Reading other reviews I see that the food is only mentioned for its high quality and generous quantities. I am not going to bore folk with any more details other than this is a very accurate description and you need to experience this for yourselves. The pool, sauna, steam room, solarium, games room, fitness area and separate full size snooker room take care of the vagaries of the English weather so every day plenty to do or just relax and unwind. Rooms are very comfortable and from my last visit there has been extensive high quality renovation works carried out. New carpeting throughout and what I have been told LED lighting to all the ground floor public areas, very effective at night and very green. New entertainment with a Jazz and Blues night and another night a rare Hammond organ (X66) is the focal point for organ aficionados on Mondays where local professionals and guests are invited to play this rather impressive instrument. I am amazed they are still only a 2* hotel, I have stayed in many 3 and 4* offering a lot less and with inferior service to boot.

This is my first trip advisor post and generally i am too lazy to post, but i had to give my opinion on this hotel.
Firstly we won a weekend here in a race for life raffle. The owner donated the prize and we were the lucky ones. Thank you.
Really this hotel is wonderful and we loved it. Me, my wife and 2 young children stayed for 2 nights. The hotel is well positioned - 150 yards form the beach - but it was super quiet, easy parking and easy to find.
The room was clean and spacious, the facilities were great, the pool was warm and clean, there was a mini playground for the kids. The food was fantastic, tasty and wholesome, but it was really the team there who made it. Nothing was too much trouble - our one year old made quite a mess, but never a rolled eye or cross word, just absolute patience and kindness. We left cups and bibs to be cleaned after meals and again, no problems at all. The bar staff welcomed us as regulars from the first time we went to the bar.
We will definitely be going back, thanks once again to you all.

Room Tip: There is a family 4 poster room with a separate area room for 2 children

We travel over every year for a Classic Car show at Newport and Ryde and our group seems to be getting bigger every year, fourteen adults and four dogs this year!!!!
It was lovely to see familiar faces working at the Hotel, a good sign when the staff don't change! and they always make our stay so wonderful. Lovely clean rooms, great food that leaves us all stuffed and service always with a smile. They even catered for my recently diagnosed Coeliac husband (even if he tried to eat food he shouldn't!)
It's beginning to feel like a second home and we look forward to coming back every year, in fact once the dates are confirmed for the shows next year I will be booking my room!
Thank you every one at the Wight for such a superb stay! Sue & Co xxx

We recently spent one night at the Wight Montrene Hotel. The staff were very friendly and eager to please and the service was great.

Our room was nice although the bathroom did smell strongly of cigarette smoke. The hotel is strictly non-smoking so I reported it to reception and we were happy to stay in the room as we had our 2 dogs with us. Hopefully this is not an issue for future guests. The walls of the rooms are quite thin so noise does travel.

The location is excellent with a very short walk to the seafront. We also had no issues finding the hotel.

The dinner was great value, I just don't feel like it was presented to it's potential. It's a 5 course meal for cheap-cheap, and was as follows:

Starter: This really let down the meal and we would have been left with a much better impression if it had just been left off the menu.
- Ox-tail soup. My husband said it tasted like tinned soup and he was disappointed.
- Fruit salad type thing. I had this for a starter but had to quickly stop eating when I realised the fruit was tinned as I am allergic to some preservatives (we didn't inform the staff of this as my exact allergy is still unknown, but tinned fruit has triggered an anaphylactic reaction previously)

Entree: Goats cheese type starter. Absolutely delicious!! Serve this as the starter and forget about entrees. Hubby and I both loved it.

Mains: I had a delicious chicken dish with yummy sauce.

Dessert: Once again, very good!

Cheese board: We skipped this as we had had more than enough food.

Breakfast:
Food was disappointing. I did not like the sausages and I had expected the eggs to be cooked to order.

We are delighted that Kim R enjoyed her single night stay at the Wight Montrene but think it likely that several of her, thankfully minor, criticisms were due to the shortness of her stay.

The hotel is indeed completely non-smoking and we are grateful for her understanding in respect of the smell of smoke in her bathroom. The problem is that we (and probably every other hotel) occasionally accommodates a client who breaks the rule – then vacates in the morning leaving the incoming resident to suffer the vile smell (I speak as an ex heavy smoker who gave up ten years ago and has only since then realised quite how revolting I (let alone my house and it’s furnishings) smelt to non-smokers!) When possible we take the effected room out of use for a few days – but when the hotel is full there is not a lot that can be done.

Kim R was only with us for one night and from the syntax of her report it is probably that she does not realise that the Dinner menu from which she chose changes every night and each nightly menu features completely different dishes. Additionally we cater for a wide range of likes and sizes of appetite – and many clients would not be keen on being robbed of their nightly first course – which each day of the week offers a different soup (and contrary to her husband’s thought the oxtail soup definitely did NOT come out of a tin) a fruit based dish (that night it was Florida Cocktail but other nights feature such items as melon, poached pear with walnuts, watercress and balsamic dressing, etc. or a choice of fruit juices if neither of the other two choices appeal. Our findings are that our soups are very popular – even in hot weather around 40% of diners opt for same (which tends to also vouch for their quality as many repeat their soup order night after night. Indeed one of our soups (Broccoli, Cauliflower and Stilton) was recently given a somewhat surprising accolade my one lady who sent a message out to the kitchen requesting another bowl and saying that it was “positively ORGASMIC”!

What is found both distressing and difficult to understand is however her disappointment with our Breakfast. Our menu, which is displayed on our website and features just about every choice that can be imagined, is of the very finest ingredients and limitless in quantity. Taste is however a personal matter and possibly our award winning and locally made pure meat sausages do not with some clients compare with their favorite supermarket brand. Meanwhile it is stressed that our eggs are ALMOST cooked to order – but when the hotel is busy we avoid clients being kept waiting for service by cooking just ahead of demand – but the time from a fried egg coming out of the pan to arriving at the table is never more than 2 minutes. The only “giveaway” that the waitress did not have to wait for the eggs to be cooked was the speed of service – but I defy anyone, from Gordon Ramsey to Jamie Oliver, to tell the difference whether from temperature, texture, flavour or appearance!.

We greatly hope that Kim R will return to the hotel in the not too distant future – but next time staying long enough to achieve a more balanced view of what we have to offer.

Me and my daughter recently went to the Wight Montrene Hotel and had one of the best trips ever. We stayed in this hotel as it came up as recommended on trip advisor and we're both extremely happy that this was our choice. The staff are always 100% enthusiastic and always happy to see and help us. The room was spotlessly clean and the cleanliness of the hotel altogether were immaculate. The food is delicious and you honestly feel like royalty, extremely good value. The swimming pool was a brilliant size, not too small or crowded. This has honestly got to be one of the best hotel's I have ever stayed in. I was able to lay in my room in complete silence and relax myself down completely. The entertainment was brilliant, never a boring moment throughout the shows! Will defiantly be coming here again next year :-)

We booked for dinner, bed and breakfast and the hotel represented excellent value for money, with very friendly and helpful staff. The room was spotlessly clean, my only comment would be that the hot water temperature setting needs reducing by a few degrees as the water was far too hot to be from a standard tap. Breakfast and dinner were very good and the food plentiful and very tasty, and the bar very good value. The swimming pool was a great size for a hotel pool, all in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will be back.
