“Lovely place!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 August 2014 via mobile

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 10 nights in august we had a great time and the room was extremely comfortable! The breakfasts were great always plenty to eat and very tasty. The swimming pool and games room were great fun, we enjoyed having a quiet drink in the bar in the evenings I don't think the entertainment was too loud at all we were also above the bar area (I slept better than ever!) the bar man was a lovely man and made our evening even more pleasant! Overall I would recommend to all my friends and family again and again!! Thank you for a great holiday!

Family Room 201 Bed and Breakfast. This is our second stay at the Wight Montrene Hotel with my 3 boys. Staff was very friendly. Breakfast was excellent and my boys loved the swimming pool, hope to see you again next year!

The staff at this hotel are really helpful and the rooms are always clean, however some the shower room in one of our rooms was so small if you were taller than 5ft 5 you would not fit!!

You could also hear the people in the rooms above and next door which was annoying!
The hotel food was really good and the staff made you feel very welcome.

My husband and I stayed with our two children (aged 10 and 13) in mid-August 2014. Our room was very spacious and clean and suited our family perfectly. The food was absolutely fantastic and we found all the restaurant staff so friendly and helpful. The children loved the swimming pool which they used every day and they also really enjoyed playing table tennis. It was lovely that the beach was just a two minute walk away. Overall the hotel represented excellent value in friendly relaxed surroundings.

What can ruin a holiday but lack of sleep.Rather than reminisce of sleepless nights in the halls of residence in your uni days you can actually experience this with your children here! I did so for three nights but not out of choice.Sunday was obviously a day of rest!Whoever thought it practical to put a family room above the entertainment room was not of sound mind. We were not moved and not even compensated. The owner would not apologise.Yet we had the largest family room at a hefty price but no caution when we booked. Be aware of room 207 unless you plan to have a party in it! Shame as the facilities were good and the staff were professional but friendly.Chrissy in reception and Louise (who was a real asset to this hotel) in the restaurant were extremely helpful and professional. The interior was dated but could not expect too much for 2 star AA. Sad to say will not be staying here or recommending it!

Room Tip: Families keep away from Room 207. Although its large and it is the most expensive family room in the...

wightmontrene, Owner at The Wight, responded to this review, 25 August 2014
We are sorry to have it confirmed that Yas B did not enjoy her stay with us but this comes at no great shock – her initial comment to the duty receptionist was to the effect that she was noting that the hotel’s entertainment had kept her awake for her TripAdviser Review. Additionally her further remark (to a different receptionist on check-out) was that she felt that at the very least she should have been given a free bottle of wine! Such remarks do nothing to promote good relationships with an hotel, indeed they rather denote that this is the sort of client and outlook where any hotel would prefer not to encourage anything in the way of a repeat visit!

Let’s first put things in perspective. The client’s room, 207, is neither the largest nor is it the most expensive room in the hotel. We have 5 rooms that are larger, 4 of which are more expensive. In the immediate area of 207 (and therefore suffering from a similar degree of “disturbance”) there are 3 of those larger rooms, plus 1 the same size and 2 Treble rooms. So including 207 between them those rooms can (and often do during school holidays) accommodate 15 children plus their associated adults .

So, a question to the readers of this management response: If it was felt that any great degree of “disturbance” was suffered by the many other families accommodated throughout the year in those rooms (or if even the incidence of even a passing “mention” let alone “complaint” from those many families rate was anything but a rarity) – then would we be quite so forthcoming as to make public that all those other rooms suffered from the same problem? Obviously not - that the problem seems to be singular to the one client speaks for itself.

Further perspective. The client’s visit was at the peak of the season with the hotel fully booked. Having checked our records it needs to be pointed out that during the client’s stay the hotel was accommodating an average of 98 clients per night – an average of 28 of those being children of an age range from a few months to 17 years. YET NOT ONE SIMILAR EVEN “COMMENT” HAS BEEN RECEIVED DURING THIS WHOLE SUMMER SEASON!

In conclusion, far from the vision of the sleepless nights conjured up by the “No sleep here – disappointed” title of the review, the point needs to be made that the entertainment in the hotel always ends by 11.30pm (at the very latest) and that this is a holiday hotel in a holiday town where most clients, even those with children, come to enjoy themselves as opposed to getting some early nights! However, Yas B can console herself that, whilst not getting an apology (actually I do not think that I was ever asked for one and cannot even remember meeting the lady during her stay) nor any com-pen-sa-shun, she has made her stance as only the 16th person out of 499 to award the hotel with a Terrible. Alternatively of course, as of that 499 some 113 have awarded Very Good and 327 Excellent, then it just might be construed that her own requirements, values and judgments tend towards being very far from mainstream.

Consistently good service. Good competitive price. Great facilities for Children. Good Food and very reasonable wine prices. So convenient for the beach and generally getting around the island. Will definitely be staying again at this hotel
