“Oh dear!”
Reviewed 28 May 2014 via mobile

Not an experience I will be having again. For a start we waited an hour for food which was well over priced.....and that was after paying £4.50 for a awful pint of Heineken. When the food eventually came it was dry and over cooked, chips were barely edible. The only good thing was the indoor and outdoor play areas for our 4 year old. And while im writing this, merry xmas john lennon decides to play in the background......at the end of may ( a bit picky possibly)

“Excellent pub,great food.welcome find.”
Reviewed 11 May 2014

This pub was a great find, after walking all around Sandown hoping to find somewhere to eat an evening meal. Most places were shut (and this was bank holiday weekend!)or had all tables reserved. We thought it would be fairly easy to find a pub but no,we had to google in the end. However all ended well with finding The Caulkheads. We had a good table and the staff were cheerful and welcoming. We enjoyed chilli beef with rice and prawn crackers, grilled chicken with salad and chips, and scampi and chips between us.The food was piping hot, well presented and our order came to us quickly and efficiently.

“Good food if a little overpriced.”
Reviewed 1 May 2014 via mobile

The only decent looking pub in Sandown (you should see the competition!) so it's here we ate.

We had a lovely welcome from the staff and there was a very nice open fire going. He had gammon & eggs and I the home made cheese & bacon burger, both were excellent quality & priced at £10.95. Both were large portions with a well dressed fresh salad on the side and the real ale was very good too. Don't get your hopes up with the starter or dessert menu, though. Even the ever sweet toothed Mr Amethyst Angel couldn't find anything to tempt him!

“Not good, not bad. Very overpriced. Disappointing.”
Reviewed 30 April 2014

Never been in here but been past many times in the way into Sandown. Expected to be busy as it was Easter and was unsure if booked. No need to worry. Was only a couple of tables taken.

Does the normal food and some others such as Hong Kong chicken. Quite expensive though with main courses around £11. Hoping the high price would mean outstanding food. Unfortunately not. While the food was not bad it was not that great either. It was the kind of food you would expect in a slightly better greasy spoon cafe. The roast potatoes are either done in a deep fat fryer or are Aunt Bessie style. Not what you would expect for the higher price.

The pub is self is quite pleasant. There is a big play area for children at the back. It is clean and well decorated with an open fire. The is step free access with a disabled toilet. There is also a car park.

Overall I would not recommend eating here. There are a lot of pubs doing much better food for the same price. It is probably okay for a local drink but not much more. I think the owners of the pub really need to think of either reducing the prices or increasing the quality of the food. There are pubs on the island which serve local high quality food and bigger potions for the same price. Judging by how empty it was when we visited I would be surprised if they can carry on with they strategy they have currently. A pub in nearby Brading has closed for the same reason. People won't pay high prices for average or low quality food.
