Melville Hall Hotel

Just got back from a girly mini break and stayed at the Melivlle Hall after finding an excellent offer of £69 per person for dinner, bed, breakfast and a spa treatment.
The hotel and gardens are beautifully maintained and very clean although perhaps a little dated, net curtains and artex ceilings are not really my thing!
The staff on reception and in the restaurant and bars are very friendly and helpful, the new outside pool area is fantastic and the menus imaginative and using locally sourced produce where appropriate. Portion sizes were rather small though although this suited as neither of us are big eaters.
I would say that the weak spot was the manicures and pedicures that we received as part of the package. They were really just file and paints, no massage at all and the standards of both were really not very high. Rough nails, claggy nail varnish that was past it sell by date were examples of this.
Sandown itself is rather run down and many of the hotels on the sea front look as if they are in dire need of a refurb and some tlc. The resort itself was very quiet despite the lovely weather (come 8.30pm on a Sunday evening, everything was more or less dead!) and I think in general Sandown could do with some re-invention to tempt people not to holiday abroad. The whole concept of burgers/chips/pies and slot machines just came across as tired and dated. That said, can recommend the Salt Rock Cafe on the sea front which is fresh and clean with a lovely menu and also Sunday night at the Tag pub for some fab music!

A nice building with great facilities, and the added bonus of no children allowed ! A bit shabby in places, and a distinct lack of staff, although the staff available were lovely and very helpful. The spa and pool area could also do with a tidy up (the windows and mirrors were very grubby and not cleaned in the 5 days we stayed there. Our bedroom was not hoovered during our stay and there was a serious lack of dusting going on.That said it was a lovely quiet hotel in a great location and i will definately return

Room Tip: Could do with decent cleaning staff, our room was tidied everyday but not cleaned once during our st...

We stayed in a classic room, far too small, no seating to watch t.v. Bed was very uncomfortable - needed new mattress. Bar area was pleasant and service was good, except barman couldn't make a Mojito because it wasn't on the list! The cooked breakast was very poor. There was a car park, but because it wasn;t marked out there was no space left to park . We paid £119 b&b which I consider was excessive!.

we stayed at melville as part of our honeymoon after staying in london for 3 nights and fancied extending it.on arrival we was greated by a very helpful and happy bloke, we was given our room key and sent on our way.we had a 4 post bedroom over looking the front lawns, the room had a whirpool bath which was great fun to go in,on the 2nd day we was upgraded to a bigger room with a king size bed, flat screen telly etc.each day we had room service deliver our breakfast which was very tasty and enjoyable, the staff was very happy and welcoming.we eat in the summerhill restraunt each night,at first the menu seems small but what is on the menu is very good food and more then enough,i had resotto each night and it as delicious.the staff in the restaurant was very helpfull and polite.while we was there we made use of the spa and had a full body massage, the staff again was very friendly and welcoming, the massage i had was fantastic, very relaxing and made me feel alot better.we had use of the leisure suite which had 2 detox boxes, sauna, jaccuzi and swimming pool, each part of the suite was clean and looked after, the jaccuzi was very nice and a cold dip stright after the detox box was nice, the free robes and towels was helpfull aswell.there is a warm outside jaccuzi and swimming pool thats just been refurbished but we didnt use these as the weather wasnt too good but its been finished to a high standard.
all round a great stay, staff brilliant, facilities are great and well worth going to if you want a relaxing time.

I stayed at the Melville Hall Hotel for my Mum's birthday. We were welcomed on arrival and able to help ourselves to tea and coffee whilst our room was being made up - the free upgrade was a nice touch, I don't think I would have been overly impressed with a standard room though. Mum enjoyed the spa, I could see that day-packages were popular with local residents.

Breakfast was ok, and dinner better than expected, but the service for dinner was exemplary. We felt very looked after by the charming waiters.

The hotel tried to overcharge me at the end of the stay (we had pre-paid for a package, including ferry crossings via Travelzoo), but this was easily rectified. Overall, we had a nice break in the IoW. I'd recommend the hotel for those that like comfort but don't insist on luxury.
