I had 2 nts B&B at Fernside, the room was evry well appointed with flat screen tv (freeview),free WiFi,and en-suite. There is a bar that is open inthe evening for drinks and bar meals, and in the morning there is a spendid breakfast room where a very good full english breakfast is served. There is good off-street parking and the B&B is situated in a quiet location just 5-10 minutes walk to the seafront. I would recommend the Fernside to friends/family and I would stay there again. 10/10

The Fernside is a lovely clean and comfortable place to stay in arguably the best area of the Isle of Wight for a short break or indeed a longer summer holiday.
We were made very welcome by Lawrie and Denise, the bedroom was first class and the breakfasts were exceptional. The Fernside also has a good bar/lounge area which we took advantage of, we just wished we could have stayed longer than two nights, maybe next time.

Laurie must be the friendliest hotelier in the island. We were heartily welcomed and when he told us that nothing was too much trouble he meant it.

The room was of a good size good and cleaned to a high standard. the en-suite shower was also well powered and very clean. The bed was firm and comfy.

We enjoyed the good range at breakfast, amongst others, choise of cereals, and a menu of hot items from which to choose. It is an excellent central location, wiht parking and a nearby station for those on public transport.

Highly recommend.

Me and my wife were out in Isle of Wight for a weekend break during off peak seaon [November]. During last minute search this B&B came up recommended and around the budget I was looking for. This was quite close to the beach as well. Not exactly next door, but close enough.

Once we reached she was quite impressed with the room interiors. The reception and small bar was well decorated. All facilities [including Internet] worked as expected.

The breakfast time was from 8:30-9:00 which seemed kinda too short for us and we were not able to make use of it on both mornings [once too late and once we left too early].

I would highly recommend this place for someone looking for budget but decent place in Sandown, Isle of Wight.

Second stay at The Fernside. Used the inclusive ferry deal. Made several changes to ferry times and received great service with re-arranging the times with The Fernside. Comprehensive breakfast menu and quality food. Free WiFi available in rooms. It is a walk away from the town, station and main bus stop. Recommended to friends who also stayed there this year.

The Fernside is perfectly located for the car-less visitor to Sandown - a five minute walk from the station, and five minutes the other way to a bus stop which takes you to Ryde or Newport, and then to the rest of the island. The room I had was excellent - next door to the dining room on the ground floor, comfortable and clean. Little things (the provision of a bottle of water every day for example) pointed to staff who care about the comfort of the guests.

The breakfast was served quickly, and was truly excellent - high quality sausages (you can often gauge a B&B breakfast by the quality of the sausages, I find!), good bacon, and all well cooked. Staff were friendly and unfailingly efficient - they couldn't do enough for the guests.

Sandown itself is a traditional British seaside resort, but the rest of the island was a revelation - lots of great walks, a brilliant bus service, and lots of interesting places to visit. I plan to come back at some point, and when I do, hopefully the Fernside will have a room!
