We booked for dinner, bed and breakfast and the hotel represented excellent value for money, with very friendly and helpful staff. The room was spotlessly clean, my only comment would be that the hot water temperature setting needs reducing by a few degrees as the water was far too hot to be from a standard tap. Breakfast and dinner were very good and the food plentiful and very tasty, and the bar very good value. The swimming pool was a great size for a hotel pool, all in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will be back.

We stayed in this hotel as it came recommended on trip advisor, but we wished we didn't. They charge for everything: you cant take towels from the room to the pool and you have to pay to get one. You have to put a pound coin in for the whirlpool to start and even leave 3 pounds as deposit to get table tennis equipment. Showers are terrible and go from warm to cold and in the end even burning hot. I burnt my back showering the first time and preferred taking cold showers after that not to repeat it. When we told about it to the receptionist, she just told us that can happen sometimes when the people next door flush their toilet.

Rooms are so loud that we could hear the quite and elderly couple chatting about their friends all evening, and I'm not even mentioning when they had their tv on. The music from the bar was loud and clear even our room was at the other end of the building.

For a hotel that is not on the seafront and has this type of service it is extremely overpriced (120£ per night for 2 people)!!!!

The saying is that you can please most of the people all of the time and all of the people most of the time. Unfortunately it would appear that during the one night that Helencho spent in the hotel we appear to have pleased her none of the time! Every individual has his or her own perception of value and ideas of what they want from a hotel and, with the greatest respect, the evidence appears to point to the strong possibility that this lady is somewhat out of sync with even the average TripAdvisor members evaluation – let alone the well over 1000 guests WHO RETURN TO THE HOTEL EVERY YEAR. Sadly she becomes the 7th (out of 287) TripAdvisor members to award us such a low mark (and some of those 7 have never even been inside the hotel!) whilst the huge majority of 186 have awarded us the very top mark! Possibly of interest - the hotel is full tonight with 73 guests – of whom we are proud to say that 32 have been to the hotel on at least one previous occasion!

In answer to the points raised:

Like most seaside hotels we do not provide swimming towels as they end up being taken to the beach. Our website and our reservation confirmations clearly state to bring your own – but if you forget we provide at 50p – which is what we pay to the laundry. If you really wanted to avoid that cost you could use your bedroom towels – unfortunately the smell of chlorine might well tend to overpower madam’s perfume for the rest of the day! The pool, sauna and steam room are free of charge but if you want “full speed” in the Jacuzzi (which is always warm and gently turbulated free of charge) you do indeed have to put a £1.00 in the meter – otherwise with children the motors would be running all day with nobody using it most of the time. That is also the reason for the £3.00 deposit for the table tennis bats and balls – so that they are returned when finished with in order that others can play – surely hardly a big deal – it’s not a charge, you get the money back when you return them!

In respect of the temperature change in the shower yes, as in most homes, they do tend to do so when other rooms on a corridor use facilities – but not normally to that extent. The severity however was abnormal and nothing to do with the hotel – the whole area had a temporary problem which lasted several days, during which the water pressure entering the building “pulsed”. This had been reported to Southern Water but obviously the receptionist would not have known.

Noise from the “quite (presumed quiet) and elderly couple” chatting and their TV is complained about. With respect, how did Helencho know that they were “quiet”? Could it not have been the case that the voices were actually load and the TV turned up to quite a high volume? If not then why was there no noise from the room on the other side of her room or from the one above? And the “music from the bar” was definitely NOT from the hotel’s entertainment – it possibly came from another local hotel or was in all probability connected with the Island’s Bestival, Festival Weekend.

Not only was it peak season but also as stated it was the Bestival Weekend – one of the two peak Saturdays of the whole year. Hotel prices vary from night to night and, like insurance rates, are calculated on a demand/risk basis. On the Saturday night in question there was obviously not only a very high demand but also a very high risk that by accepting a reservation for just the Saturday night the room would be empty for the Sunday night (as but very few clients want to arrive on that day). So under those conditions the price has to be high.

But just what has being on the seafront got to do with pricing? Whilst just 160m from beach and shops not only are our standards higher but also are food is of a higher quality than those hotels that are on the beach – a fact attested too not only by the professionalism of the AA Inspectorate but also by the vast majority of TripAdvisor reviewers.

We are a family of three with a young son. We have been staying at the Wight Montrene since our son was born and have always had a fantastic experience. The staff are always friendly, pleased to see us and nothing is too much trouble. They always take the time to talk to my son and remember him each year which makes his holiday even more special. The food is fantastic, the rooms are clean, the swimming pool is lovely and all in all we couldn't ask for more. We are booked again for next year - our holiday encompasses the annual scooter rally - and it is a perfect base to go to the rally as well as explore all the other treats of the Island. It is always a pleasure to see the other guests who return at the same time as us as well. We are already counting down the days until next year!

There is just no way that this can be just a two star hotel. The amenities, the food, the service - the EVERYTHING - is far and away above any such grading. Could go on but what can be said other than - it's outstanding!

Room Tip: Try it soon!

We are a family of six spreading three generations and all had a great relaxing break. All the hotel staff were fantastic from the organization of the ferry to our greeting at the front desk to the dining staff big thanks for looking after my family. Eating in the hotel, breakfast and evening meals top draw early meals for the baby in the family if required. Rooms very clean we had three separate rooms and they were all great. Bar and entertainment excellent. Very relaxed atmosphere throughout the hotel. We used the pool which is a good size.
Only problem was we had only booked for four days should have been longer.

Room Tip: Just tell the staff what you want and they will do their best to help

A very warm welcome from the reception staff as you arrive. Good value for money and the food was exceptional. A daily menu for breakfast and evening meal also available for children which is important. Nothing was too much trouble especially if you have fussy children that don't always like the menu. The young lady that waited on us for breakfast and dinner was very efficient and polite and nothing was to much trouble. I think they deserve a higher rating than a 2 star.

Havinng read the story of a con fused irish lady, confused because it appears she is unaware that Eira is one part of a lovely island and Northern Ireland the other.I stayed at this hotel over the August bank holiday at the insistance of my 12yr old daughter. She wanted to return because she had such a great time on a previous visit.this was also my finding not only was the food superb, the helpfulness of all the staff, the LES DAWSON tribute by Steve Parks but the general feel of the hotel. On yhat babk holiday was the islands famous scooter rally as the hotel is away from yhe main road the guest did not have to listen to the sound of swarm of"bees"passing by only the delight of silence. So thankyou Montrene once again foe providing a much welcmed break for mk daughter and myself
