“Feeling at home...”
Reviewed 20 October 2013

From the moment we arrived at the B&B we felt at home. The bedroom was very spacious and luxurious. Diner, prepared by Eileen, was restaurant-class and better even. Oliver showed us a nice diversion to the Cateran Trail which made the hike an even greater experience. The pick-up/drop-off service is appreciated very much.

spent 2 nights here 29th and 30th september during our cateran trail walk. Have stayed in many bed and breakfast accomodations but this beats them all by far. The welcome we received was second to none and the standard of accomodation was first class. Breakfasts and evening meal we had were excellent. Thanks Eileen and Oliver for all your help. Plan to be back ! Mags and Sandra

Our stay was one we've been waiting for - a perfect hideaway for a relaxing weekend. It was so welcoming and comfortable - and the breakfast was memorable! the best porridge for me and a delicious full Scottish for him. Such beautiful surroundings too - endless opportunities for walking.
We'll be back!

When, in Feb 2013, we were invited to a wedding weekend at nearby Forter Castle, I started looking for B&B accommodation for a family of four. One establishment quoted more than £650 for 3 nights so I felt lucky to come across West Freuchies on the internet and thereby save £300. E-mail communication was detailed and helpful, with Eileen recommending local cab firms and providing directions etc. After booking, I read the reviews on here and looked forward to our stay more than ever. On arrival, we were greeted with a delicious home-made cake and tea. We were allocated the family suite comprising two rooms (a double for my husband and me and a twin for our teenage daughters) with a bathroom between us. My brother and sister-in-law stayed at the same time in an upstairs double room. Eileen and Oliver were so thoughtful that they didn't take any bookings for the second upstairs room during our stay so as not to spoil the family feeling for us. There is a guests' lounge which is very comfortable and overlooks the garden, another joy to us was being able to watch the wild birds, hens and even a red squirrel. The breakfasts were ample and tasty. I recommend the home-made fruit compote, freshly-baked bread and preserves and the locally smoked haddock.
The house was immaculate. Eileen showed us the self-catering Mill adjoining the house which is also of the same standard.
This was truly one of, if not THE best B&B we have ever stayed at. We felt as if we were staying with friends and will certainly try to come back and stay again in the future. Thank you Eileen and Oliver for helping to make our weekend so memorable.

Had a wonderful stay at West Freuchies recently. Oliver and Eileen are lovely genuine people and very welcoming and helpful. Home made delicious cake and tea on our arrival and excellent breakfasts. Very clean, comfy beds . Real 5 * accommodation but not 5* prices. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: The rooms at the back have lovely views.

We stayed at West Freuchies during the cateran trail walk for 3 nights and could not speak more positively about this BnB! While the actual place was already spotlessly clean and comfortable, Eileen and Oliver's hospitality was what set WF apart from the rest. After an another exhausting day of hiking, Eileen picked us up and on arrival, brought us some tea and homemade cake, dried our boots and showed us around the house. We were lucky enough to be the only ones staying so pretty much had the entire place to ourselves for 2 days! The room was large and spacious and there was a communal area with a tv and a games cupboard. The breakfast everyday is excellent and includes homemade breads and jams/compotes as well as full scottish breakfast, and the lunch packs were really great to have too. Eileen's cooking is delicious especially her puddings!! On the days we weren't able to eat there they booked us dinner at the nearby hotel and dropped us off. Oliver provided us with lots of walking advice and printed maps and alternative routes which was useful for the trail. Although this BnB is not directly on the cateran trail route, E & O went out of their way to make it convenient for us, and it was worth it to stay there as it was be the best accommodation of the whole trip!! Thank you for showing us such a lovely time and giving us such a great impression of Scotland!
