entertainment was not your scene we do try to cater for all tastes and ages !!! The Island is beginning to 'come to life' all we need now is some decent sunny weather so that the Island can be enjoyed at its best.

After my bad experience with the Ship and Castle in St Mawes, and armed with the compensation, I booked 5 days at the Broadway Park Hotel in Sandown. What a contrast!!! This hotel was magnificent, yes, maybe in need of a few new carpets here and there, and the introduction of a Wi-Fi system, but any tiny niggles paled into insignificance with the excellent service, pleasant and helpful reception and night porter staff, fantastic waitress service by Marta, all the staff were very helpful and always willing to help in any circumstance, even the new gardener was very pleasant, and we swapped ideas on fauna and flora whilst he beavered away at his task of enhancing the gardens without spoiling any historical look. the meals were nothing less than excellent, varied menus served hot and quickly with all diets catered for. Our driver Paul made the trips out very interesting, he was very informative and tinged with a sense of humour . The room we had was very good, and kept very clean by Christine. Also a special mention for one of the reception staff Carol who advised us that the hotel at St Ives was not to be missed, watch out for my report on that hotel, I will be going there next. All in all a wonderful experience and my faith in Shearings has been restored.

OK, four nights, half board, with four free drinks each night and only £186 inc ferry has to be good value. My room was OK, bathroom was mouldy in lots of places but the hotel is being re-furbished I gather. Room really only basic but acceptable.

Food some days good, other days not so. Avoid processed stuff, so braised beef good, curry not so....

Staff all good, papers delivered to hotel each day. NO WI FI

We got one day bus rover tickets for £10 each day and saw most of the island.

It is say 2.5 stars, but you cannot knock it for value. Get a deal out of the papers like we did!!

Room Tip: They all looked about the same!!!

Thank you for your review. We do offer excellent value for money, the self drive breaks include the car ferry which can be very expensive and so again this is a good offer.
