“Friendly owners”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 September 2011

The very friendly owners save this very down at heel hotel.
Our room was disappointing with a stale smelling bathroom and soft furnishings which were very old, however I think the other rooms may have been refurbished recently and we were unlucky.
Tony and Johnny were very friendly and hard working chaps and I wish them good luck.

We stayed there as a couple because we heard the hotel provides excellent food but all we got was basic pub meals for a very high price! Steaks started at £18.90. Our local steak house does them on Fridays for £9.99. The shower was too cold to use, the bedrooms needed done up, were too small as well. The drive was overgrown with weeds. What we did like was the friendly staff & service which was excellent.

Stayed here for one night after a heavy day on the slopes... a few miles further to drive than the array of hotels in aviemore but definitely worth the 10 minute journey.
The proprietors were very friendly and welcoming, and the place had a very cosy and inviting appeal. Its not in any way modern or flashy, the rooms are basic but adequate and warm.
Food was excellent. We ordered the most expesive thing on the menu but were not disappointed at all.... Breakfast was included in the price of the room and it was spot on.
Free wifi was advertised but didnt seem to be available - no major problem really and not worth causing a fuss about.
We booked through laterooms and were expecting to pay on arrival as is the norm however payment was taken on booking which was a bit of a surprise. Not an issue just be aware this may happen.
On the whole we were really pleased and would stay here again

Traveled there in a last minute spontaneous whim to have a Scottish New Years, but accidentally made an incorrect booking through hotelbookings.com. When the hotel was contacted they very kindly were able to make arrangements for us after all. Rooms were very clean and there was plenty of space in the family room for all of us. Staff was friendly and the food was great! The best bit was the Guiness bubbler, totally cool. My only problem was that the coffee/tea in the morning had to be requested but the croissants were out-of-this-world. Had a lovely stay overall and was fairly close to the ski resort without having to be too much in the traffic of Avemore.

The hotel was tired. The information about the menu was laughable. Wines from around the world meant a Chardonnay and a Red Vin du payes. The owner was rude and his cooking was well below par. There were no lights left on on the landing at night and the owner's attitude to his guests was not what one would expect. We stayed at several other hotels and pubs on our recent trip to Scotland all of which were considerably better and in some cases cheaper than the Ossian.

We stayed in Aviemore, or should we say Kincraig 5miles outside Aviemore, in the Ossian Hotel. We found the staff to be friendly and the accommodation to be exactly as advertised. The best part of the stay for us was the expert advice of the local area we received from Tony the owner, his knowlege of activities in the area really helped us get the most of our holiday. Will definately go back.
