Nice hotel, great restaurant, rooms fair but not stunning.
Staff were very nice but could be a little unhelpful, we requested an early breakfast but were told that the best they could do was a sandwich made the night before, we tried to confirm this at about 8.30pm the night before but we were too late as the kitchen was now being cleaned !!! no early morning call was available either!!!, I asked myself if they were they to look after the guests or make life easy for themselves????

Very glad to know that SnoopyBrook enjoyed our food and restaurant but feel that the client’s other remarks are rather unfair and should be put into context.
The clients were a late reservation (30th August) for the Island’s Bestival Weekend when many services are at full stretch. The hotel would not therefore have been able to offer it’s full choice of rooms but, far more importantly, availability on the ferries was very limited. At the time of booking they were advised that the last available ferry back to the mainland for the entire day on the Monday was at 8am. Bearing in mind that it is a 30 minute drive to the ferry and check-in time is a minimum of 30 minutes before sailing time this meant that they would have to leave the hotel by 7am at the latest. In such cases our normal procedure is to advise clients at the time of booking that breakfast would not be available (we are after all a “holiday” as opposed to “business” hotel) - breakfast would have had to have been at 6.30am to facilitate being in time for the ferry. We would however have offered the option of sandwiches or suggested getting breakfast on the ferry.

Despite this the client came to reception late afternoon on the Sunday and asked about breakfast and an early morning call. Again sandwiches were offered but the client “turned his nose up” then asked about a morning call (which would have to have been at 6am). 2 Star Hotels do not have night porters so he was offered an alarm clock – to which he said he would prefer to use is mobile.

Later that evening he must have changed his mind about sandwiches and returned to reception to arrange same. I have to say that the 8.30pm time stated and that the kitchen was being cleaned down is contested and it is thought that this was considerably later. The reasons are twofold: a) I with a celebration group of 8 did not enter the restaurant until 7.50pm and there is no way that we could have gone through the menu until sometime well after 9pm (obviously the cheese course and coffee are nothing to do with the kitchen). b) The time sheets of both of the chefs who were on duty that night show their time of finishing as 9.10pm (the last 10-15 minutes would have been clearing down and cleaning..

We regret any misunderstanding but had the client ordered sandwiches late afternoon on the Sunday or even whilst at Dinner that evening they would have readily been supplied

My Wife and I, and Mother-in-Law spent a wonderful week at the Montrene. From the moment we arrived we were all impressed by the courtesy, friendliness and professionalism of every member of the staff. We would like to say a special thank you to Elena who kept our rooms spotlessly clean and ensured we had everything we needed to make us comfortable. The whole Hotel complex was spotless. The food was fantastic and all the waiting staff were very helpful. Thank you all and we look forward to seeing you again as we will definitely be back and will recommend The Wight Montrene to all our friends.

We enjoyed our stay here. The hotel and facilities were spotlessly clean, the staff friendly, the breakfasts good and served very quickly. The room was fine, and I liked having a safe. The entertainment was very good, but no sound carried through to the rooms if you were having an early night (and we were located nearby).
I enjoyed the pool and steam room. The location can't be beat, beach and shops, good restaurants very close.
What I liked the best was the location. My only criticsm is the restrictions on the times of pool and sauna use, they should be stated on the website. Also, it would be nice if a bench could be placed in a corner of the car park for smokers.

We are delighted that Vanessa C and family enjoyed their holiday with us at the Wight but are rather puzzled as to the criticism concerning "restrictions" on the times of pool and sauna use and that they should be stated on the website. With the greatest of respect we would respond as follows:
1. On the Leisure page of our 12 page website the times that the Pool is available for use are very clearly shown against the photo of the Pool - Open 7-30am - 8.30pm in summer but closes at 7.00pm in the winter months. We feel that it should be said that these times are hardly to be regarded as "restrictive" – indeed the Pool is available longer each day than most hotel pools.
2. Similarly the page also states in respect of the Sauna - Available free of charge each day from 4.30pm to 6.30pm by notifying Reception of your intent to use (please note that 30 minutes notice is required because of the heat-up period). Outside of those times guests may reserve the cabin (via Reception) for private use at a cost of £3.00 per hour (again the 30 minutes heat-up period is needed).
3. The page also states that the Jacuzzi, Solarium and Steam Room are available for use during the Pool opening hours.

We would however thank the clients for causing us to check the particular web page as, on doing so, it was noted that our web-master failed to make an alteration to same at the start of 2011 – since then the Steam Room has been available for use free of charge for the whole of the Pool opening times!

We stayed at the Wight Montrene on a short break basis in August 2011. My husband has stayed at the Wight Montrene many times when on business on the Isle of Wight and always wanted to go back for a more leisurely break.
The staff at the Wight Montrene are extremely welcoming, the hotel is spotlessly clean and the food plentiful and very good. There's a nice bar with regular evening entertainment. Our room, located on the ground floor was clean and comfortable with french doors opening on to a little terrace with rose garden. The hotel is situated in a quiet location, only a short walk from the lovely sandy beach.
A big plus for the Wight Montrene is the fact it has a car park, which a lot of the hotels don't appear to have.
I would recommend the Wight Montrene without hesitation. I wish my stay could have been longer.

We have just returned from our third visit to the Wight Montrene. This time we booked a 2 bedroom suite, which had a double room and a room with a single and bunk bed in. Perfect for a family of 5. The shower room was separate from the bathroom (with bath, toilet and sink in). This made me happy after staying in hotels before where I just get in the shower and inevitably hear someone banging on the door and yelling that they "need the loo".

I was really looking forward to the food and we were not disappointed. Our waitress was absolutely lovely and she worked the children out pretty quickly (they loved the rolls) and basically bent over backwards for us. The service, again, was quick and efficient. We managed to get in and get the children fed and leave without too much fuss. (However if you want your service to be slower, we were told to inform the waitress, so don't worry about feeling rushed.) We didn't go to the entertainment in the evenings though, as quite honestly we all needed a walk after the sheer quantity of food. I highly recommend the Aubergine and Walnut bake, which was my personal favourite dish.

My husband had his first ever treatment in the Oasis treatment room. He had the "beach feet" pedicure and his face when he came back was so funny, he loved it! I would have gone for something myself if I hadn't had a few treatments the previous weekend.

There is a swimming pool with a baby/toddler pool attached, steam room, sauna and solarium. I used the steam room and it was lovely but we also swam every day and much of the time we had the pool to ourselves.

On our first night (31 August) we walked after dinner and discovered an illuminated carnival was about to take place. We stood and watched that and the children had a lovely time.

We also visited Blackgang Chine and Robin Hill (get the saver ticket and you can go back as much as you like to both parks in a week), and the beach of course, which is only a stone's throw from the hotel.

I would particularly recommend this hotel for families with younger children, and also to the older travellers. The entertainment in the evening is brilliant for older visitors, and indeed there was a coach party staying when we were there. They were a friendly bunch, and seemed to be having a lovely time.

For younger visitors (our children are 8,7,4 now) there are all the pool areas, a toddler pool outside, a small park, a huge selection of books, a pool table, and also the children's menu is a brilliant idea. How to make them feel special: give them their own menu but they can also chose from the main menu, and once the waitress works them out they get spoilt rotten (in our case with as many rolls as they can eat).

We only stayed for 3 nights, but it felt like a proper holiday. Thanks, Wight Montrene, we will be back.

Due to last minute booking, we had a large spacious family room which included 1 double and 2 single beds, the room has all the essentials - TV, dresser, closet etc, and that was enough for the 3 of us. It was not cheap though at around 60 pounds for each of us. The bathroom lacked shampoo and body wash, and there was no lock, but in general was clean and functioned well. Staff at the reception were nice and helpful. Breakfast the next morning is not a buffet, which we would have preferred, but was definitely big enough.
