We purchased a voucher for our stay at this lovely hotel. Picturesque setting, beautifully furnished, very comfortable and excellent staff & service (until we checked out). We had a very enjoyable stay - superb food & service at dinner and breakfast within the restaurant. Our stay was flawless with the exception of one tiny issue, which became worse once we followed up by email.
On arrival, we noticed that there were no in room tea and coffee facilities - not a big deal, but we were surprised given the high quality standard of the remainder of the hotel. On reading the hotel information booklet, however, we saw that we could order tea/coffee to our room for the morning, which we duly did. There was no mention of any charge for this.
Our tea arrived as ordered and we continued to have a lovely breakfast prior to checkout. On receiving our final bill at checkout, I was surprised to see that we had been charged for our early morning tea - £8. I mentioned this to the lady at reception and got little response so grudgingly paid the bill in full.
Thinking further about this, I followed up with an email to the hotel detailing the above and very quickly received the following response:
"Everything included in this 50% discount deal is detailed in the offer provided. Hotels that offer free tea and coffee have this factored into their room price. Sadly nothing is free"
So there you have it - a lovely stay in what really is a 5* hotel with (in my view) zero star handling of a tiny complaint from a guest - and all for £8. We won't be back and sadly would not recommend this hotel to others - principally because of the way in which our tiny complaint was handled.
