“Wouldn't stay again.”
Reviewed 13 July 2014 via mobile

Sadly not the best night I've ever had in an hotel. There was dust everywhere, the bathroom really wasn't clean, there was a mouldy shower curtain and the toilet could've done with some bleach. But I could've forgiven all that if the bed had been comfortable, but it was like sleeping on a brick. I got maybe an hour's sleep at best. It wasn't a king size as advertised it was two single beds pushed together. It was truly awful. The next morning we sat for a while waiting for breakfast and eventually I had to go out a fire exit door as the person in charge had gone for a cigarette. Breakfast is only from 8:30-9:30 would it not have been possible to cope without a fag for an hour so that your guests don't have to search for you and more importantly that you as the guest don't have to smell cigarette smoke whilst trying to order and eat your breakfast. Not cool. Will not be staying here again.

We had booked in to the Scott house hotel for 2 nights bed and breakfast as we were attending a local wedding. As it was a special weekend for my partner and I, I decides to book the 'King Sized room with jacuzzi bath" I forget what number it was. We checked in and went up to our room. I must say our first impressions were very disappointing.

For a start, the picture of the bedroom and the bathroom were both fish eye 360 panoramas. They were put on the web site with nothing to inform you of this, so it was immediately misleading and much smaller than we were expecting. The furniture was covered in water rings and was extremely shabby. The carpet was worn and tatty.

As well as this the "King-sized bed" we had booked for a bit of luxury was in fact 2 grubby single beds roughly shoved together. When we lay on them they slid apart as the sheet wouldn't even stretch to hold them together.

Outside of the bathroom the wallpaper was mouldy and coming away from the ceiling. In the bathroom, the bath panel was broken as was the shower.

We went downstairs to ask for a room change as we were unhappy. The manager seemed very surprised by this and was allegedly unaware of the faults. There were no other rooms available and so we said we would stay but were not prepared to pay full price. We were told that this wasn't an option. At this point, the manager was very helpful and did call around some other local establishments to find us a wonderful local B and B. I would not recommend this hotel at all unless it undergoes a major upgrade!

I stayed for a night in room 6 and can honestly say I have never stayed in a room so dirty and old. Shower head was disgusting, there was no plug in the sink, mould on the bath tub, wall paper peeling of and the window in the bedroom was revolting.

Have never stayed overnight here - but would assume from the cleanliness of all the other public rooms it would be good. The staff work hard and make you welcome. We enjoyed the Sunday lunch ( carvery buffet) - with an attentive chef who keeps things well stocked up - a most enjoyable lunch was enjoyed by us all. Keep up the good work - dont change anything - !

There's nothing wrong with this hotel but nothing that makes it stand out either.

The room was an excellent size and the ensuite had a gorgeous deep bath. When we arrived we thought the room smelt vaguely of smoke, we realised this was because the back door fire door (downstairs) was left open for smokers and it clearly drifted up from there. The room was warm and unfortunately the windows have been painted shut. The bed was sizeable and we slept very well as the location is good and quiet.

We didn't realise but the restaurant doesn't do food on a Sunday night, however the manager/owner did give us a couple of good recommendations locally and we had a good meal out - we might have like to know this in advance though.

Posted on behalf of my partner who doesnt use tripadvisor.

Last week I was travelling back from Lossiemouth and got caught up in several hours of traffic - snowgates were closed due to weather and a bad accident, and wasnt going anywhere fast. I googled quickly and found The Scot House Hotel - called them and the manager confirmed they had a room available. As luck would have it i was less than 10 minutes away and was glad to get their after a long day of going nowhere. The Manager (or owner?) was very welcoming, gave me one of their large double rooms - and an excellent rate. By this time i really just wanted a meal, a bath, and my bed - Food was very good, plenty of hot water for my bath, and an excellent nights sleep in a very comfortable bed. I wanted away early in the morning and the staff could not have been more helpful, opening up restaurant early for me so i could at least get some coffee and toast etc so i could be on my way. Service was outstanding, it makes such a difference when people in the hospitality industry are truly hospitable! If i am back in the area i would not hesitate to stay here again.
