“Not so good experience and hotel is overpriced for what it is”
Reviewed 15 August 2010

I was told we will be in a small room -- but they didnt mention it was actually TINY with a TINY bathroom. Its same price as the other normal rooms which totally dosent make sense. When I addressed this to the management, I was told that they are already not charging us the 'weekend surcharge of £24 per person' which was never mentioned to us ever anyway. So all in all, no addressal of a guest having a not so good time at the hotel! Its good that there is a pool, steam and sauna.. but you have to pay for use of sauna and steam apart from a couple of hours a day. Too much noise also comes from other rooms that dosent let you sleep very well also.. Overall very average....

I stayed at the hotel with my wife and 3 children (6 year old and 4 year old twins).

The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Carla, a Waitress in the restaurant, was particularly very helpful and communicated well with my children.

The food in the restaurant was great and there was a very good selection for both adults and children.

The facilities at the hotel were good, including the games room and swimming pool.

The bar was a good size but the evening entertainment was a bit hit and miss.

We were pleasantly surprised at how big, clean and comfortable our room was but the shower was not very powerful.

The location of the hotel was ideal as it was only a few minutes walk to the beach and pier and was situated in grounds away from the road.

We plan to visit the Isle of Wight next year and plan to stay at the Wight Montrene again.

WE were lucky enough to stay here the1st week in July and from the moment we arrived to such a warm welcome from Jude at reception we knew our stay was going to be great. Cannot fault the service, accomodation and general ambience in any way. Food was excellent with varied choice and very plentiful both at breakfast and dinner.Service from Alec at the bar was 1st class--likewise Carla our lovely waitress. The position of the hotel is very desirable--just a few minutes walk from local shops, cafes and sea front. All in all a great place to stay. We have been back a month now and not a day has passed when we haven't said "Wish we were back in room 128 !! " We will return for sure; hopefully very soon !!

Comfortable hotel with a wide range of amenities to suit all age groups. Food was very good value and wine was very reasonably priced. The service was efficient and friendly. The hotel is well run and is undergoing a phased refurbishment. The hotel is a 5 min walk from the esplanade and sandy beach. Ideal for grandparents with young grandchildren.

Nice clean hotel with friendly staff and good service. Wide choice at breakfast and portions up to giant size if desired.
Minor issue was with the shower, which was not very strong and had temperature fluctuations.
Great location for beach, high street and seafront pubs and restaurants.
We enjoyed our trip and would go back.

We stayed at the hotel for a week from sat 22nd-sat 29th May. We are a young couple that also stayed in what others have called the "attic" room.
Firstly the location of the hotel is excellent, if you want the beach you are literally 5 mins away from it. The shops are also a couple of mins away.
The room we stayed in was also of a high standard. it was a room that had been recently refurbished with a modern bathroom and was always kept clean by the staff. The book which explained all the facilities about the hotel was really useful that also had the times of when the sauna, jacuzzi and pool was open etc as well as on the website. The swimming pool was of a good size and was nice to relax in after a busy day exploring the island.
The breakfast and evening meals were excellent, you could have as little or as much as you wanted. Staff were very friendly, helpful, always made you feel welcome but we already knew this as this is the 2nd year in a row we stayed here. Don't know why it has only been given a two star rating when it deserves at least three stars or more.
We look forward to booking our holiday again next year.

After having read some of the reviews, I just didn't know what to expect - but we were very pleasantly surprised. All the staff were so friendly, especially the lovely lady who welcomed us at reception. Bar staff, cleaning staff and waitressing staff were also great.

Yes, the room was small but what is a hotel room for, but to sleep and get changed? So it was perfectly adequate for us. Beds were comfortable and the only reason I state sleep quality as slightly less was the very unthoughtful family above us who thought it was OK to stomp about at all hours having no regard for anyone else below them! Yes, the room was a bit dated with some of the furniture - but we still had plenty of storage space and that was what mattered to us.

The facilities in the hotel were fine - the children loved the pool and the outside play area. We didn't get to use it much as the weather was so fantastic but it was great to have there on the very rainy day we did have.

The food was fantastic, starting the day off with such a great breakfast and then having such a varied choice at night. It certainly took away the worries about finding somewhere decent to eat. As for the "pudding club" .... I was in heaven!

After such a good meal, we sat in the bar and awaited each nights entertainment with anticipation - but maybe for the wrong reasons? It certainly is dated and we had no doubt that the same material had been used for years - but hey, we were on holiday so who cares?

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and have nothing to complain about. But a word of warning to the person who replies on any negative feedback thats given on this website. Why be so nasty when you reply? Take the criticism on the chin and acccept that you can't please everyone - as someone else has commented, there's a real "Basil Fawlty" in your replies which is very offputting. And to basically state "we know who you are" is just terrible. Be proud of the positive comments you get and be constructive with the negatives.
